I should be getting one more package today with all the gaskets seals and bolts I need to finish!

When I got the motor back from the machine shop I forgot to take pics oopsies, I had already clearanced and installed the crank before I decided I should probably take some pics lol.

Seems like a lot of the parts ie:seals and bolts are stuff you could have reused... Are you building a seperate motor to just drop in real fast? If so... Good Planning [up]

okswerve16
02-04-2012, 12:57 PM
Yeah this is a separate motor which is why I have to buy all the gaskets and bolts I could have reused.

Guess i should post in here since just got my head back from the machine shop for a valve job for +1mm ferrea valves! I have the bentley manual but for some reason cant find where it shows the proper application for the sealant part# D154103A1 and the torque for the 23 bolts holding the girdle or the tightening sequence? Matter of fact I cant find the proper method of putting on the tensioner and chain the cam bolt and polygon bolt too grrr, I think they left it out in my a4 bentley which is why I even bought it!!!!?

bman005
02-04-2012, 03:19 PM
What do you mean when you say girdle? Are you talking about the bearing bracket for ontop of the cams? Is your sealant the green stuff? Thats seals the bearing bracket. I'll do my best to get the info from ELSA for you

okswerve16
02-04-2012, 03:29 PM
http://www.jimellisvwparts.com/images/parts/VW/fullsize/649103540.jpg

The sealant is 4 and the girdle holds the cam and is between the valve cover and head, number 3 is the bolts holding down the girdle there are 23.

bman005
02-04-2012, 03:38 PM
When you have the bearing bracket off you will see a grooves on the under side. Put the sealant in there. The bolts are torque to yield so you should have new ones. The torque spec is 8Nm plus an additional 90 degrees. Here is the sequence copied out of ELSA

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h413/bman005/CamLadder.png

Hope this helps[wrench]

Haha no for the amount of time and money I put/putting into this I really want a custom dyno tune. It down to either maestro and than having it fine tuned on the dyno or its going up to EPL since they are only 40 mins from me and I already talked to them about a month ago when I dropped of the engine at the machine shop so it might be time to give them another call and see what we can get going.

jmarch1122

Drilled holes in the windage tray because the arp mains are taller then the oem bolts

http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/ad126/okswerve16/Photo2-4-12101558PM.jpg

Than put the balance shaft assembly on with the tensioner compressed to allow the chain to go on

Cover on and how I left it

oh yeah and I forgot to take pics but I deleted the balance shafts as well but all I did was cut the gear off with a cut off disc on my dremel then hammered it out, then made sure I cleaned it out real well to get all the metal shaving debris

what's the benefit of deleting that gear?

okswerve16
02-04-2012, 11:15 PM
what's the benefit of deleting that gear?

It stops the balance shafts from spinning which basically removes a point of failure since at high and sustained high RPMs (higher than stock) they could cause the chain to break

DRAKLORE
02-05-2012, 12:11 AM
The added negative effect being the engine vibrates like fuck.

You shoul have given it to slim, he wants to put a shaft back in his

Lensch09
02-05-2012, 12:13 AM
+ it frees up rotational mass = more horsepower. It does have some downsides though too (obviously, otherwise Audi wouldn't have installed them in the first place)

02-05-2012, 05:40 AM
From what I know as long as the motor is balanced then it wont be too bad as far as vibrations go don't get me wrong there will be a bit but thatall depends on the person... Also from what ive been told is that these motors ran fine for over 12 years without the BS... The only real difference is that the crank gear is usually circular but ours is oval....

I'll be deleting mine as well as the whole oil assembly and going with the 1.8t oil pump which also gives me an extra 2 qts of oil capacity.

P.S. That asshole comment from Drake is for me as he is mad that I was right in some info and he went crying off saying he was leaving for a while but only lasted 2 minutes when no one came running asking him to stay so he came back!

DRAKLORE
02-05-2012, 06:52 AM
[facepalm]

Either way no matter how balanced the motor is it will not eliminate the vibration, as the high frequency vibrations have nothing to do with how balanced your components are.

Jeff- you don't need to start something in every thread.
I was supposed to be deploying but it got postponed... And yeah your attitude is driving me away from this place!

okswerve16
02-05-2012, 07:28 AM
There is an inherent second order vibration to all inline four cylinder engines that you will not get rid of due to balancing of the crankshaft and rotatating assembly, the way to counteract that is the weights spinning at TWICE the rpm of the motor. Now idk about you guys but I plan to rev my engine above the stock limiter and at 8000 rpm these balance shafts will be spinning at 16000! Def not a good idea to me, so I deleted them and got my rotating asembly balanced as well to reduce the vibration as much as possible. True it will be impossible to get it completely smooth, but it should be any other 4 cylinder that does not have balance shafts since the rotating assembly is balanced for example all 1.8t motors do not have balance shafts

DRAKLORE
02-05-2012, 07:37 AM
Yeah it is mixed with how bad it is, as it's been stated some 4 cylinder motors don't even have BS. (or their threads! Ba Dum Dum lol)

I think you should be ok, especially if you already are aware there may be a vibration present. I have not personally felt it but slim is wanting to put his back in :-/

Hopefully this will be the route I go with Vast. They have a block they will build alongside their 2.0tfsi wagon Sasquatch project. Then it's a matter
Of shipping! (FKn stoked!)
I think this is one of the more thought out builds, the project section is dead from stalled or delayed projects.
you seem to have a bit of knowledge building motors, what other projects have you embarked on?

okswerve16
02-06-2012, 10:38 AM
So I have a few more parts I need to buy to finish putting the engine together, I need to get a crank bolt I have not decided on either OEM or ARP, I need all the oil pan bolts gotta find how many and the part number for those, also need to source the two exhaust bracket/flange that the turbo manifold wedges into, and of course buy a clutch lol. ALso considering getting the IE dowel pin kit since I totally forgot to ask my machine shop do dowel pin the crank gear while it was there [headbang]

Also I need some audi/vw specific tools to time the head specifically t10252 tool that holds the cams together, I think thats the only one I really need I can probably get a generic cam puller, and use a large socket for the cam/crank seal instead of the audi/vw specific tools. If anybody has done this before and knows of any other tools I need or would recomend let me know!

okswerve16
02-06-2012, 08:57 PM
I went ahead and ordered the dowel pin kit and arp crank bolt from IE, I am paranoid about shearing the crank keyway especially after seeing what happened to slim! So the more the better. Hopefully it gets to me by the weekend so I can do a write up on how to install that stuff along with the crank seal. Bumping this up also to see if I can get the t10252 tool to time the cams so I can get the head ready and than do a writeup on that as well!

I got monday and tuesday off for presidents day weekend so when I can take the trip back home and hopefullyyyyyyy finish in time!!!

Of course, The motor is essentially finished an now that I ordered the clutch I have everything I need to drop in the motor minus, intake and test pipe that I have to fab up while its in the car. I just need to find the time to do that swap! And it is still a litte cold outside lol maybe wait a few weeks

The Stern mounts vibrate like crazy. I just removed mine and had the 034 SD ones installed. All I can say is night and day.

Which mounts did you have and did you have the stern transmission as well?

I had the stern street density and I tried to have the stern trans mount put on but it just wouldn't fit properly. I ended up sticking with the oem mount but eventually I will go with the 034 trans mount. The stern motor mounts vibrate real bad though dude, I'm not the first person to swap the sterns for the 034's.

hmmm i hope i dont run into any installation problems, i got the soft mounts but they are still considerably stiffer than stock so i am expecting vibrations. The vibrations would only bother me if it caused rattling that I couldnt somehow fix lol

On another note I got to wait 4 weeks for my clutch [=(]

Tell me about it, really slows down the progress since I am basically done with the motor and just need to swap it in now. Apparently their flywheel machine shop is slammed and they are completely out of stock for b7 2.0tfsi flywheels for the fx850, there is pretty much nothing I can do. Mike has been great though and offered me many options and has been talkin to CM to get them to work on it ASAP but I am pretty deadset on a twin disc, and the fx850 is the most suited to my style of driving as opposed to the 600 and 700 series.

well to update this I bought a buncha random parts I need to finish up the engine, bolts/studs some gaskets for the turbo rest of the a/n lines for oil/coolant. I am hoping that all this stuff comes in by the weekend so I can throw the turbo on and start mocking up the cold side. I will have a buncha time though since I am waiting on my clutch!

Also piecing together a direct-port meth kit, I placed an order for the new aquamist hfs-4 with a 2 gallon howerton engineering tank. Its gunna be sick!!!! I am talking with richard to get the most out of his amazing system. So excited for this, unfortunately I am officially broke but now I have 4 weeks to save up for the tune and a few other remaining things haha.

So I think I finally bought most of the remaining pieces to get this thing running, got a bunch more various bolts and most importantly ATP MAF housing, finishing piecing together the aquamist kit, got some ARP flywheel bolts as well for when the clutch shows up. Got an adapter to run an oil pressure gauge, pretty much all that I need to buy is a fuel pump to drop in the basket still debating between a bosch 044 and the new walbro 400lph. Hopefully the parts I ordered show up this weekend so I can finish the long block and mount the turbo so I can start mocking up the intake and what not. If it wasnt for waiting on CM for the clutch this would be done in 1 week!!!!! GRRRRRR

Instead of the Walboro pump look into the aeromotive stealth pump as it flows 340lph as it also flows more with less voltage than than the others..

I think your mixing up the walbro400lph with the old walbro255, the walbro400lph is the highest flowing intank pump on the market right now

Another order from GAP still hasnt come in yet I was hoping it would have been here so I could put the t-belt on and than mount the turbo and what not oh well....I didnt have much else I can do I finished torquing the head studs and put on a the knock crank and cam sesnors. Besides that just the turbo studs and anything else I could.
Still waiting on the most impartant shipment my clutch!!!!!

Anyways heres some pics of the manifold I am thinking about upgrading to RAI tubular manifold since I am doing a serious build I dont think the log manifold will cut it so if anyone wants to start piecing together a BT kit this would be a good start I have oil/coolant lines for it as well [wrench]

Just placed my order for RAI tubular manifold and testpipe to mate up with an aftermarket exhaust. Also EPL just got my ecu in today so hopefully they will be able to get a base tune written up for me by the time I need to start this! Hopefully all remaining parts arrive by april 6 That is when I plan on putting in the motor. Last weekend I pulled the stock motor and sent it down to VA for glisoar didnt take many pics but it came out pretty smoothly. Still waiting on the clutch!!!! But now I got to wait for the new manifold and ecu as well. Still a bunch more things to order, gotta make all new turbo lines for the new manifold and get material for the custom intake.

My Aquamist HFS-4 kit came in pretty excited about that. I am going to run 4x 0.8mm nozzles direct port plus 1x 0.6mm nozzle after the intercooler, should be running close to 1600cc's of 100% methanol when it is all together. The HFS-4 is the only water/meth kit on the market that can read direct injectors PWM signal. It is very expensive but due to lack of rs4 injector I believe that this is the key to making big power, without secondary injectors. EPL and richard from aquamist assured me this will help get the numbers I am looking for.

They should be sending me back my ecu with the base tune by the end of the week as well, so hopefully only a few weeks away from staring it up....still got to make that intake though and fab up the turbo to intercooler piping and get a catchcan and install the clutch and put the engine back in lol so much to do!!!! Hopefully my clutch arrives friday or saterday that way I can get the motor in the car at least!!

If you have Maestro software, you can hardcode the N75 to run as much boost as you want. In my 6262 B6, I had the N75 hard coded so that I could run 37psi.

My car is doing fine, a few little issues I need to address and a lot of fine tuning needs to be done. I haven't dyno'd the car again yet, that'll probably be next week, if am I able to get everything done this weekend that need to do. I made that power on essentially a stock tune. Now my issue is the car will not crank at all. When I turn the ignition there is no clicking no noise nothing from the starter. This is puzzling becuse when I pulled the motor I didnt touch any of the wiring with the starter i just left it there. First I though it was the clutch switch but after bypassing it with a just a piece of wire between still nothing. Thanks to bman005 i got the wiring diagram and relay location, all the wiring to the starter seemed fine (i never touched any of it to begin with) and after finding the relay in the bottom of the ecu box I removed and inspectd and it seems fine. I suck with electrical so not sure how to test the relay? Idk what it could be narrowed it down to a few things maybe you guys have some more advice.

Starter has a deadspot
SOmething to do with immobilizer since I removed ecu to get flashed and it was sitting without it for about a month
I spliced a few wires from the ECU when installing my aquamist kit you can see them here (http://www.aquamist.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2196) I dont beleive thesehave anything to do with the starter circuit

ONe of my buddies has a VAG-COm so hopefully this week I can scan for codes to get more information

1. When you turn the key to accessory, does the CEL light up?

2. Is the starter trigger wire hooked up?

When the key is turned all the dash lights turn on like normal

And I didnt touch the wires from the starter when I removed the motor, but I traced trigger wire from the starter to a bundle behind the motor and lost it in the bundle. I am back at school but wednesday I am going to take the starter off and make sure all the connection are good and spin it to make sure it isnt stuck on a deadspot

Someone on the main page is doing a part-out. Not sure how far http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/485044-A4-b7-part-out Outside of that, gap.com or parts.com are your fastest and cheapest options. big problems guys [=(]

Soyesterday after my final i rush home to put the new starter in, and after i install it go to start it up and once again no crank. This time the starter solenoid clicks but no start. I am dumbfounded at this point. Think maybe if i loosen the starter it will help the teeth engage because i figured they werent meshing. Try that nothing, then i get the idea to maybe turn the motor so the ring gear is in a different position. Try to spin the motor and it wont freakin budge.

It is locked solid, I am thinkin wow i am f$cked now. Something is interfereing in the bellhousing causing the motor to not spin. Transmission needed to come out. Get it towed to my uncles shop to use lift. I loosen the tranny bolts and now the motor can spin. A few hours later i moved the tranny back far enough that I can see where the pressure plate on the clutch is pressed up against the bellhousing. With all the bolts tight it is just barely contacting this surface just enough to lock it up. So took out the tranny clutch and flywheel and now my car is sitting again. Ill take pic of the top of the clutch to show where it was hitting as well but this is a pic of the inside of the bellhousing where that flat shiny part is where it was contacting.

So now it has to go back to CM and adjusted to the height is shorter [headbang] god knows how long that will take it took a freakin month for the first time around

SHE LIVES!!!! Went up to EPL today to drop off some things and they had her all buttoned up and even took it for a ride around the block, the clutch is different lets just say that haha very grabby basically no slip and the shifts hit hard but hey it is a twin disc and will definately be able to handle hard launches and anything thrown at it....Final dyno tuning is still a few weeks out but they are gunna start street tuning for driveability and maf scaling soon.

Besides a few odds and ends it should come together soon, tony thinks we should try max out the stock LPFP and see where we are at. The goal is to hit 30psi on the hta30r with redline around 8k maybe 8200 to see what these cams can do. Apparently I will be the first to have a finished buld with these cams hehe. He doesnt believe that should be a problem with the ammount of meth I am running about 1500cc's[evilsmile]

I picked up a carbon hood and trunk that will go on when I get the car back, also I am saving up for dtm as well since my front and rear bumpers are shit....I dont put pics up cause my paint sucks lol but now that I am nearing the end of spending $$$$$ on go-fast parts I need to figure out what to do next...

Just got a new set of tires for my summer wheels (bbs ch's 18's) and they need to be refinished, curb rash and finish is shot. I was thinking to go with a gold/bronze of this shade

okswerve16
07-06-2012, 07:40 PM
haha not yet hopefully in a few weeks though! And yeah what I was thinkin was to put the hood and trunk on right now and keep them raw carbon, they have been clearcoated, until I can get enough $$$ for the dtm front and rear. Then paint everthing at once, and also fix some damage I have to my right rear qp and backseat passenger door from so a-hole who hit me in a parking lot.

This might not be for a while since i *should* stop spending so much on it lol but when thew time comes defineatly gunna hit you up for a parts list on what I need to get!

Sounds good!!! I'll be interested to see how your FMIC fits. So far AWE has been the only one I've sen that installed with ease (I learned the hard way TWICE!). And ye, that's the route I went. I had insurance claims for hail an wind damage, so I just purchased all the parts myself. Once they all came in, I eventually did the paint and body fixes at once. Now I have to keep my family away from my car as I think they put the most dings (bikes, scooters, etc) on my car......

okswerve16
07-06-2012, 07:54 PM
yeah the FMIC is one of the reason I wanted to wait, because I think I will decide to redo my cold side piping and maybe even my core lol so I dont want to hack the bumper twice. I think I will start buying the stuff piece by piece so when the time comes I can install and paint everything I just dont wanna get ahead of myself and wait till the car is running great and back in my hands !

okswerve16
07-30-2012, 09:29 PM
progress is being made albeit it slower then I initially thought but when you add as many things as I did and removed lol the tuning is a bit more of a challenge(i should really update everything I have done missing out on so much), and on top of that we are keeping the maf but in a larger housing so that adds a whole another layer to it....

Tony let me know he got 4-5 more revisions done today and hopefully things will start progressing faster so we can finish off the odds and end and get it on the dyno

On another note I got my wheels back and I went with gold [>_<]

How high do you think you'll want to take the boost? You going for a specific number?

okswerve16
08-16-2012, 08:00 PM
till adding boost doesn't make any more power, or we run out of fuel lol most likely fuel
will be the limiting here since hta3076r is good for 40+ psi, but hoping for at least 30psi

okswerve16
08-17-2012, 03:45 PM
rev limit was raised to 7200 rpm started running into some fuel issues, power was up but looks like we are getting close to stock lpfp
I told them I would be happy with 400-425awhp and 7200rpm this time around (still at only 23-24 psi!) [:D] so monday/tuesday pickin her up

I reallyyyyy need a new intercooler/piping still have shitty greddy intercooler system designed for stock k03 LOL

I actually have not and that may be part of my fueling strategy when it comes to the second time around. The problem is the higher rpm's there is problem maintaining pressure at the rail so its bouncing around causing the ecu to dump boost/pull timing because it can't meet requested pressures. So friday we were in the 415ish range but above 6700 it wasnt meeting requested fuel especially since I have the cams, the power really wants to rise up top.... I told tony that I'd rather have 7200 rpms this go around at 400awhp, then 425 but limit it to 6500-6700.

I agree totally, but 7200 is like 500 over stock limiter so relatively speaking I dont think thats a stretch and if it can't handle 7200, I wasted $$$ for that head lol

Operator
08-20-2012, 07:00 PM
Yeh, I figure the walbro400lph with a stage II pump, and maybe the 155BAR prv, should help your fueling needs. How is the w/m system working? What nozzle sizes did you go with. Also since you are port injecting, I venture, you're going though w/m pretty fast, what tank did you choose?

Oh, and get that exterior finished (wheels ASAP!!!).

okswerve16
08-20-2012, 07:10 PM
Yeah, I will look into the stage 2 and a higher prv, currently running rs4. Water meth system is working perfectly, havent peaked back there yet but I am running a howerton engineering tank setup that has a 2 gallon tank. With 4, 0.7mm nozzles port and 1, 0.5mm nozzles after intercooler. And haha not sure how fast I am going through, but probably not as much as you think since it isn spraying unless your in boost which which is harder to do than smaller turbos lol

The wheels will go on this weekend, I am waiting on some new cone seat bolts and 2mm spacers to clear my BBK. Also I gotta put on my carbon trunk and hood ASAP...almost dont wanna go on my trip to nantucket wednesday and just stay home an work on the car lmao

Here you go

Dave, if you're having fuel issues on the HPFP side because the LPFP is dropping pressure, the RS4 fuel controller fixed that for me (it makes the LPFP flow 30% more). There's also another variable (although I don't know if Maestro lets you change it) where the LPFP pressure request can be changed from the factory 4.5 bar (like APR requests 6 or 6.5 up to 5000 rpm).. Maybe log your LPFP and see what the requested pressure is, and hopefully just upping it will fix that issue.

From my understanding of how these controllers work (after reading up audi tech training and talking to a friend at BMW about theirs as well), the pumps on most models are all the same, but what is different is the frequency of the PWM on the various controllers. Seeing that the LPFP is the same whether you have an A4 or RS4, the only difference is the controller. Our A4 one (which is the same as the S4 and A6) is just a small box without a heatsink, etc... This would lead you to believe that if you look at the RS4 one that is bigger and a solid cast metal unit, that the RS4 one would work harder... Following more logic, we have 4 injectors that don't flow nearly as much as 8 RS4 injectors, therefore the low pressure pump can obviously sustain quite a bit more flow than we are getting..

At what RPM does the HPFP begin to float? I would be most concerned with that at higher RPMs

APR pump is good for 8500 before float

Was it necessary to buy the special t10252 audi tool for the engine rebuild? If so, do you want to sell your used one?

Not necessarily but it helps. Are you taking your head apart? Of just off? There's also one for sale on vortex if okswerve wants to keep his.

Don't know yet. Still need to clean the garage, buy a cherry picker (or rent one), buy an engine stand, and take the damaged heart out. Or at least drop the nose of the car and take off the timing belt so I can take the head off and see if I made contact with the valves.

You only need that tool to do the timing chain between the cams. You should go by the marks by the cam gear for timing belt timing.

Harbor freight sells a cheap engine stand that works well. I would just take it apart while it's still in your car. That way you can figure out what you need now and order it and the engine won't be talking up extra space anywhere. But if you are just removing the head and not disassembling it then you shouldn't need the tool

What are you doing for the passenger side engine mount? ATP sent me a metal replacement, but it looks a little weak. I am going to have a cross brace and reinforcement added to it before installing it to make sure that it is solid. Here is a picture of the ATP replacement and next to the stock one.

Even though it is steel compared to Aluminum, I wouldnt trust one weld joint either. You should be good with one cross piece, but I would probably do another one sideways so it is solid from any angle.

that is what I am thinking; a single point cantilever is the weakest design imaginable, so I am putting at least one gusset in there.

I know the engine only rocks and so you wouldnt need anything axial, but I would add it if you are going to be welding anyways. I am surprised they sent you that though. It's kinda funny. BTW I love how your turbo will mount like OEM, down.

The funny thing is, that is the EXACT same aftermarket engine mount that 034 sent me to mount the S3 K04, but I decided to just trim the exhaust mount on the K04 instead so that it fits with the stronger OEM engine mount. So I have 2 of these aftermarket steel mounts. When I got the one from 034, they charged me $145 for the thing too. I was surprised when I saw it and noticed it didn't at least have one gusset or reinforcment point.

I'll be in Ct in a couple weeks.. We should try to hook up, but I have to see how much time I have as I won't be up but for a few days.... I love the drive up from Nc as I get to have a lot of fun on the road.... Few weeks ago on my way up to CT I made a guy in his 335xi feel bad about his car (he had his girl with him) and in New Milford I had a 911 pull out in front of me so I went to left lane and he tried to out run me to get in front of me, but sad to say he lost the bout...lol

But they removed them and hopefully I have time to reinstall this weekend. I might use this downtime though to do my fueling upgrades [evilsmile]

shoot, I just spend the last hour custom filing the windage girdle tray thing to finish fitting the 1.8t oil pump, and dry-fitting the whole assemble. Everything looks super-hello-kitty-awesome, but the oil pickup tube is too long. So I am going to have to find a shorter one or custom job this one too.

which windage tray the plastic one for the 1.8t's? And they make two pickup tubes for the 1.8t oil pump a long and short tube one is for transverse applications and one is for longitudinal but dont ask me which one goes with which haha

1. Right on, I will get a shorty oil pickup. I spoke with Cassidy at Integrated Engineering, and he said the exact one I need is a late B5/early B6 A4, since they are shorter than the Golf/Jetta ones that were included with the pumps for that short period of time. I can tell you this much, he and IE have been a great resource during this rebuild, and I would highly recommend people that want to do a high end rebuild seriously consider working with them.

As for the windage tray, I am using 2. I have is the plastic one for the 1.8t, but I am also reusing the "scraper" spacer tray from my 2.0, which also serves to scrape off extra oil from the spinning works. Here is what it looks like modified to fit, and also put in place where it will sit.

2. Now the oil dipstick piece that is installed in the block is, well, impossible to get out. So I guess this is another part to be replaced.

3. Do you know what the torque specs are for the 8mm hex bolts that hold the engine mount bracket to the block?

Hey guys one thing that I need to mention about the oil pump conversion is that on the dipstick the middle mark is your new FULL point becasue if you put more than that in as you go around corners the oil will come out the side breather on the block from the PCV port (VTA catch cans will be full in a couple seconds id imagine)....

This is a good point. At work we use fittings with 320micron screens to catch oil in those exact situations! Parker is our supplier, but idk if you can get them in different sizes?

THis is good information. Is this with the 1.8t oil pan or the 2.0, and is this with the 2.0 dipstick lower tube portion or the 1.8t? There is I think 4 variations to how it is setup.
