I ordered a slave for my 97 a4 1.8t. The new one I received has a conventional, screw in hydraulic fitting. The one on the car seems to have the plastic quick release fitting. Are these interchangeable somehow? I'd like to know before taking the old one off and losing my car for a few days [:/]

They are not interchangeable. You need to replace it with a quick release version as is on the car.
