So I finally get the cojones to hit the town in my new A4, freshly tinted, cleaned, and shiny, and on two separate occasions, people are trying to entice me to race...lol.
The first time I see another black B8 like mine with his rear fogs on, so I pull up next to him to give him some props (mostly a vain attempt to admire the exterior of the car while driving it at the same time :P) . Then as soon as the light goes green dude takes off then starts weaving through traffic.
Later in the evening at about 3 am or so, I'm driving home and there is an old Nissan Altima and Lifted Ford F250 ahead of me, they slow down, and both take off for the next light. At the next light we're spread out in 3 lanes then the two take off again. After a while the truck takes a left and so the Nissan slows down and waits for me to get to the next light. Then, the Altima tries to race me at the next 3 lights! Everyone in the car is looking at me, the driver is revving the engine, and I just ignore them and keep on driving.
My last car was a Scion tC which when I bought it, was one of the first tC's on the east coast. It seemed to me that everyone out there wanted to race it and see what it was all about (nothing real fast...think riced out accords, civics, mini coopers and midsize SUVs LOL). I could understand this because well its a 2 door coupe, that is styled to appear quick. On the other hand, the A4 is a 4 door sedan.
Do you guys find alot of people trying to race you in your B8s?

It must be a florida thing.
Nobody tries to race me out here in Chicago.

I get the same, but I also drive pretty aggressive.
I had a 328i coupe try to pole me on a local street at a light on a rainy day.
I had my wife and kids with me so I didn't get baited.
However, I did hit a gas about halfway and the guy had to accelerate much faster then he wanted to merge to my lane (This was two way street with 1 parking lane and 1 driving lane.).
Then he had to lock his brakes and skidded to the other side of the street to avoid rear-ending the guy in front of him.
Lucky for him there was no on-coming traffic. Just an idiot!
I think this guy is going to think twice about doing something stupid like that again.
So yes, I've had plenty of Bimmers and oddly enough, the new Nissan Maxima's try to "show me something" and entice me to race.
Usually I'll partake for a bit until I'm at about 80mph, but then my senses kick in as I'm usually on the road during rush hour.
I've gotten smoked by a few cars, S5, new Subaru WRX and an AMG CLK.
The WRX was surprisingly quick. Maybe it's because I'm not familar with Subaru cars.
I laughed when the WRX went 0-60 then back to 0 all in less than 8 secs trying to show me something in heavy traffic.
I think a lot of guys just want to test their cars against the B8's.
Have fun, but be safe, enjoy the car.

I concur with what coolwater stated. Enjoy the car, but be safe. Unless you are in a controlled environment that is meant for driving like that, don’t get baited. I have been in 3 serious accidents, bad enough that the EMT crew on site at 2 of them stated that I should not have walked away from the crash. At all. All 3 times the car was completely totaled. I didn’t cause the accidents, but 2 of the times I did put myself in the situation and the worst did happen. Also lived in Houston for several years, and it was during the time when the first “Fast and Furious” came out. Those in Houston know Westheimer and Richmond roads very well, and during this time there were so many accidents at this time by those thinking they were living out a scene in the movie. When you see a lot of the aftermath (blood, brains, body parts) it makes you think twice about taking a stupid chance because some guy whips his out on the table. Just my 2 cents.

I came from a Scion tC also, had a superwhite 05 delivered on December 2004. Same experience, people tried to race that car when it was new. I've noticed a lot of people also try to race my B8, from civics to 335s. Last one was with a ford fusion sport, way out of my league but I still managed to keep up.

I sometimes get this around Atlanta but it depends most on how I'm driving. I like to fly on the long highway onramps, since cops aren't watching and I love that I can far exceed the speed limit before getting on the road. Yesterday a 350z and a Maxima both joined in and wanted to continue on the highway but I'm not into that. Driving normally, I've only had two cars want to race, both BMWs.

^ Loved atl downtown 75/85 bottleneck at 3am. 6 lanes of pure freedom. Po po never set up speed traps there. Guess they were too busy chasing down other sorts of crime.
Roads where I'm at now suck so bad no one even thinks about racing.

im sure many people try and race me, seeing as i'm a young guy in an all black car. i ignore them, and drive at my own pace. if i wanna drive fast, it's not cause some guido in an integra called me for it.
a couple of times I have hit the throttle to "end" a little mucking around by a couple of nitwits in cars that were significantly slower than me. just kinda like the big dog comin' in and separating it [:D] (i know, i know, a4 2.0T is hardly a 'big dog' but relative to a toyota echo it was LOL)

I never respond to race invites. It's retarded on street roads. Not because of safety issues, but because I like my driving license.
Any suspicion of racing in Ontario means:
-Max fine of $10,000. Minimum can be $2000.
-License suspension (1 week) on the spot. Second conviction can suspend up to 10 years.
-The definition of a “driving stunt” includes driving a motor vehicle at 50 km/h or more above the posted speed limit.
-Car impounded for one week if race involved >50km/h (which is almost always)
If they include reckless/careless or even dangerous driving along with stunt racing.....get a bicycle.

Oh yeah, I've done this many times. Once they see the B8, they get back in line and in their lanes.
I've had a few times where I'm letting a person merge or cut-over and they have the triple hesitation. lol.
I've rarely had any cars cut me off though. except for that bimmer incident above.
For the most part the driving community respects the new B8's.

I think i'm getting too old for racing anyways. Plus our cars are slow. I feel my car is slow even with intake/HFC/exhaust/stage II tune. If i were in a P/F-car then i'd be tempted to do stupid things... but not in my high 6 sec car. I don't see the point of racing against econo sedans like civic/maxima/altimas...

Are you serious? Shouldn't you be in the low 5's with all those upgrades?

You are right though, even in the low 5's, can't outrun a stock WRX.

I'm glad to see that the general consensus is that its not worth racing. I've lurked several other car specific forums and some are VERY race happy. One VW forum had a section dedicated to who's raced what. There were some ridiculous comparisons, like "Almost pulled on a lambo today..."
At the end of the day, the way I see it...my car warrants more female attention when it is parked, not when its racing down the street ;)
If it was me, under safe circumstance, and on the highway; I would have probably liked to see how my car performed

Cell phone pics. 15% tint Black P- Sport Pkg. I'm hoping to get a photoshoot with my little brother's white E90 328i sometime soon, if he ever cleans it.

It's not always who's the quickest, in my opinion, our cars look damn fine just cruising around town.
Nicer than 95% of the rest of these cars on the road.
Maxima, G37, WRX (fugly), 335, Lexus IS, etc etc.
Only other cars nicer looking are other Audi's and Porsches.
