Got a new beast!! Some questions...

Traded in my 2001 Neon R/T for a new pretty beast... It's a 2000 Audi TT FWD. I am having a problem with it, if you read after the pics, that would be nice... As you can see I am not new to Audi's as I have been on these forums for a while and have had VW's and Audis ever since I can remember in my family... Here are some pics and question below...

I am getting a coolant smell comming from the car yet I am loosing no coolant... Doesn't smell like it is getting burnt like in a head gasket way but a small leak... I did some investigating so far and found there is one hose that comes off the head looks like (plastic) and goes to a rubber hose on the drivers side near the top of the bay... It is a bit wet around there and the smell is strong... There is also some kind of sensor there... Could this be my coolant temp sensor? I ask this also because my temp gauge reads on the next line below what my A4 reads... Not in the center like I am used to... I think I need that hose and sensor... Any ideas!?

That could be your coolant temp sensor by what you are describing.

I'm just not quite sure.

It is held in place by a plastic clip and an o-ring. The plastic clip gets brittle over time as does the o-ring. It is posible someone replaced it and it is leaking a little. Its a 5 min job to put a new one in and its about 10 bucks for a new clip, sensor, and o-ring.

Take a pic of the area so I can tell you for sure.

If you do take out the sensor, make sure that the housing is green. The older black ones have proven to be a frequent source of problems. My friend with a 02 TT225 just had his black top coolant sensor go bad on him over the weekend.
