Thought I would dedicate a whole thread to some of the designs that I want to share with everyone here and show the progress of my skill using solidworks. All opinions and ideas are welcome as I continue to learn to create different styles of wheels based on my opinion, and the opinion of other car enthusiasts.
Here is the newest addition to my collection which took me about 3 hours to create. It's very concave as it is similar to the style that you would see on most Audi designer hand-sketches.

Looks like it would fit on a muscle car not an audi.

Yeah, I could see more of a C5 RS6 wheel that has a deep concave cut. I think the spokes are just too busy.

you think the spokes are too busy on the wheel you posted or on my wheel?

I would love to see a BBS RS 18" Rep that could still use the BMW center piece with some nice lips.

I would love to see a 19 or 20 in face BBS RS clone in a 3 piece wheel.

Your designs look nice I guess, hard to say without seeing them on a car. What do you plan on doing with them? It's always good to get more practice with SolidWorks. Try to use the different feature creation tools and sketch relations so that you learn multiple ways for creating parts; I'm not sure how you are doing it now but if each wheel is just a revolved base with extruded cuts, then that is pretty basic stuff. I would also start drawing up other parts to create assemblies, maybe even just draw a hub and brake rotor and caliper so that you can make a wheel assembly. This would be much more useful than just making models of different style wheels.

thanks for the commentary, yeah im pretty much doing just revolved and extruded cuts so i guess i'm doing pretty basic stuff right now but i will continue to practice.. i'm in the process of making those bbs rs wheels and they're a three piece wheel so i'm going to use the assembly feature for that. i'm also going to have to make the bolts that are made for it and show how it all fits together.. let me just say though that copying another's wheel is definitely harder than creating your own. i'm very new to solidworks as i just started taking classes, do you use solidworks for work or anything?

Ok sounds good you are on the right track. Yep I use SolidWorks almost daily at work and for my own projects as well. Here is a trailer hitch I designed and built for my allroad. If you don't want my image cluttering up your thread I can change it to a link.

sorry for the late reply! but yes i had viewed your trailer hitch in the thread you started for it. did you use the welding feature on solidworks? if not what did you do and how did you actually assemble the whole thing together when you actually made it?

Okay guys. All of my finals were finally over this last week and I had all yesterday and this morning to work on trying to replicate the BBS RS wheel. I am liking what I came up with! I think I have figured out the hardest piece out so far of the three. So, just a teaser of what is yet to come... Tell me what you guys think; tell me of any imperfections that you might notice. I know it's kind of hard to tell with just the sketch without the rendering, but I will get to that later today.

Remember, the facial piece that I have made so far is about 17", so adding about 2 or 3 inches more to the actual rim will get a 19 to 20 inch wheel.

did you use the welding feature on solidworks? if not what did you do and how did you actually assemble the whole thing together when you actually made it?
I used the Weldment - Structural Member feature to make the main beam tube and the side C-channel pieces. I have never actually used the weld bead feature in SW but maybe I will try that sometime. When I built it, all the pieces were cut out and welded together. I had to do a lot of measuring and fitting and clamping things so that it would come out square and fit on the car.
And here is a final rendering of the piece I have made so far to get a better realistic idea:
Looks good, are you using PhotoWorks to make the renderings?

Played around a little with SW too, just a noob but as long its fun I learn something new every time
