Ok, as I have been hogging up this board with posts the last few days, tonight I went to pick up my car. First off - many thanks to SBGirl who answered a lot of my questions and posting pics of the different steering wheels. The 4 spoke looks MUCH better in person than it did in the picture. Ok, enough of that....

1st impressions:
FAST!, INSANELY FAST!! - coming from a 328i and a 330i - I really couldn't visualize it being that much faster. WRONG x 1,000,000,000. How anyone can keep this car under the speed limit I'll never know. Tickets may become an issue.

Soft & comfortable Recaros. What sweet seats.

Rides much stiffer than my 330i. I'll have to get used to this. More time needed to decide if bad or good.

Easy to tell it's a heavier car.

Sideview mirrors are too small.

Too many knobs in the car (sunroof, heated seats, etc) Audi needs more push buttons.

Bright, bright red interior. Unbiased so far. Will need to get used to it.

FAST, FAST, FAST!!!

All in all seems to be a well made car. I definately have to move my soon to be 34 year old body into a real sport mode. This is my first V8 and clearly I need to grow with the car.

Well - those were my 15.7 miles of impressions. It's too cold and too late for anything else.

Can't wait for my weekend journal.

Chris

Congrats!
I didnt find the 4 spoke wheel all that bad after I got used to it either. Watch out for tickets and get a radar detector immediately. I think mine paid for itself within the first hour.

Congrats on the new purchase. It is a great car and you will definitely get used to the ride. I found it softened up after the first few thousand miles as well. Definitely snap some pics when you get a chance.

Congrats on the car - definitely an amazing car. You'll get used to the knobs though - after awhile they get much faster than push buttons.

Congrats on your new car! I'm glad you're enjoying it so far [:)]

and wait, did yuo say you have a RED interior? Really? I didn't know you could get that on the US-spec S4. Let's see it!

Let me jump on the bandwagon. I too picked up a B6 S4. Just got over my break in period and I've been very impressed. Coming from a WRX, I can tell a big difference in both response and overall power. Not to mention the improvement in the interior.

we had to settle for the 4 spoke too, and now we're actually happy we got that one cause we can control the radio.

it was that or wait months to get the 3 spoke w/ paddles. which was fun to testdrive, but i dunno.

we're happy.

No worries my friend. I still have the 330 and have been on E46 Fanatics for almost 4 years. I'm not leaving there. Although, I mostly stay in OT there anyways. [:D]

5K miles will be about a year for me. LOL.

I've had the car for 3 days now and have a grand total of 15.7 miles on it. I take mass transit to work each day and the car will be almost exclusively used on weekends only. (As that is really the only time I drive)

I can't wait until my loan is paid on the A4 (2 years), then I will definitley be getting into an S4. Until then I have to race around on my chipped '03 A4.

What power gains are you getting? Did you do anything in conjunction to the chip (exhaust, CAI, etc..)

I went with the GIAC chip and the AWE airfilter. GIAC claims 45 HP w/93 octane. BUt, I never did a dyno on the vehicle to get the true gains. I am looking at the Magnaflow exhaust that is currently being developed.

You can dial down the brightness of the interior lights. You'll beging to like the red interior, everyone that sees my ride ends up loving the night setup.

When I did that - the white dash dials seem tied in and also dimmed. In a perfect world, I could dim the red and not the white. Unless I missed that feature. Been so busy at work that I haven't looked at (yet alone driven) the car since I brought it home Tuesday night.

I like the Audi red more than the BMW orange.

The red numbers/words don't bother me - it's the ambient red. Int hat I mean, there is like a red shadow that leaks from the numbers. In my BMW, the black area is BLACK. In this car, it is a red tint.

Since I got to leave early today, I just had her out for about half an hour.

Have to bring it to the deale, as all radio stations are slightly fuzzy. With any number of CD's it's crystal clear. SO, I presume it's the antenna booster and not the speakers.

REALLY loving the Recaros. And the insane power. My Pirelli 240"s will be on next week - :)

Still trying to get used to the opposite auto tranny of the BMW. To go tiptronic in the 330i, I move it to the left (towards driver). Also, lower gears go up and higher gears down. Now, the S4 is reversed. Move to the right and Lower gears are towards back of car and higher gears towards front.

I know what you mean by the power - I came from an IS300, chipped A4, and now this. HOWEVER as with any car, you "kinda" get used to it after a while.

Cure: Drive around in an SUV for a few days, and then get back into the S4. Back to big ole smile again.

I was sort of concerned about the gas mileage. But when I behaved I got 17.8 combined city highway (which I am happy with). No pure highway driving but I would imagine better than 19. In stop and go traffic, I don't even want to talk about it. So as long as I know the car is "capable" of decent gas mileage, back to that 7k redline!

I can so second that...sometimes feel that the ride isn't really that fast then drive the X5 or worse yet, go out of town and drive a rental and then it all comes back as to why I got it.

:)
