My first car when I joined the Air Force in '77:
'69 VW Beetle was originally baby blue.

My Second ride '70 Roadrunner 383HPerf with Airgrabber hood was 335HP stock.
Modded it with Direct Connection Parts out of their catalog and would do mid 12's in the Qtr mile at 110 MPH. Awesome burnouts!
• Dana 4:10 w/Smith Bros axles
• Fairbanks Racing A-727B auto trans w/ 4,200 stall speed converter and special valve body for manual shifting the trans
• Fairbanks Trans oil cooler
• B&M Slick shift trans oil
• B&M Starshifter with front brake line lock adapted
• 383HP bored 60 over with 11:50 to 1 pistons with chrome rings and DC Heavy Duty Connecting Rods (ate 440's and 428 SCJ's and 396 Chevys). The motor would really rap out - serious upper end to it.
• Direct Connection Racer Brown cam 500 lift 302 duration
• Direct Connection Aluminum Big Valve racing heads with high ratio Titanium Rockers and push rods
• Hooker Large tube headers
• 2 1/2" diam custom exhaust piping w/cross pipe and Walker Redline Z mufflers (bad ass drag car sound, ca thump, ca thump at idle)
• Lakewood traction bars
• Mallory High Energy Racing Igintion system
• 440 Commando radiator
• Aluminum Water pump housing
• Weiand Aluminum intake manifold with Carter 750 CFM Carb vac secondaires
• Moroso Deep sump high capacity oil pan, Moroso High volume oil pump/pick up and windage tray
A lot of people thought my car had a stick, because I had special valve body in the trans that let me shift thru the gears like a stick. This thing did awesome burnouts and had tons of torque!

My 3rd ride... '67 VW Microbus it's parked next to the Runner (AKA: party bus and Mobile Tool Unit)1600cc Built from a JC Whitney catalog 20MPG HWY. $500 total invested in it! My parts hauler for my Runner when I rebuilt it to Race and hauled all my dorm freinds car parts in it too!

4th ride was a '70 VW Beetle I bought to drive across the USA from ND to Calif and back. Nothing special just stock 1600 with a Holley 2 Barrel carb and header. Was lowered to be a Cal Looker. Got 32 MPG on HWy.

5th car was a '83 GTI which I still have today. Was stripped to bare metal a few years ago at a Street Rod Shop and received a full repaint in stock Royal Red and a shot of clear coat ($3,000 paint job). All seals were replaced and pinstripping too.
has the following in it:
• Techtonics 1960cc Torque Monster Motor Hand built by Collin my good friend who does the R&D for Techtonics Tuning (we go long back to '88 or so).
• Welded Intake manifold and port matched Neuspeed Large throttle body(NO adapter plates here boys)
• Fed Amsoil since break in
• VW Motorsport 4:25 ring and pinion in stock 5 speed trans with Quaiffe diff and .80 5th gear
• Sachs sport 210 clutch and press plate w/light weight flywheel
• Techtonics short throw shifter kit and Euro Golf Ball
• Techtonics Euro exhaust manifold port matched to techtonics twin down pipe to full stainless 2" exhaust.
• Euro "N" grind cam (solid not hyd)
• High lift valve springs

• Braided brake lines throughout
• Scirrocco 10" ATE U-Groove vented 16v front brake discs
• VW pickup rear brake drums
• Mintex Red Box pads at all 4's
• Centra type 11 wheels on Pirelli 205VR5514 tires (yes they stil have the nubs on them too)
• H&H racing sway bar/stress bar on front lower suspension
• GMP upper stress bar
• H&H rear tubular bar and stock sway bar
• ABT rear upper stress bar
• Neuspeed Koni Sport Autocross shocks and struts
• Poly bushings in all suspension components
• "Hebb" Autocross springs 1 1/2" lower ride height
• '84 GTI Bumper brackets (these took 48 lbs off the car - old autox trick)
• Hella H4 German glass headlight buckets with high watt bulbs
• Momo Cobra steeringwheel w/ GTI horn button in center

Featured in VW trends Magazine.
Was always in top of DSP Solo II in San Fran and Fresno SCCA Clubs.
Car weighs 1960lbs.

Car will do a burnout in 3rd gear. Difficult to say since traction is a problem with this motor, but sub 14's in Qtr are very possible.
Car is a sleeper... looks stock.

• Custom street rod headers
• Stock HEI Ignition
• 300ZX Brake booster and master cylinder
• Turbo 350 trans with B&M shifter and oil cooler
• Nissan Motorsports rearend with 3.20 pumpkin(had 3.55's ad all I could do is burn the tires off the car)
• Custom 2 1/2" exhaust piping w/sandwiched mufflers side-by-side out the rear tail in the stock location - very quiet!
• 9x15 Revolution wheels in back with BFG R1 tires

• Nissan special fabed race discs and calipers at all 4's
• 1/4 roll cage and 4 point racing harness

• Nissan Motorsports lowering springs

Pulled 12.50 at 110MPH at Sacromento Dragstrip in street mufflers with street BFG's. 0-60 in under 5! It would actually brake as fast as it accellerated. It would place your eyeballs in the back of your head under acceleration and pull your heart out when braking - just (f)ucking awesome! One on the fastest cars I have ever built or driven and still be street legal.

It was a sleeper! VERY QUIET! All though the '70 Runner would do it in a straight line on a cold day in N.D. and had the most Awesome tire smoking holeshot burnout you could ever imagine. That Runner raised eyebrows at the dragstrip! Afterwards folks that saw me at the dragstrip on the way home back to base, no one messed with it - She (Runner) was Bad! The Z was a true sleeper! Sounded odd at idle almost stock, but once trounced on it came alive and scared people (myself included)!

Hass,

Ever known or heard of Paul Ruschman? He moved back down to Eugene a while back but he used to live next to me. He's the reason I got into modding cars. I got to work on this every day... and drive/ride shotgun at PIR and various SCCA events.

No, I sold it when I moved from Calif to WA. At the time I had 3 vehicles and had to move up here. Sold the Z and moved the 2 left.

Wish I still had it, but it was SCARY fast.

I hear that!!! All I'll say is it gets hairy when the front end starts drifting and the spedo says 176 and you have a Vette Z06 on your ass [hail] to the Vette for keeping up [:D]
