View Full Version : A4. Your age?

Okay this is kind of offtopic but I had a converstaion with my friend today and he said he thinks the A4 looking like a car for a old fat rich dude.

I was wondering what the general age is around here, and what you think about this comment. I personally think the new A4 has a much younger, sportier look than it use to, and is still able to keep its class

Put bi-xenon e-codes on and you get a whole different look. I'm thirty-something....

I'm 33. The new A4 doesnt look like an Audi to me. They cheapened A4 look by only putting duel exhaust on the V6. Looks like a BMW to me. Dont like it!

a8 = older rich dude.
a4 = young car.

the new a4s have a lot sportier look to them; they have more aggression. i'll probably get ripped apart, but the older a4s are pretty damn 'safe' in terms of styling... elegant, takes no risks. hence the reason i never would buy one. the b8 is the first time i considered an audi (not that it says much given my age) but the others just don't jump out as anything special, at all.

the LED, front lip, etc. all add a more aggressive look.

my imput is it depends on the yr of car... for instance im 19... but thats cuz 01 a4s a not too expensive and great cars. b5-b6 = alotta teenagers... in high school 6 of us had a4s (b5s and b6s) b7s and b8s are pricier aka rly young guys (like me) cannot afford

x2 hender.... a8s r always rich dudes

x2 hender.... a8s r always rich dudes

well that goes without saying [:p] but there's something about a big luxurious boat that appeals mostly to an older, experienced rich guy.

I'm 32, but I was 21 when I got my 99.5 A4. I find that many B8 owners are in their 30s, mainly due to the price of the car (you really can't get it for much less than $35K, whereas my 99.5 was $28K). I'd bet that the average A6 owner is in his/her 40s and that the average A8 owner is 60+. That's how Audi wants it to work - they hook you early and keep you for life [:D]

64, Most fun (besides the Wife's A3) Since my 67 MGB (first new car-right out of IUP) and 69 BMW 2002. After 14 motorcycles (pre-marriage)and some dull rides (until the 3 girls graduated from Duquesne), the Avant is the among best mix of: utility, performance, comfort, economy, and above all striking good looks, available today. The iPod with 1300 classic rock tunes makes road trips seamless.

The ages of posters here will obviously be skewed for the younger, computer savvy, enthusiast crowd. Any "old fat rich dude" most likely won't be hanging around this forum. If I have offended any old fat rich dudes I apologize. By the way, I am 46, don't consider myself to be old, I am 5' 10" tall and weigh 180 lbs., so I don't think I am fat. Some people would think anyone driving an Audi to be rich though, but I sure ain't.

Ordered my B7 from the dealer when i was 18, got it delivered when i was 19 (and yes! i did order an Avant!). Turing 21 7th of may. Thinking of going B8 after the summer! Think its the best looking midsize car on the market! Was looking for a 3-series or an C-class before but i think all new bmw and mb look fugly...
I was at the local audi dealers launch for the B8 but since it didnt come with 2.0TDI+quattro before my09 over here i had to go B7. Got one of the las built! 2008/04! =)

When this thread appeared on B6 a few years ago I was surprised at all the young 20-somethings. My first Audi I was 34, now my second (B8) I am just turning 39. Not old, but still much older than most on the forum. I think, at least for previous generations, that the A4 was much less expensive in the US relative to Canada, so younger owners would be expected. and AZ skews much younger, anyway.

Felt like I was 19 when I skipped work to detail the car: washed, clayed, 2x sealant - knocking back beers and playing oldschool speed metal all the while. By the time 5:00pm rolled around I had to pick up the kids from daycare and aged 20 years just like that! how time flies...

I would agree that the B8 is a much younger, more aggressive look. I did see a 50+ guy driving one in the city with a 20-something blonde girl in the passenger seat. Knew instantly it was a mid-life crisis car (further proves the point) because instead of stopping the car with the brakes to make a right on 2nd Avenue, he chose to stop the car by stalling the engine. I laughed as I downshifted and blew by him. Absolutely for shame.

I was wondering what the general age is around here, and what you think about this comment. I personally think the new A4 has a much younger, sportier look than it use to, and is still able to keep its class
30+ shipping&handling.
I think your friend got it wrong.
A8 or is for the old/rich/fat dudes and RS6 for ././thin ones.

A4 is for Yuppies.

Im 26... I mostly see mid 30s+ people driving A4s/A5s though so I'm surprised to see so many young people on here. I see it as a design that transcends generation. My dad really loves the car and he's 63. I get complements from high school kids all the way up to grandmas. Audi's are pretty classy no matter the driver.

Looking at the poll linked to on the first page, I'm an oldie! 39.

I actually view the A4 (stereotypically) as a younger (25-35), successful person's car. Hence why I'm just getting into a car of this price, now at a later age. I'm probably a little behind the curve.

I opted for a Teak Brown A4...seems like a good fogie color [>_<]

I actually do really like it. I'll leave the blacks, grays, and silvers for the younger set.

Stubek
02-19-2011, 07:04 PM
My wife and I looked at the Teak Brown. Her Honda Element is "Root beer metallic" which is awesome and the Teak Brown looks great next to it, but I just didn't want to drive that color plus that would have required a 12 week wait for my new car which was not an option.

I got my baby a few months ago, just before my 39th birthday. Came from an '06 Saab 93 2.0T, which I had for 5 years. Having said that, Audis here in Australia are a luxury car, hence here they are driven by a more older crowd. A4's start at around AU$50K new, for the most basic model. When you add Quattro, S-Line and the like, it starts to skyrocket. My car retailed for AU$102K which I bought for AU$85K.

Having said that, it's nice getting outta my car and you can see people thinking "gee, he looks a bit young to drive that!". It's a car that certainly turns heads often!

Well, to get your probationary licence here you have to be 18, and hold onto that for 3 years. So if you were driving around at your age over here, you'd be on your L's (Learner's licence) and accompanied by a full licence holder, and a L-plate on the front and back of your car. it would look like you're learning on your old man's car!!!

Are you serious??

Australians think Australia is a Nanna state. ie we have a grandma, fearful and conservative outlook on everything. Over here, we are constantly reminded that speed kills. So many speed and red light cameras here as well.

Yet you look at places like Germany where the autobahn speed limits are 200+ km/h, they have less deaths on their roads than we do going 110 km/h. We also have a lot of people who drink drive (stupidly) and I suppose because of long distances between destinations here in Australia, we get a lot of people who fall asleep at the wheel. But yes, the process in which to get a driver's licence is getting more and more lengthy.

3. 2006 Chevrolet Equinox (got it for the wife!)
4. 2006 Toyota Corolla S
5. 2007 VW Rabbit

7. 1998 Nissan Altima

Commercial satellites - big ones - ViaSat 1 just launched Thursday, QuetzSat two weeks ago, AsiaSat 7 next month. Dish Network, DirectTV, lots of other customers.
I'm the manufacturing engineer (not design engineer) for Antenna Backup Structures - all C/F stuff - for last 20 years.
Fortunate to enjoy my work/job, and to be employed in these times.
Thanks for inquiring, please don't use "Mr" ... "sir" - already feel old enough [:)]

Ok. Sounds fair enough. Sounds like we are on opposite end of the Mfg spectrum. I'm in into small stuff 0603 or 0402's any where from 3 to 7 parts a second. Kind of do the whole Solidworks.. then assembly... and debug thing. Started doing that 30 or so years ago.

Manufacturing is kind of a dying art in this country.
