A friend worked for decades running a shop called Gear Research here in Grand Rapids. He did everything from stock to drag cars to big rigs and know what it takes to make a gear that can take the shock without cracking or breaking and how to treat them to reduce friction, noise, and wear. He bought a machine shop in Muskegon a year ago and their work load has really slowed down. He asked if I had any ideas and immediately told him about the broken gears from the Audizine member's drag cars.
What I need are a few good gears and some that have been broken with a description of conditions when they broke. We're looking at price points around half what the OE gears are available for. Like maybe (guessing) under a grand for a set of three fully treated gears around twice the strength of stock. I can't have them made without parts to study and reverse engineer.
If you guys that are breaking gears want stronger options then send me some of those chunked up paperweights and I'll get them to Sig. He has a friend that has a $150k gear analyzer and a slow shop. We'll research how they made them and why they did it that way, the gear patterns, the ratios, the metallurgy, and everything else pertinent and get quotes for just what ratios you guys need.
This is not an advertising post since there are no products to sell. We're just looking to start some research in an effort to help you get down the track quicker with much greater peace of mind.
