BUMPER INTEGRATION POSTED

Hi Guys,

Here is the DIY to finally keep your fog lights with the OEM DTM Bumper.

Difficulty: 7
Time: around 10 Hours

What you need:

OEM DTM Bottom Grille
8E0 807 681 J Z9Y
8E0 807 682 J Z9Y

RS4 OEM Bottom Grille
8E0 807 681 E
8E0 807 682 E

The Tools:

Dremel + cutting tools
Sand Paper
Flat black paint
Knife
Fusor 143 + Gun

Here is a close up of the specific tools

Fusor 143
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P1.jpg

Dremel Cutting Tools
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P2.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P3.jpg

Start but cutting the mesh of the DTM grille
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P4.jpg

Remove the forward frame of the RS4 grille
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P5.jpg

Then, the rear upper part. Use the picture below as guide for the cut limit.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P6.jpg

The bottom part
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P7.jpg

The rear part
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P8.jpg

Now comes the most time consuming of the entire operation. You need to grind down the remaining of the mesh from the frame. Here is a close up of how he should look like
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P9.jpg

And after a good hour, it should look like this
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P10.jpg

Now you need to modify the rear of the grille
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P11.jpg

Look closely and you will see the trace I made on the back. The result wanted is an even contour
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P12.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P13.jpg

After more grinding and trimming, everything should look like this. Use sand paper to remove any mishap done with the Dremel
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P14.jpg

Now trim the contour of the RS4 grille using the picture as template
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P15.jpg

Note the indent done to the DTM frame to accept the fog housing of the RS4 grille
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P16.jpg

And everything now should fit like a glove
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P17.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P18.jpg

A picture from the back to show where I used the Fusor to secure both pieces (light gray)
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P19.jpg

I bought 2 new fog because mine where in pretty bad shape. All 3 attachment tabs on the fog light needs to be trimmed down flush. Because on the RS4 the fogs are attached to the bumper and the grille comes on top, I fused with the Fusor the fog to the grille. 2 coats of flat black and voila. I will install them tomorrow on the car and will let you know if trimming of the bumper is required
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/P20.jpg

Now the installation on the bumper.
Pretty straight forward. There is just a little bump that needs to be trimmed down on each side

area to be trimmed
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/IMG_5403Large.jpg

View from the back
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/fly300kts/DTM%20Fogs/IMG_5405Large.jpg

and looks pretty good to me. I just have to remove all the plastic dust and reinstall on the car

It's funny that you are starting this project, Sexican is thinking about getting the DTM bumper and I suggested RS4 grills and the trying to modify them since they look similiar. [:D]

They do and they don't:
The RS4 grille are apox. 1/2 inch wider but almost 1 inch longer. Should not be a big deal, I'll take care of that[:D]
Because I am too lazy to remove my fogs (removed the bumper too many times for the LEd V3 project), I ordered a new set of fogs that should arrive end of next week.
The curvature is almost the same

Someone needs to figure out how to get these or a variation of these fitted into the standard S-Line bumper without having to cut out the mesh and glue it to the original fog grille!

I can't talk for the S-line but for the DTM, I am planning to keep only the outter frame of the DTM grill and custom fit the RS4 into it

Phil...

Quick Question.

Do you use the same foglamp that was removed from the original bumper (in other words the OEM A4 B7 fog lamp) in the RS grille ?

Or do you need to buy the RS fogs seperately ?? If so, part numbers PLEASE ?

Thanks

But I'm stil interested to know which fogs was used in the RS grille...

* OEM RS fogs
* OEM S-Line
* OEM non S-Line (if different from S-Line)

???

Or maybe the RS fogs = S-Line fogs = non S-Line fogs ???

RS4 fogs:
8E0 941 699 B Left
8E0 941 700 B Right
Above parts are also used for A4s from 2002-2005 and RS4 only.
A4 fogs:
8E0941699C
8E0941700C
For cars from 2006-2008 the parts listed above are used but not in RS4, they are also used in Sline bumpers.

For more info just search www.audiwholesaleparts.com for these part numbers and it'll make more sense than I do [:D]

So Miki, the S-line fogs are NOT the same as teh RS4?

When I looked for RS4 fogs it gave me only these part numbers:
8E0 941 699 B Left
8E0 941 700 B Right

When I search for A4 fogs it gave me these numbers which are the same as RS4
8E0 941 699 B Left
8E0 941 700 B Right

and also the one that are made by Valeo with part numbers:
8E0941699C
8E0941700C

When I searched on audiwholesaleparts.com it said that B parts are only for cars from 2002-2005 and RS4 2006-2008 and then C parts are for 2006-2008 and also sline cars.

There is 2 different brand of fogs that where installed in 2005-5 this is why it's confusing

Cool.... But if you just "glue" the light to the grill, then it wouldn't rally matter which one of the two you use ? The fogs pretty much look the same except for the mountings (as you mentioned).

Not really, the one on the second picture are the one you need because of the location of the level adjustment screw

Ok...

But I'm 99.9 % sure that the ones I removed from my OEM non S-Line bumper are the same as those in the second pic... I'll just have to re-check.

I was thinking the same, but I think Phil's way is a lot easier. Besides, using the Dremel on the S-line fog grille will probably require some time to cut. Thats a lot of plastic. I'm using the OEM s-line fogs on the RS4 grille.

I saw your car at 1st Class, my Moro B6 was hit in the back :(, I thought it looked very good, and was wondering how you got the fogs done. Turns out that I may be getting a Dtm car and was wondering if the fog light wiring is already present in the car and just not utilized for the cars with the dtm kit? Also would you mind helping me with mine should I actually get the car. Thanks in advance.

Phil - Fiiiinally completed the fogs this past weekend. All I have to say is that you set the difficulty rating quite low lol. For the inexperienced (me), in order to get the fitment perfect, it took me around 20 hours to complete.

All in all it was definitely worth the time, thanks again for your write-up.
