So I have my S4 up for sale and I originally had it listed at 33, which was a stretch, then I re-listed at 29. Somebody told me today that similar year/mileage S4's are selling for 25,9. You can barely by an excellent 2007 A4 for that amount. Everybody seems to think that offering me 25,5 to 26,5 is fair. LMAO!!!! I took it to carmax, who I assumed would give me even less than I wanted. They offered me 27,5. Apparently, to them, there's a market for this car and I know they'll turn around and sell it for 33-34. Sucks that everyone else around me thinks they should get it for 8k less than what Carmax is going to sell it for.

You shouldn't believe everything you hear. Just because someone really wants to buy it at that price, doesn't mean that's what it would get in the real world. For an 07 I wouldn't take anything less than 30k and your mileage isn't that high. You have to realize that a lot of the cars going at that price are out of warranty, high mileage, or usually end up being an 05.5.
Don't take it to CarMax... she deserves a better fate than that, plus I think you could probably find a little better deal if you trade it in elsewhere. Otherwise low 30s all day long if you are selling private.
Just low-ballers hoping you're desperate and looking to make a score. I get them every time I sell a car privately. You get one or two guys that offer you $8-10k less than what you're asking and then spend lots of breath trying to convince you of why they're right and why you should give it to them for what they want. It's like reverse hard sell.
I had a car I listed at 31.5, which I put up lower than market just so that I could get pay-off and be done and had this guy who kept calling me every two days trying to get me to sell for 26.5 because "that's all it's worth and I'm doing you a favor taking it". Only took the second call before his number got blocked.
My advice is be patient. I know it seems like nobody's going to show up after a few weeks, but if you have it listed in enough places it'll sell.

Exactly! Most potential buyers are wannabe's anyways and are just looking for that quick buck. Gotta hold strong on that price, and tell the rest to GTFO.

In my opinion this is why the market fall's through on these cars because everyone does this they start at what it is worth and lower the price and everyone say's I saw this car at XX price. If you need the money take the rape. If you don't need the money set a fair price and leave it. The right buyer will pop up. Oh and it is very frustrating dealing with low baller's. The last car I sold I had some shit head kid coming, he kept insulting me on the price. I told him if he wanted the car he would have to pay $2,000 more than I was asking and that was the only way I would sell it to him. If he didn't like that too bad. I Fing hate when people insult me. Lowballing shit head's. Now if everyone would stick to getting what the car was worth everyone would get propper value when they sell their car's.

I bought my '07 S4 with 37k miles for $28.5 from a dealer. Granted, it was an Acura dealer... I do think $29k is a fair price for your car, but after you factor in that any buyer is going to try and whittle your price down some more (listing price is just the starting point of negotiations), the $27.5k that carmax is offering you might sound more and more appealing. Honestly, if it was me I might take the offer from carmax and just get it done and sell the car. It's a pretty good offer if you want to save yourself time and effort... you might make another ~$500 by selling it on your own, but it would probably be nice to not have to keep paying insurance on it while you're trying to sell. Time is money

I know if i were to sell my car theirs no way i would let it go for less than highest book value, All the time I spend maintaining it and keeping it flawless is what the right buyer should be looking for. Be patient and hold out and get what you think its worth.

Its a tough market for sure.. I have had mine in a couple of different classifieds for a while at $35k. I know thats on the high end of the market, but its litterally a perfect car. Im not desperate by anymeans and have turned down 2 serious offers over $30k. If this last potential buyer falls through Im going to buy a few more pieces Ive always wanted to add and keep it for another year or so. Good luck

As a buyer I understand both sides of this, yeah its frustrating for a seller because people are lowballing him, but on the reverse end KBB doesn't always apply to these cars, and at the end of the day a fair price is what someone is willing to pay.
GL with the sale though! I *hopefully* found mine

Take the 27.5k and move on with your life. In my humble opinion 44k is a pretty good chunk of miles to be asking 33k for a 3-4 year old car. Just my opinion don't get butt hurt!
For example I bought my 2005 S4 in 9/2006 and it had 27k miles for 38k - cpo'd from a dealer.

I would stick it out. It really depends on where your located. Some parts of the country the cars are harder to come by. others people want the S4 but its out of there reach. So they lowball. If the car is very clean someone really interested in a clean car will appreciate it when they see it and be happy to pay for it.

i bought my car in 2008 and it is a 2005.5 so your 2007 in 2010 is about the same age and i bought it with 45k miles on it at a bmw dealership i paid $28,500 before warranty and tax it ended up costing me around $31,000 and i was stoked to get that price considering audi dealerships in my area were asking $36k before tax licence and warranty, for the same car with the same miles (and mine actually has a few extra options like cold weather package).
so i wouldn't discount it just cause someone says they saw a cheaper one some where else. unless you want to sell it fast, i bought my car the first day it was on there lot and a guy actually beat me to it but they wouldn't take his trade in (big suburban that was way upside down) and 2 other people came to test drive it while i was in the finance room, so dont be afraid to ask for more cause people really jump on a good deal when one comes up, good luck
