Lets say I put $150 Ebay rs4 body kit, angel eyes and fake xenon, big spoiler and 20" wheels. But on the rear of my car is says 2.0 WTF???!!! Nobody gonna respect me, so I am will go and de-badge it now, so people think I am driving a supercharged v8!!!
But to be serious, de-baging does not look that bad if at least rings are staying. Complete shaving is too much IMHO

Currently not debadged- always thought it was tacky. But as I've been researching some mods I plan on doing to my car, it dawned on me- my car really isn't a 2.0 A4 anymore. So to differentiate from stock A4's I may very well debadge...maybe just swap badge for an APR badge or something.

I agree with you. It's to bad APR doesn't send a badge when you get the programing done. I would probably find a home for it on my car.
Doesn't Stasis offer a badge? I saw one on an A4 before but not sure what you have to buy to get it.

AFAIK, once you've put enough STaSIS mods on your car to certify it as a Challenge Edition or Touring Edition, STaSIS puts the badge on.

I've debadged my Avant because the rear looks so much cleaner.
To comment on the above...you can add anything you want including a BAT creating 800 horsepower but unless you're reboring your block to increase displacement you're still running a 2.0L Turbo.

As others have said, it's primarily for a cleaner look. Imagine wearing tags on the outside of your clothes so everyone can see what size they are. What's the point of the badges anyway... to help cops write up tickets?

This is in addition to the weight savings and reduced drag. Contrary to popular belief, racing stripes add only 2-3HP crank, therefore debadging is the superior mod.

cleaner look for one.. This because popular in Europe years ago, when people would debadge lower end models
Lower end models in Europe, if badged at all, are sometimes debadged because they offer so many different levels of engines.
Some makes have started charging more for badges in Europe, especially BMW and MB. On base models, I believe Audi does the same (charges extra). As far as most Europeans are concerned, badges = flair (think Office Space). For most people like us (Euro auto fans), flair = gay/weak/fail.
Plus, like Poimbino says, from 2010+, only the 2.0T is offered, so no real need to advertise that.
After 4 years in Germany, I came to love the look, so took mine off as soon as I learned how.

Question: I am going to debadge my car - what exactly do I have to do to not damage the paint. Should I just use floss - is there any residue after removing?
Ryan_T
02-27-2010, 05:24 AM
Heat it up with a heat gun or blowdry-er (carefully), and separate the adhesive with floss or fishing line. Clean up any residue with goo gone and/or claybar.

I used goof off, it worked great, and then applied a layer of was over the trunk area to ensure there wasn't any loss of protection
ItsDubC
02-27-2010, 11:44 AM
Heat will have the greatest effect on making the debadging process easy in my experience. I use a blowdryer and floss to get the badges off. Then I spray some bug & tar remover on a microfiber and heat the residue left underneath the badges before using the microfiber to remove the residue. The bug & tar remover is nowhere near as effective w/out heat applied.

I'm debadged because when I was washing the trunk area, I clipped the lip of one of the badges and tore it off. Decided to debadge it but leave the Audi rings. I actually work with someone who drives a RS6 and it is debadged as well. Talk about a complete sleeper although the widebody does give it away if you know what your looking at.
ACowabunga
02-27-2010, 09:27 PM
With debadging you also create a sleeper effect with your car. For example, you can take the unexpectant driver, who is a bit too aggressive on the roadway and who has written you off as just "an Audi", when the two-lane road merges into one. I did it on my S60R because I worked near a Suburu dealership years ago. I had WRXs and the such always trying to bait me to race them onto the freeway when all I was looking for was just a relaxed drive home. It got kind of old so I debadged the car and rarely had that issue again. I definitely had fun driving a "sleeper" car because no one expected a Volvo to be able to have some decent pull from a stop or at speed.
P.S. I think it did add a few HPs to the car too......lol

I don't have a picture handy but I remember when I put the tips on that they went on about 70-80% pretty easily and the final bit required a VERY firm push. The end of the stock pipe will push into the very end of the tip. A push and twist motion is what I found worked the best.

Yeah, mine are all the way or almost, but I find that they seem to have a slightly different shape than the stock tips. So if I look inside the chrome tip, I can see that the stock tips reach all the way to the end of the chrome tip along most of their circumference, but there's about 1/3 of the circumference where the chrome sticks out a bit more. I'm pretty sure I don't have them rotated wrong because they would only fit one way (with the clips at the 12 and 6 positions). Do you find that your chrome sticks out a bit more than stock too, visually? I mean, it kind of has to I guess, it goes over to of the stock, I'd still like to see another one just to compare.

I just debadged. Weirdly, it was really a mental thing that kept me from doing it earlier. I have never done it to any car before and I was really hesitant. I started slowly. First I tried to see how easy it would be to pop off the decimal point with my finger. It came off so easy, I figured, lets try the rest of the "2.0T". I did it with a lot of dental floss (it kept breaking) and a little scraping with my finger nail. That and some Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover and I was set. I did not use a Blow dryer or heater. It looked good with just the "A4", but that came off too. Glad I did it, it does look better.

Grats! With a cleaned up rear, I get a lot of "Is that the new A6?" (Noobs :P), "Is that an S4 or A4?" (Little more knowledge, but not an Audi driver for sure), and "That's a 4 cylinder??".

A4 V12T (assuming the R8 V10 has a V10 badge)

I (and many of us) debadged my S4 on the front fender to remove the "V6T" crap. We replaced this with the "Supercharged" badge from the A6 stock badge in the same place (which has the same engine as the S4).
Others leave nothing there are all for a "sleeper" look.

If the car is a year old will debadging now show a coloring difference once the badges are removed? If so any way to correct it or is it not worth doing at this point?
If I was driving a hyundai genessis, I'd debadge it first thing. Not a bad looking machine, but the H symbol ruins it.
Debadge a pontiac g8 too. It could pass for a much nicer car without gm bagage on it.
debadge the toyota lfa.....then it might be mistaken for a gtr.oops the gtr costs 4 times less. Nevertheless I'd be taking all badges off my lfa. Then it could pass for an exotic on muffler tone alone.
Come to think of it, lots of cars do better without badges, except bmw...debadge a bmw, and one might mistake it for some radical pontiac car they had never seen before.

Call me crazy, but I even placed an S-Line badge right underneath the A4 badge so that it is on the same level as the quattro badge in the rear. I'm not planning to make any exterior S4 mods so I guess there is no need for me to debadge (I totaly understand the need to debadge if I were to make any signature exterior S4 mods). Sorry, don't be too hard on me guys hahaha...just a proud S-Line owner I guess :)
At the end, it's all about your own opinion and what YOU like, and I think everyone's own style is what makes this community so great! Love looking at everyone's rides!

I have seen to many 3 series BMW with M3 badges...so sad! guess it is the thing to do in my city. Think I have seen more 'fake' M3 and M5 then real ones..
what city are you from lol

What's the best way to go about RE-badging? Debadging creates a great clean look & I want to do it, but I like to have a backout plan. I'm thinking about things like re-sale time or if i just change my mind, etc. What should you use to re-apply the badging that will keep it on yet not destroy the paint or clearcoat?

You're very welcome. Reapplication is very straight forward. The only issue is proper placement of the badges. But I'm sure you can always use another car as a reference point.

i debadged for asthetics as well, to me the rear numbers look off balance, kinda like my Premium tail pipes. Thats one gripe i have with the B8 , why go with the single outlet? it doesnt look as nice... the one down-grade from the b7 , IMO

This is in addition to the weight savings and reduced drag. Contrary to popular belief, racing stripes add only 2-3HP crank, therefore debadging is the superior mod.
Guess I'll post an ass shot as well:

Ya I considered it before but I just don't want to have something shiny and attention-grabbing so low on the car's body near the ground. I think keeping things subdued and un-highlighted down low adds to the sportiness and helps convey the appearance that the car is even lower than it actually is since there's nothing down there that might help emphasize where the car body begins in relation to the road. This is one case were meteor actually works in my favor; the fact that it takes on a darker hue most of the time helps blur the boundary between the road and car IMHO. Btw this is also the same reason why I've never been interested in chrome fog surrounds.
That being said, I'd be all over the AWE black diamond tips if they'd fit. I do have another option that I've not completely scratched off my list: Buying the OEM stainless steel avant tips, sanding them down to prep their surface, and then painting them matte black. These are the results I'd be going for: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/221644-Milltek-Arrived-and-Installed-Pics!-Video-clip-is-Up!?p=2680076&viewfull=1#post2680076

But it's just tips, not that big of a deal. It definitely would allow you to get a beefier thickness on the tip with still keeping your darkness to make people think you are super low.

i recently got rear ended while parked the other day in West Village of NYC. The $%^& who hit me cracked the interior of my brake light housing (but no cracks externally) and ripped off my "A" badge of the "A4".
Question to all of you, what products do you use to remove the sticky adhesive that was behind the badge? or is this simple elbow grease?
I also have a quarter sized indent toward the top of my trunk... right above the license plate light. Paint has chipped almost 1/4 of an inch. Metal is totally exposed.
Needless to say, i was upset when i noticed this

I only park in Manhattan on Sundays.
Much less crazy.
