Hi guys,
I just recently bought an 87 Audi 5000. This is my first venture into the German car market, just want something to burn around town in without breaking the bank. I actually like it a lot. The car does have a quirky thing I have noticed as I am driving(mostly at slow speed, virtually idling), there is a relay(assumption)clicking away wildly on and off repeatedly. Sometimes it's fast sometimes slow. The only thing I can seem to do in order to change it's frequency is to vary the throttle input. If I accelerate when it's clicking it seems to stop, but as I release the throttle, it returns randomly. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's related to the oxygen sensor, but I have no experience with these cars so I may be way off base. Maybe it's supposed to be doing this. Just strikes me that I must be on the verge of burning out this poor relay that's putting in overtime it seems.
Has anyone here had any experience with this type of issue with these cars? Any input appreciated.
Regards
Yukonr

Where is the noise coming from???There is (if its a turbo)a relay which has 2 plugs on the back of it, and its labeled VDO. This controls the idle stabilizer...sometimes it will make some noise. The heated seat relays will make similar nosies also. I have a TON of parts for these cars, if you need anything let me know.

Naw, not Jersey...Westren New York, as in Buffalo...The 5000 TQ's are a blast....but not the most reliable of autos...
