I'm looking at the carfax records on an A4 I used to own and am amazed by the inaccuracies of what an Audi dealer submitted. I'm the guy who had the water leak (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/374647-water-leak) issue; I told the dealer that there were sufficient conditions for a lemon law case in my favor and they worked out a buy-back/trade-in deal that equated to a replacement with various Audi incentives. So the dealer is selling my old car now with a carfax link for it on their site. Curious, this is what i found:
Carfax-> Interior trim checked
summary of the service invoice-> dealer had the car for a week; claimed to have reproduced the problem; added sealant to the drains & confirmed no leak; replaced headliner

Carfax-> Front wiper blades/refills replaced
summary of the service invoice-> dealer had the car for a month; reproduced leak; replaced drainage tubes; sealed drains; replaced windshield; replaced headliner
Not on the service invoice-> While on my way out after signing off on the service, I mentioned about having the wrong wiper blades (two short passenger blades) and the service manager ran out and replaced them both himself before the shop closed.

Pretty big differences between what all happened and what the dealer reported. I always questioned how much info actually made it to carfax reports but I figured dealer service centers would be the honest sources, like their reputation would be worth more than any tweak they did to one car's record. fwiw the dealer is offering the car CPO.

Yeah that's the problem with CarFax they rely on whoever is doing repairs on the vehicle to submit an accurate service invoice but more often then not they just lie about it to keep the vehicles resale value up.
