Interested in stripping some weight, and was curious where I could find a set of aluminum subframes to replace my stamped/tubular steel ones. car is a 2001 A6 4.2Q 6MT.

S6, RS6 and Passat W8 all use them.

Is that the subframe, the uprights or both? Any idea how much weight difference?

Having picked up both a steel and alum subframe I'd guess right now that the alum unit weighs in at about 25% less than the steel frame. so weight savings would be about 15-20 pounds as a guess.

The alum C5 subframes were installed on the S6 and RS6, and the rear alum subframes were installed on the S6 and RS6 avants only, so for the USA the only car with the rear alum subframe is the C5 S6.


The W8 is 4B0399313DG Dealer list price $674.00
The RS6/S6 front is 4B3399313H Dealer list price is $1463.00
The RS6/S6 Avant rear is 4B0505235AB or 4B0505235CC Dealer list price $1282.50

So would the W8 fit the A4/S4?

Th W8 rear subframe would not fit an A4/S4. It is designed like the A6 rear subframe.
