OK so I've gotten a good number of PM's asking about the bulbs needed to light up the interior of our cars, so I thought I might as well make this! I've seen quite a few of these threads, and I hate to repost, but honestly none of them seem to have the correct info readily available.

Here are the lights you need and their functions:

x10 WLED 5-LED Wide Angle LED bulb- (Glovebox, footwells, under doors, and trunk)
x4 BA9s 4-LED Bayonet Base bulb -(map lights front/back)
x2 3910 6-LED Festoon bulb (vanity mirrors)
x2 4211 6-LED Festoon bulb (dome lights)

(If you want to get the license plate bulbs, go here (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202249&highlight=license+plate+lights), since I don't know much about that..)

To get these, I went to Super Bright LEDs (http://superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR). Total it should cost only about $37 so please don't buy any kits for $100+.. Any site selling LEDs should work, this just happens to be the one I used and it works great. You can find all the lights you need at the pages under that link.
Installation is pretty easy, all you need is a flathead screwdriver to help you pop covers off. (I'll post basic pictures of this later as well if needed)

WHITE LIGHTS
Read Me (http://www.superbrightleds.com/compcool_warm.htm) for the different white lighting

Natural White (Right/Bottom dome light) and Cool White (Left/Top dome light):
(btw the map lights are still the stock white bulbs)

RED LIGHTS
My camera isn't very accurate though and it sort of amplified the red? Its like these pictures but not as bright at all.. But anyway still a pretty good reference of the look..

which 194 bulbs did you use the:WLED-x5 LED Wide Angle LED bulb (cost 2.99)

or the:WLED-xHP5 Wedge Base Bulb (cost 5.95) i think these one's would be too long to actually fit

It looks sick and I would definitely go for it [up] (again I'll get pictures of how red LEDs look soon)

Does that mean you got 2, 3910's and 2, 4211's or all 4, 3910's?

Its just a personal choice, I especially like it cause my car is red..but a word of warning: you won't be able to use the lights to see...[>_<] thats why I kept my vanity mirror lights white just in case. Also for anyone who does white, keep me updated (so I can add that to this thread) on what white's you went with cause there's some confusion as to what whites are the same

ya, when/if i get to do this, i would probably do the footwells red and maybe the front map lights and then leave the rear map lights, dome lights and vanity lights white that way i still have the function of being able to read in case i need to!

I wouldn't recommend mixing and matching that much. When you open the doors, the map lights, dome lights, and footwells come on, and a mix wouldn't look good.. When I first got lights, I didn't get the footwells, and it looked bad, so I ordered the rest of the lights and made everything the same. Another option you have is to get the flashlight that plugs into the cigarette lighter slot which is like $20 max..

Oh didn't realize you were looking for a reply ha. I mean I'm using them and I'm pretty sure everyone who has done this is using them. They work well I mean they are pretty bright for being red and from what I hear they last long, and definitely outlast the OEM bulbs..

I just ordered the cool whites, when I get them I'll work on getting some pictures. It may be a bit as I'm working the next couple weeks straight though :/ I don't think the WLED gave me a choice of cool white though...we'll see.

Yeah some of the lights only have one white option, while others have more. It'd be awesome if you could post those here so I can make a list of the different colors for reference for people. [up]

If you can't get pictures that's fine, i know it was hard for me to get decent pictures and they don't even do real justice. At least just hit me up with how well the colors match

the kit is only 37 bucks if you order the red WLED-x4 LED bulb

not the wide angle 5-led one

i might order the 4 LED ones , the lense will disperse the light anyway

After seeing that, I think I might exchange my cool whites for some natural whites (for functionality sake).
I assumed the cool whites would be in the 4000K-5000K range.

From seeing the Ziza city lights in person, I would bet the cool whites would match them the best. The ziza city lights are slightly more bluish-white then the stock xenon bulbs which are 4300K. So the ziza lights are probably somewhere between the 5500K - 10000K range.

pw211, thanks for the update on the different colored whites. I got a cool white and a natural white in my batch for the dome lights. I like the look of the natural white better but I didn't get the map light bulbs yet. Both bulbs in together seem to light up the car about the same but the cool white LEDs look brighter and definitely more blue. I did get cool white lights for the vanity mirror lights and they didn't seem to look as blue as the 6 LED bulb did.

This is the two different whites, exposure notched down a bit to show the difference in colors. That's actually pretty close to how it looks in person as well.
http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu35/72mako/May2009005.jpg

Here's the light output from them, again, exposure adjusted to come as close to how it really looks to the eye as I could (I'm no expert with a camera though). Also, as I mentioned, the map lights aren't done so it's not a perfect indication.

awesome, i appreciate that, I'll add those to the OP. which one is which? And are those map lights already replaced by LED's??

72mako
05-03-2009, 08:24 PM
The one on the left looks like the cool white, and the one on the right I believe is the natural white...there was a mix up in the shipping apparently. I've removed them already since it's a little obvious. No, map lights aren't replaced yet. Will do those in the next round...probably order the rest tomorrow. Do you know if there would be any problem with using the HP 5LED wedge bulb instead of the regular wide angle 5LED bulb?

dblock110
05-03-2009, 08:33 PM
order the 4-LED bulb . its a lot cheaper wen ordering 10 bulbs, no need to go wide angle as the lens will disperse the light anyway

and y are u orderding individually lol . u wasting alot on shipping costs .

u could have ordered the entire set, in white, with the 4-led ones, for 57 shipped

I wasn't intending on replacing the map lights or the rear footwells, however it was too much contrast and I didn't realize the map lights came on with the domes. So I'm doing a second batch to finish this off to keep the flow. :)

hey guys, i did this yesterday and had a few comments and questions.

overall, the lights are sweet and shipping was very prompt. i ordered them friday morning and got them tuesday. putting them in was no problem. i put in the red lights which look great. from the outside, they're not as bright as i thought they would be, but they look awesome when you're inside. that being said, they're not very practical, but who cares? life is short.

there were also a few things i was wondering. on the superbrightleds website, there is a 32- and 90-degree viewing angle option for the ba9's (map lights). when they say 90 degrees, does that mean the bulbs would be pointing down in a horizontal socket (like an L shape)? and would it make more sense to use the 1-led bulb (http://www.superbrightleds.com/store/html/images/ba9-w.jpg)? the way it is now, the bulbs are pointing straight when the target is down, so i feel like i'm not getting an optimal amount of light.

thanks to pw211 for this writeup. props. [up]

I have a 2006 A4 and purchased the following for the map lights from SuperBrightLEDS.com

120VAC White LED BA9s bulb

The lights come on, but barely any light is put out. The lights I had in before worked fine so I know it is not the socket. Did I use the correct lights? IF so does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

arbaz: glad you like em, but I'm not entirely sure about the 90 degree thing.

Mbutler: When the car is not on, the lights won't come on very brightly. For whatever reason, it has to be on for the lights to work to their full brightness.

Sorry for the late replies guys, I never caught this thread when it was brought back.

The Superbright lights just don't look that "superbright" and everyone's talking about how they light up well, but not enough for reading any maps. Also, it's $65 for all the bulbs you mentioned, and an additional $45 with the courtesy lights, which I don't think your setup included?

Not nay saying, I'm just sayin'. I do appreciate the work you put into this.

Based on what tankdeer just said, you want 12V. I'm no sure why they don't have natural light, it might be a lack of stock, but I'm sure you can google search and find a site with the same stuff.

whats your preference, cool white or natural white? is the picture decievingly bluer then in real life?

tankdeer
01-25-2011, 04:15 PM
Personally I like the natural the best, but the cool isn't bad either. To me the warm is a little too warm, if that makes sense. It just seems too close to a normal bulb and therefore doesn't justify the upgrade IMO. While that is not my photo, that does look bluer than they actually are. The natural white is about the same color as the B8's LEDs, whereas the cool white is closer to some aftermarket HID bulbs, probably about 6000k or so

Guys I have been putting together kits for B5 and B6 cars and at the moment I am in the process of testing B7 cars and seeing if bulbs will throw any warning message.
I have a friend who just bought a 2006 A4 so I will be testing on that car.
B5 cars tested no error message and B6 cars tested no error message.
Lets cross fingers for B7 cars now because if the results come out positive I will have complete kits available for you , including licence plate bulbs.
