The "Audi Sportscar Experience" Latinamerica 2010
I want to share this awesome experience with all AZers, it's been 24 hours and I still feel the adrenaline rush
Yesterday I had the honour of being invited to attend the "Audi Sportscar Experience" at a racetrack near Guatemala city. The travel was long and hard due to a tropical storm, but all the tiredness vanished when I arrived and stared at the racetrack: half a dozen R8 plus S4, S5, S5 cabrio, RS6... WOW... pure carporn !!
The experience started with a short classroom where a couple of nice Audi race drivers from California offered some basic lessons about racetrack driving and the R8's dinamics (those "nice" teachers were both ex-champions from some racing divisions, can't remember if GT3 or something like that)
Then we had the opportunity to drive them all:
I ran my first laps on a blue R8 V10, all the time under the guidance and radio assist of a race driver, following his path onboard a red S5. Once familiarized with the track things started to speed up, heavily. Then I raced the other cars (S5, S4 and finally the RS6 V10), but none of them like the R8.
The S5's V8 engine is amazing, what a superb car, the engine sound is brutal and handling was exquisite on the track's closed turns, same goes for the S4 despite being "only" a supercharged V6, but what the hell! after driving the R8 it felt like lemonade after a good scotch.
In order to really appreciate them well I should have driven the other cars first, because after being in command of a V10 with over 500 hp and such great dinamycs of a mid-engine low profile sports car, the other ones felt so pale in comparison (it was a full racetrack after all).
The R8 V10 is a f*(k!ng UFO dudes [drool]
and I had the opportunity to drive not one but FOUR R8s, all with the monstrous V10 engine
OMG that strong raw macho sound is ADDICTIVE
and the handling... it corners as it's on rails !! (hmmm... that sentence sounds familiar LOL but that's the better way to describe it)
Downshifting this monster to enter the first corner after the long lane felt brutal, it was so heavy I could feel it in my neck (of course my head got heavyer than usual with the helmet, but the downshifts were really hard, so bloody cool)
BTW I was so focused on the track and car that it wasn't 'till a friend asked me "what top speed I reached" that I noticed I never saw the odometer [o_o]
My last chance on the R8 came late afternoon, I did some more laps to the circuit, but this time it had started to rain and I had the chance to feel the QUATTRO at its max: no breathe and no words... and then it was over; I didn't want it to end !!! This thing is so addictive, fun !!
It's plain testosterone: the R8 V10 is pure carporn
Fully recommended experiece
