Hi guys, I need some help here. When my engine is cold, and when it's running around 2800 rpm, I can hear some whistling coming out of it. This happens on any gear. It sometimes happens also around 3400 rpm and it seems it's getting even worst because now I can hear it even when the engine is warmer. I hope it isn't turbo or transmission related problem! Now there is really chilly weather here in Slovakia (-20 degrees Celsius), but I do not think it is supposed to be this way even during such freezing winter. Has anybody experienced something like this before?

whistling or sirens. if it sounds like a siren and its consistantly louder its your turbos. what year is your car?

Mabey the secondary air pump?? Coke can-sized round black thing on the back of the intake Y-pipe on top the engine, driver rear side of the engine bay... They run when you start them up.
Power steering might be low on fluid too. Mine screamed like a bansche when it was low.

Thanks, now I do not think it's the turbos because that whistling is rather constant. Power steering is ok too. My car is one year old. I may be wrong but I would say that the place from which the whistling is coming out is in the passenger rear side of the engine bay , so it is probably not the air pump either. My best guess (and the worst scenario) is a transmission problem :-(

I had a problem with my 2.7T making a noise at the 2500rpm and slightly at 3500-3800 rpm. The weird thing is the noise didnot occur when revving the motor out of gear. I had thought it was a turbo or possibly the tranny.
Finally after looking for weeks. The heatshiled from the turbo was rubbing slightly. It was the upper part of the heatshield where is meets the exhuast manifold. After a quick pull up of the metal the noise is now long gone.

have to check it too. but the weird thing here is that the noise occurs only when it gets really cold outside

spooling turbos? could be the sound of sweet cold air getting forced into the engine. prolly notice it more in colder weather

it does not happen when the motor is out of gear. It has to be the transmission :-(((((( I cannot hear it anymore, it's warmer outside. I wanted to go to the dealer to check it (still have warranty), but the problem is they would not hear anything because when the engine is hot, the noise is gone. Have to wait for the next winter, then I will have to leave my car there for a while...
