not in Ontario and Quebec. I think a couple of provinces they are legal but you would have to check with the laws in your area

they are legal out west, for sure in Alberta. Not legal in Ontario or Quebec. You have to go to the states to buy them as the companies out west won't ship them here.

I think it is a $500 fine and they take it away. I also herd they notify insurance companies that you had one as well....but that may not be true.

If it gets you out of a few tickets it could pay for itself very fast!

my friend uses one... hasn't had a problem and its been a year. He keeps an addressed envelope in his car that he would put the detector in if he gets pulled over (cops need a warrant to open mail)

I believe that whole mail thing is a myth. Yes they can't open it but it can be confescated so you're still screwed.

I know a few that have them, they've bought an old or broken one of eBay for dirt and keep it in the car, so if they do get nailed they hand that one over.

You have to be smart about it, and how you use it.

hmmm.......i'll be quite happy if they'r legal here, i'm in BC, so the VERY west

i think i'll check w/ the governement sometime soon, but i'm worried that even tho they say yes, they'll recommend a few brands that can't detect their radars, then it's still useless

they're legal. don't cheap out on one, get valentine or passport 8500. unless you like being 'alerted' that a mall is approaching

Yep - Legal in BC and Alberta as well as most states (certainly the ones out here in the west). I just moved from Ontario. Back there, I would use my Bel Vector 960 and keep a 20 dollar decoy in the glove box if pulled over. When I first moved to Ontario about 10 yrs ago I was pulled over b/c the gun detected my Cobra. Cop took it away and handed me a $375 ticket (not sure about current fines). As far as I know, nothing ever got forwarded to my insurance companies.

Now have the Vector hardwired via a fuse connection in the S4 - so far so good.
