Well, I dropped off my '03 A4 1.8T yesterday at the dealer for the 30K Maintenance and a few other incidentals. While I was there, they had a Red B7 A4 2.0, 6 SPD, Quattro, 17" Wheels, black leather seats, Xenon Package, Electric seats, seat warmers front/rear and Bose stereo. The price was $36,750, they also had an automatic for $37,750. Don't get me wrong, I love my Audi, but, at those prices for only 200 HP, I think I may be looking elsewhere when it is time to buy a new ride. For the value and they are less expensive, the Acura TL (270 HP) and the Infiniti G35 (298 HP) seem to be a better alternative. I hope I don't get the hater posts. Just my personal opinion.

If HP is all you are after then yes you are better off with a different car. Get a legacy GT 250hp tunable to well over 300 and AWD.

Audi's are about more then HP.

It is not all HP to me, but I also have to consider that since the car is only two years old, I had the fuel pump, window regulator (2x), coil, cup holder and radio replaced. I never had any issues even close to that with any of my previous Japanese cars. I still like the Audi, ofr it's looks and it does drive well, but when I look at the realiability and costs, I think I may have to jump ship soon.

figure you can get a certified 4-8k mile b6 s4 for under 40k and 37k sounds stupid for a b7 a4.

Same thing I have been thinking about Scott. I'm buying one of the two eventually. Still debating which one. I love the B6 S4 so much, but I'm the kind of guy who has to have the newest toy. We'll see. I won't be making any purchase for at least a year.

Insurance may be the factor where you get the b7 not the s4

I'd never get a TL. With that amount of power forget about FWD... it's just a waste.

Or you could just go and buy an e36 or a few years older E46M3ci for around that and those damn things are just so fun to drive, 6 speed, RWD, quite comfy too. I enjoy test driving those at work! :)

I agree with erock. Audi is a Sport Sedan and is at the bottom of HP Race. While being a turbo does alow to make up the ground easily it is still priced high. My car will be replaced next spring and so far it may have to be a s40t5. The b7 is growing on me and now I like the b6. We will see what comes up with the 2.0T but......

I think they are a bit pricey as well.

Audi is looking to sell the A3 under the B7 price . . . all about marketing to them. People will say .. . "I want an Audi, the A4 is too much . . but the A3 is just right."

The A3 will be just under the B6 price, but over a GTI's cost. If they offered the B7 at the same price as the B6 then they wouldn't complete the money spectrum so to speak with the A3 coming out soon.

all in all . . . I love my VAG products . . . but they are losing me with dropping warranties and increasing prices, not to mention costs of repairs. I think I might move onto another company . . . not sure what just yet though. Altough the new Passat is going to be a nice car, potentially nicer then the B7 . . . sorry to say it folks, but it is true. More technology in the new passat, with the 3.6l Vr6 being put into it . . . sorry Audi . . you loss with the intracompany competition.

Audi has completely re-mapped their price points, and like MARK said, they are selling the A3 at the old A4 price point and hoping to squeeze the B7 into the lineup at a markup. Its all about revenue management and marketing. Get used to it...other companies are already following..like BMW for instance.

If you sit in the new B7 you'll see where they spent the extra costs...the interior is exceptional! The nav + is sick!!

Don't get me wrong though, your best value is a used low mileage B6 or other...

jessahhstyle, I noticed your from Ontario, CA, is that California or US? I am currently on a business trip in Ontario, California. I had a meeting earlier today with a company called ILFC. They are located in the MGM building in LA. Impressive building. Then I took a ride through Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive. Sick cars everywhere. I saw 3 new stlye Bentley's. That is just drop dead moeny.

If you are all about HP then pick up an STi or Evo, both AWD and both can be tuned to insane amounts of HP. Those cars are race cars purely. The Audi is a luxury car that can be raced.

Unfortunately the main reason for the price increase is the stronger Euro compared to the US dollar. VW/Audi is going to be struggling with this for some time to come until the US Dollar strengthens back up to previous levels.
