TrueDelta reports absolute repair rates that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, to report on new models quickly and track cars closely as they age.

Thanks partly to the help of this forums members, we currently provide results for the A3, A4, A6, and Q7. We'd like to also cover the Q5--just a matter of how quickly owners sign up to provide the necessary data.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the Q5 and Q7, free of charge.

Not enough Q5s signed up yet to include them in the survey. Hopefully soon.

For the Q7 we've just updated survey results to include owner experiences through March 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008: 79, about average, but very small sample size

2007: 101, worse than average

A big thanks to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

The Q5 has been added to the survey. Might have an initial result in November.

For the Q7 we've just updated survey results to include owner experiences through June 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008: 56, about average, but very small sample size

2007: 96, worse than average

A big thanks, once again, to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

Updated results for the Q7 next month. It looks like we'll have an initial result for the Q5 with the following update, in February.

Additional participants remain needed for both models, all model years. We're going to start providing new stats for the odds of requiring no repairs and the odds of getting a lemon, and these require larger sample sizes.

Both are now about average. Small sample size for the 2008.

A big thanks, once again, to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in February and May. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

To provide an additional benefit, I recently enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record.

As always, more participants would be helpful. Updated Car Reliability Survey results in May.

We have an updated reliability stat for the Audi Q5 based on owner experiences through June 30, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the more recent months until the summer or even fall of next year.

With a reported repair rate of 80 repair trips per 100 cars per year, the 2009-2010 Q5 remains about average, but is drifting toward "worse than average."

With reported repair rates in the 70s, the 2007 and 2008 are both about average.

Thank you, once again, everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in November and February. The more owners participate, the better then information we can provide.

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Also, updated reliability stats this month.

As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

Michael - do you have any data on what the specific issues with the Q5 are? I'm quite surprised that of the new B8 platform cars (A5/A4/Q5), it's the Q5 that has been getting slammed in reliability surveys. Considering that it's essentially a jacked up A4 I'm curious as to the major problems people are encountering.

We post all reported repairs on the site in the repair histories section (link in reliability box on the homepage). I've got to run right now, or I'd look into it.

Dear sirs.
Over in this part of the world, we continue to hear about excessive engine oil consumption (up to 1 liter per 2,000km) for the Audi Q5. This is ridiculous for a brand new car to behave... anyone have such an experience? The local dealer merely replaces the pistons.
