Is it possible?
I am sure I am not the first youngster to think of this, but I did some searching and it seems to me that it is not as of yet possible.
I live in the US, so I cannot get that retrofit package available in Europe.
Please, for the love of God, someone tell me I am mistaken and that it is actually plausible.
inb4 posts saying: "It doesn't matter when you are actually driving the car."
I'm 17 and this is my first car, so understandably I want it to look as awesome as possible.

I searched, and found no solutions. Was just hoping there is one now.
Thanks.

and i don't think you have to worry about people naysaying your desire to have them ** they do look way cooler. there's a few people who prefer the older ones.
sorry I forgot the EU one doesn't work in US.

When I saw the Kufatec website for retrofitting the 2010 taillights I almost peed myself with joy.
Then I saw the "This will not work on US cars" and was like...

You guys give up to easy. There has to be away to do it. Did anyone think to ask Kufatec why it wont work on NA cars? Maybe their answer will be because the module programing is different which is easy enough to change... or maybe it's because the lights are different colours which once again is not a big deal.
If I just sat back and said can't be done not for North America, we would all be missing out on some cool mods.

I am going to go right ahead and do that. Hopefully it's a minor issue that is easy to solve.

I don't mind providing support if a group of you want to try and figure this out. I'm just not going to do the work for this one since I already have LED [:p]. But as you all know I enjoy a challenging retrofit.

definitely interested in this. i have a set of LED tails just sitting at home right now.
I contacted Kufatec a couple of months back about this and they said that they were working on the A4/A5 dongle for the LED taillights and that they'd be posted on their website once they're done.

There is the wiring that you would need. Unfortunately, it states that US users cannot use that retrofit package for some reason. I emailed them, will report back with a response.

I'll update this thread once I get a response.
I am definitely going to go all out with this, if you guys want, I'll keep updating the thread as I gather more information.
Has anyone else heard anything about someone successfully doing this in the US? I'd love to know how they did it.

To my knowledge no one has tried it yet. Not everyone is as brave (or crazy) as the few of us willing to brave the trails to be the first.
I think the brake light pattern is different in Europe (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) Maybe thats why they say it wont work. But there is an option in vag for US brake lights. So I would assume you uncheck that and your now ROW.

Did someone try to get this to work but due to the security lockouts of the B8 NA control module (BC2M or summin like that) one could not directly program the use of LED in it. RLarson along time back I thought had a post or 2 about this. I'm tooo lazy to search, but its here I think (maybe local3's site....)
Found an earlier link fwiw...

Once again the US always gets shafted for this kind of thing... Not always Audi's fault... we can thank the US-DOT for that. Ugly ambers in the headlights, DRL's that wink, and now this.
I am also trying to do a retro fit.

I believe seeing a thread of someone who had their B8 S5 successfully converted from halogen rear lights to OEM led's - I will try to find the thread...

Well it's been done in ROW cars for sure, would be interesting to see one for NA cars for those folks here.

Yes, BBC Technik has figured out a way to retrofit the LED's on US A5/S5 (8T) cars. The general reaction from the community is more frustration than praise. The installation can only be done at an authorized dealer with a service charge of around 2 grand. They also refuse to sell DIY kits. I’m pretty sure they know their time is limited with this idea and are just trying to capitalize on those who REALLY want the kit and are willing to pay. Once it becomes mainstream they will probably release a DIY kit. So far Kufatec is our biggest hope.

It's funny the way he said it... Just like a kid excited about something, I understand what he meant.
David I get what you are doing, but to me upgrading taillights would be one of the final mods I would do, that money is just better well spent in my eyes I guess.

Anyone have any news on this issue?

I've had some pleased customers who have purchased the taillights through me and then had BBC Technik or an affiliate install them. BBC offered installation packages to me to resell under the terms that they must be installed a dealership. I recently spoke with them concerning 2009 and 2010 model differences. I was told the 2010 is quite a bit more of a harrowing installation than on the 2009 models, plus the price climbs for their kit.
I haven't heard much feedback from the A4 community and have yet to sell a kit to the A4 folks. I can happily get taillights, but it would be nice to see someone come out with a plug and play solution. The issue is that the car MUST be at a dealership to install the BCM2 module. If a kit is well made and doesn't require heavy wiring work I wouldn't suspect too many dealerships would have issue doing an install, best to check first. If major modification of wiring is needed I would think most dealerships would run the other direction.
Cheers,
Yes, I'm sure most of people including me who are wanting to due a retro fit kit would much rather a plug and play type kit (even a kit like the halogen to Bi-Xeneon). The extensive wiring for the 2010 A4 kit made me shy away. Since I will lose my warranty with all electronics (that's what the stealership told me). Anyone know of a plug and play kit?

I would love to put out a retrofit kit, but it seems they've got this locked down pretty well. If anyone has a willing dealership and is willing to try the European retrofit kit I am happy to supply at wholesale. The issue I foresee with an avant is that you will have to change to a new set of remote transmitters since the module used with the European retrofit kit is for a different frequency (868mhz) than we use here in the US (315mhz).
The sedan on the other hand doesn't use a new module and I suspect it relies on the VAS to program new software that properly controls the LED tails. I don't know if a US VAS system would even be able to program a module to work with the EU spec tails. I suspect to big a gamble to try in most cases, but if anyone is feeling massively intrepid I can get the genuine retrofit kit for EU spec tails in at wholesale. If it doesn't work resell them back out to European market on Ebay.

Issue is that the RoW units are a different keyless entry frequency.
From what I know BBC Technik gets you a later US module and wiring parts to do the conversion. A dealership does wiring modification and then provisions the new module properly.
I think there is the possibility of the EU spec retrofit kit being used in the US, though it will take someone who has a friendly dealership and knowledge to dig into the details.

He's an owner overseas. The kit that he had installed is for RoW (Rest of World) cars and won't work in North America. These are what the kits for the sedans are based on, but then modified to work and then David needs to do his coding to make them function without error.
Cheers,
