"The RS6 just went out of production this past October of 2004. Quattro GmbH built for more than they expected to. Originally, about 6,000 units of this amazing car were forecast to be built, but 8,000 units were made over the two year period. Our new RS4 based on the B7 should be entering production when the workders come back from the summer vacation of 2005. To be unveiled this coming spring in Geneva, the FSI V8 wicked wonder will make its debut. Tuned to somewhere between 425 and 450 hp normally aspirated, this is just in time to take on the new 400 hp V8 powered M3 that will be unveiled this next year no later than the IAA in September of 2005. As the new M3 is rumored to continue to be RWD as well, it should be a great battle to witness, much like the Mustang versus Camaro battle of American automotive lore. The new RS4 has been spied by all of the European car mags getting daily tuning runs at the brutal Nurburgring. The suspension and engine boffins at Audi are putting the finishing touches to this highly awaited model. As for the competition the AMG powered C55 is already on the market. With at least 60 more bhp and quattro in the Audi, will the new RS4 have enough margin to leave it in the dust? Like the RS6, it will pe produced in sedan and Avant versions. Which one will be headed here? We should see both versions by the middle of 2006, most likely as a model year 2007." [hail]

I don't know about leaving hte C55 in the dust.. maybe a little faster, but its great info no less!

It'll most likely be heavier than the current S4?

Just the opposite from my readings. From the speculation I have read though, it is supposed to receive "extensive" weight reduction over the current S4.

Who knows, but way more power and less weight sounds awesome! [race]

Is it going to be just sedan? I hope they bring the avant over this time....

And i'm hoping they keep the price... reasonable (like less than 80g's).

Oh yeah, and while they're at it... AoA needs ot get an S3. LOL - I can dream.

Should see/hear something around the time of the upcoming European Auto Shows. But even then, we'll get official word for European production before we get it for North America.

hah.. Why do people talk so much?

I heard it was only going to be the sedan because in the USA the ratio of sales between sedans and avants arent even close.

I wonder if I can rob enough banks in time to get one?

Start saving those pennies, fellas. hehe

I'm sure performance versus the upcoming M3 will be similar to the numbers of the current E46 M3 and B6 S4. The lighter, less powerful Bimmer will edge out the Audi, but I'd still take the 4 rings.
I'm guessing the new RS4 will be in the high $60K range to start. *ouch*

With how much the next M3 is going to cost, it'll probably have to compete against the new RS4.

how fast was the old rs4?? if the current B6 S4 runs 13.7s or so in the 1/4 mile....wouldnt the new RS4 be at least .5 secs faster w/ the added power (and its lighter)?? 13.1 maybe?? C55 = 13.3, M3 = 13.5

Remember that the new M3 is supposed to get the V8 with 400 HP minimum.

Yeah, it'll have the exact same motor that the new M5 and M6 have, just chopped down by 2 cylinders to be a 4.0L V8.

Guess the million dollar question(s) is how much will it be and when will it be released?

Let's just assume first half of 2006 on the release date.

As far as pricing goes, this car should out preform the M3 and will likely be priced around, but above the M3. Assuming the B7 S4 holds the price of around $52K and the E90 M3 well equpied is priced around $62K, I would assume that the RS4 will run from $60-65K. Audi's have always been priced more rasonable than Merc's and BMW's. There's no way they would price this car in the $70K range. Assuming they do in fact reintroduce the RS6, you'd have to figure that based on an RS4 being in the $70's the RS6 would be in the $90's which is higher than the M5 and E55, RS6 competitors.

All this is obviously 110% pure speculation until the Geneva show comes around. Guess we'll all have to wait till then[headbang]

see, not so much anymore it seems. Audi USED to be really reasonably priced and I think to a degree it still is, but they're creeping up slowly. The new A6 is more expensive than it's adimttedly less-equipped predecessor. And let's remember the RS6 pricing fiasco. The E55 AMG was stronger in power and brand-name pull and was priced ~$10,000 lower. Consequently RS6 sales were WEAK. But....

if Audi's learned anything from their RS6 experience, then they'll be sure to price more properly. Your reasoning is logical and I would agree most definitely, but then what to do with the S4? Bump it's price down more? I mean, if there's only a $10K difference between the S and the RS, does that make the S4 kind of a moot point? $10K is a lot of money, but in tihs range, not so much.

Another thing that Audi has to bear in mind is that they still, unfortunately, don't have quite the brand-name pull that their other Teutonic competitors do. They should price accordingly. Not that they should have a firesale, but you konw what I mean. Again, 110% speculation, heh. All we can do is wait and see [:)]

You bring up good points. The main one being the price difference from the S4 and RS4. I guess the best way to look at is maybe comparing it Porsche on the 911, 911S, 9114S. Now chances are that if someone has the means to spend $52K on a car, it won't break their bank to opt for the $10K more expensive RS4. However $10K is exactly chump change. Unfortunately I don't know all the specs on the 911/911s/9114s, though I would imagine that Audi can take a similar road in marketing the S4/RS4 as Porches does with the Carrera.

In addition, their Customer Service is not even close to Lexus or MBZ yet to charge those prices. I know its dealer dependent, but having owned 2 Audis, 2 Mercedes, and a handful fo other cars my general consensus is that MBZ has better customer service by far.

We ALWAYS get a mbz loaner when we bring in our Mercs. I never get a Audi loaner when I take it to Audi. More like a Frontier or Focus.

Are they offering a 6MT in the RS4 (I hope). I wouldn't buy one if it only comes in Tiptronic.
