It probably has a safety device built in where it won't play in drive. At least on the front nav screen. That's how my godfather's SRX is.

Actually there is a way. A dealer has done it. I believe you need a Vagcom cable and recode it.

Yeah I know that there is a way to reprogram it. However, I don't think there is any way to watvch a movie while moving while the Nav is stock

Any idea who it was, Ed? I've poked around the Q5 with VAG-COM and I haven't found anything yet.

"Notes: The main MMI 3G unit has to be sent to our head office!"

That sucks.

Tony, I believe it was Alex or someone else who posted it on Quattroworld or was it Audiworld in the Canadian section that is.

Edit: Here, take a look at this, it might help or not:

Got a headache after reading the 2nd page,

Thanks, Ed! I may try PMing this guy.

I remember Alex posting a picture of the DVD player in use, but it was not in motion if I recall. I'll PM him just to be sure.

FYI...I emailed Kufatec in the US to see what was involved with their retrofit.

Subject: TV / DVD in Motion - MMI 3G

------------------------------------------------------

Hi there,

I'm located in Canada and am very interested in the "TV/DVD in Motion" for
my Q5. First off, do you have any Canadian distributors/partners I should
be in contact with? If not, I'd like to know what components I need to send
to you and what you will be doing to the hardware (without giving away all
of your trade secrets.) No offense, but the product description is a little
vague.

Thanks,
Tony

Kufatec USA Inc. to me

Hello Tony,

At this time our US office is not capable of doing this retrofit.
We would have to send out your headunit to our Germany headquarters to have
them reprogram your head unit for this modification.

Regards,
Josh

[eek] No thanks!

A lot better than having to send in your head unit.

I bet this is just some software rewriting. Once you figure out stuff like this you can rack in tons of $$$.

This only works with nav equipped cars, correct?

Sorry I forgot to come back and post about this. I ended up getting in touch with Ladan (http://audiforum.us/members/ladan.html) from audiforum.us (http://audiforum.us/) and went ahead and had him "unlock" the MMI so DVD video will be displayed while the car is in motion. I admit I was a little uneasy about sending a stranger money, giving him access to my computer and my Q5's ECU and then having him program it from 15000 kilometres away...but this guy is totally legit! He has a wealth of knowledge (a lot of it is posted free on his website (http://www.audi-portal.com/en/)) and definitely knows what he is doing with it.

Basically the maximum speed at which the video will be displayed needs to be adjusted. It's a simple adaptation, but it's in a pass code protected area of the ECU. Ladan has developed a program to extract the pass code from the ECU and then makes the adaptation change.

He uses a remote access program called TeamViewer (http://www.teamviewer.com/) that is downloaded for free. It's easily removable as it doesn't actually install anywhere. Control of your computer is random password protected and controlled by you, the host. At any time you can disconnect. He also has Skype running so you can ask questions and follow along.

From there he uses VCDS and VAG-COM to first get a little information from the chassis and MMI unit to determine the pass code needed. Once he has that he makes the adaptation change and you are now able to play DVD's and view the MMI display while moving.

I'm also curious to know if this will work in non-Nav equipped cars. [confused]

I believe the non-NAV (Symphony radio & Concert radio) equipped cars only have a CD player in the dash, not a DVD player. In that case, the mod I had done would not work for those cars.

You could try something like this: http://kufatec.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_160&products_id=1037

Im curious...I have a stock MMI Nav on my B7 s4. year model 2005.5. Now, is this MMI the same type (2g) that can be unlocked by them?

The DVD drive in your head unit will only read DVD-ROM. You can however, get something like this to add to the unit: http://kufatec.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_65&products_id=290
