VR6 that is [:p]
So now that the 1.8t blew up and my mk4 Gti VRT is gone, the motor needs a new home and what better than my A4!
As of now, it has ST Coilovers, AWE DTS, short shifter, Euro RS4 depot headlights, dented hood, and an S4 bumper.
I havent had a lot of time to work on it due to work being busy as shit, but as of now I have the motor mounts mocked up, and the oil pan cut and mocked up.
This weekend I hope to finish the oil pan and bolt it up.
I am also waiting on a friend to finish the CAD and cutting of the exhaust manifold flange. Once the pan is done, I will be starting on making both intake and exhaust manifolds.
I hope to have it done by the end of may, but we will see. Moar pics once more progess happens.
Last night Rob came over and worked some body work magic in the engine bay

The weekend was a complete failure for getting shit done on my car, a toyota rav4 and a turbo M3 consumed my weekend as well as this:
haha
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v414/GTItim/DSC_1489.jpg
But I did finish painting the motor mounts. Unfortunately I need to sand the paint off the passenger side motor mount and weld a bracket onto it for this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v414/GTItim/DSC_1405-2.jpg
That is a minor detail.

What made you choose DTA?
My boss uses DTA on his Hayabusa, which means he is more likely to help me tune when I run into a problem I cant resolve, its reliable, its closed loop tuning is fricking awesome, It has options for ethonal sensors, ALS maps etc...
Ive worked with a few different standalones such as AEM, megasuirt (lugtronics) SDS, Tech3 and out of all of those I perfered DTA

I've never used DTA but I've seen it noted a few times that some of its features(most notably datalogging) leave a lot to be desired. it essentially spits out an excel spreadsheet. Sweet. And you're right, out of those choices DTA is probably the winner with exception of lugtronic which is not MS, its VEMS.
Spanky387
04-20-2011, 09:27 AM
Its not even their datalogging that sucks, its their software that isnt the greatest. The new S series has better datalogging, but there is also updated software on DTA's website that you can use for logging that is an off brand of DTA but works with the system.
I havent worked with the newest version of lugtronics, but the lugrtonics I have worked with uses the same software as MS

I had my oil filter housing machined today. I had the pipe cut and re threaded. I also had him machine me a custom plate so I could eliminate coolant running through it. The reason I had to get it shortened was so it could clear my motor mount. It was machined to use the factory gaskets :D 30 bucks well spent!!
He is also cutting me all the flanges I need for my intake manifold.
Also made a coilpack bracket using both GM and VW brackets I had lying around!!
Full Blown should be done with my twin scroll turbo collector next week.

headspacer, main and head studs. I have another vr that I will build over the summer. The 01A will explode before the motor does so until I take care of that, there is no reason to have a built motor yet...

I also finished running all my fuel lines, mounted my second fuel pump and ran all the wiring for it as well. I tied up all the loose ends for the stock ecu and my standalone. Now that the clutch issue is all sorted out with clearing the bell housing, Tiltons pressure plate bolts were getting caught on the back of the bell housing.... the starter is in and adjusted accordingly.

Only reason it is NA is because NO ONE can make me a new exhaust manifold flange. The cost for running this NA is not any cheaper really. I am running full standalone as well as piggybacking the stock computer to control my gauge cluster and ABS.
PS NA Cars suck lol
I have been driving the car daily 40 miles one way to work in the cold ass snow and I couldnt be happier. tires chirp in second, cold starts are awesome. no boost sucks.

Haha I completely understand and trust me if I take this route it will get boosted... Just not right away. With the standalone and everything to get it to this point, how much do you have in it besides time? I'm trying to do either a build on my 1.8 or a vr n/a swap for the time being.

They're not a solid mount, there are rubber mounts inbetween the mounting bracket and where it mounts to the sub frame.

You'll be good as far as mounts go but the 034 12v vr6 engine cradle mounts the engine directly on the engine mount brackets on the subframe. I don't think your going to get away with doing a vr6 swap without any fabrication work though.

The core support wont fit without trimming. and the hood probably wont shut.

Yep your core support definitely will not fit with out some trimming and you will have to probably chop up your hood around the latch a bit. Some guys even had to hammer in their sub-frames a to make the starter fit properly.

hell yes! really following this build. planning a vr swap and a shaved bay. have the bay ready for welding now. Did you build you own harness for the standalone? also are you running power steering and A/C?
Yes, I built my own harness, and yes I have both AC and power steering, I havent made the lines for the AC yet but I am in no hurry now, but the compressor and condensor are there, as well as the power steering.
Normally I try to utilize the factory harness when I do standalone setups, but I already used up most of the factory harness when I ran my ecu on the 1.8t that was in there prior to the vr

Manifold is done, and so is my clutch, took a final shit on the way to work this morning. Once again, the fun is going to have to wait. Not excited. Thankfully Mike Hood did some research for me and it looks like clutchmasters will work with my flywheel so I will be going that route next time. Thanks Mike! Pics to come later.

I think you forgot to mention to everyone that your Tilton Clutch has less than 2,000 miles on it. [down]

Wow; I never clicked on this thread cause it said Boosted 12v and I thought that meant the 12v V6 hahah.
Very nice, but why was the 12v flange so hard to get ahold of? We've got them here @ the shop.
Stuff looks great. I'm sure I missed it, but what turbo are you going to run?

Back in December, Jeremy said you didnt have the file for it and we would have to place an order of atleast 10. Then he called back and said you had an outside vendor that had just finished a batch but they were only mild steel. Ordered that one, but it never came.
The turbo is a holset hx52

No idea, I literally just got done with it, need to do more tuning before it goes to the dyno. My A/Fs were pegged at 10 under boost so it needs to get leaned out. So Rob needs to stop looking at houses and get over here so we can do some tune time!

Yes I am running the stock radiator. I have one fan mounted where the stock AC fan was, then I have to 7" fans that are mounted in the front behind the grille

not sure on the fans. Ill have to look. but I did redo my fuel rail setup. I purchased the billet fuel rain from BBM since my 034 fuel rails injector bungs were machined incorrectly so the injectors kept leaking, I compared it to the new one and there is a huge difference in where the ports for the injectors are. I also took this time to redo my intake manifold and port the runners and redo the beveling on the inside.
