will it be available on the A3 sportback when it debuts in the US? i know it's available in the UK and Mexico, so I'm assuming it will be. I like that your shift lag is only 0.2 seconds compared to the tip at 1.0 seconds. it's the same as having the tip chip.

As far as I know, DSG is coming with the 3.2 Quattro Model. I'm not sure about the others. I'm kind of curious to learn more about the DSG tranny too.

It's available now on the 3.2 TT. Go test drive one and see for yourself. [;)]

Kinda reminds of the SMG as in the M3. If its anything similar its going to be a blast.

Its better than SMG.
DSG = dual clutch -> 1 for upshift, 1 for downshift
I can't wait!

just because it has two clutches doesn't make it better, but i hope it really is better because i'd love to have DSG in the future too.

if it's better than SMG it's insane. that SMG is the shizzle

DSG shifts smoother than SMG but does not shif as fast, also dsg will not let you , say leave it in 2nd and power throught the turn, it will upshift automatically to 3rd, so it wont let you hold a gear like the smg will.

Gears 1 3 5 on one clutch gears 2 4 6 on another. So in pratice. you are in 5th gear coming to a 90 degree right hander. it's a 2nd gear corner. You hit the downshift paddle down 4, 3, & 2 the gear selector will be ready in 2nd gear so as you brake the car will automatically blip the throttle to match the revs viola you're in 2nd power on and out. It's true that the software has its failsafe...it wont let you bounce the tach off the limiter it will upshift for you. I think it's more of an idiot thing than anything. can you imagine the warranty claims because some idiot forgot to upshift?
I did read somewhere that DSG shifts faster than SMG due primarily to the dual clutch system. Because if you think about it the gear doesnt have to go through to the next gear when 2nd is already primed and waiting.

uh, that would be me. i have accidentally tipped back when i meant to tip forward (that 3rd to 2nd shift will kill you). i have also forgotten i was in auto mode and upshifted to neutral.
i shouldn't be allowed to drive.[:D]

Yeah, done that before. [mad] I don't even mess with tip anymore. It's not quite as fun when there is no clutch to stomp on.

The worst with a Tip is when it's not in "Manual" Tip mode, but you think it is, so you pull back on the stick and pop it into nuetral while you're driving. Eeek! [eek]

It may be at least a year before you'll see DSG on the A4 3.2. There's two big things that are keeping it from appearing right now: 1) DSG on the TT is mated to a transverse mounted engine (the A4 has a longitudinal engine), and 2) there's lots of software glitches that many TT owners have experienced with DSG.
They need to spend lots of time fixing the software bugs and the mods to make it work with longitudinal engines.

I think this is wrong, how can a single gear system shift faster than the DSG? the next gear is engaged before the last gear is released, its seamless. the SMG has to change gears just like a regular manual tranny.
its smoother and its faster the only thing it hasn't proven yet is high power applications (S4/S6 and RS4/RS6).

Difeiately wrong. The DSG system is faster.
SMG - 0.08
DSG - 0.02

does anyone know off hand how long it takes for DSG to shift to a gear that isn't already preselected? (IE. downshifts...)
