I have McCulloch HID's and as of late my drivers side light flickers for a few seconds before eventually igniting? It seems like the "flickering" time is getting longer as time goes by. What do you guys think is going on? How do I fix it? Will McCulloch stand behind their product if it's a shotty igniter box?

Love some feedback from anyone who has info.

Best,

Cody

When my bulb started to go it would flicker then eventually turn off.

Maybe you have a bad igniter?

My pass.side bulb first started to change color, then went out. Then it started to flicker while changing to a purplish color, and went out. Now it flickers all the time. It started on Sat night. Im going to swap my drivers side headlight with my pass.side light and see if it flickers/changes color. If it does, its the bulb, if it doesnt...i guess its the ballast.

If OEM flickers then it is either bulb or controller (ballast etc)

If aftermarket kit flickers then one issue can be your car computer...

I had flickering problem when I converted my halogen fogs to HID fogs and flickering is caused by car computer sending pulses to halogen bulb to see it is ok or failed, it keeps sending pulses about 10 mins and turns off.

Flickering can be fixed with either capasitor or some HID kit manufacturers have can-bus fix adapter (capasitor). In my case, dealer was out of adapters so I bought capasitors and made "iron-wire trimming" terporary fix till I got the real ones.

I have that HID system in my other vehicle, originally wired to existing harness, it worked for year and half and one of them started to flicker, eventually found the problem to be ballast, this time I used relay and wired through battery and now 4 years pass and no issues, I read through couple HID forums that it is better to have aftermarket HID wired through relay and power from battery as oppose through existing harness , the kit I bought came with relay originally just didn't put first time

WOW! This info is awesome. Maybe if i go this route the crazy ass "BUZZ" that I get through my speakers will go away when the hights are on
I have a McCullough setup that is plugged right into the factory wires. Where can I find specific info on how to make this change? It's been 2 years with no issues, but here I am. Thx

Get 4 point 30 or 40 AMP relay and fuse with base, you can buy at any automotive relay you can buy the relay with base that has wires attached to it, it will be easier
The relay has 4 points
30 this is connected to your wire coming from switch
87 this is connected to your ballast power +
86 this is connected to fuse that is wired to your positive battery
85 this contact is grounded

this will solve your problems

Update: After I switched the bulbs around the problem did not change sides...it stayed on the drivers side. A couple days ago the bulb flickered longer than normal and eventually just went out. Any time I turned off the light and then back on the bulb would flicker, start to light up, then go dark. Yesterday I took out the full HID system and put in regular bulbs. Is it worth trying to find someone to figure out what is wrong with this system or just buy a new one? If that's the case I am back to NOkya 5000k bulbs. I am so sad.

i'm pretty sure its your ballasts. replace the ballasts and you should be good to go.
