And the S6 and S8 has 40 & 60. Different ECU/rockers/cams whatever.

ok what exactly deems this to be put in the chatterbox and not the regular section? i would say chatter box be good for talking about t shirts and pictures of different cars, maybe a newly released tv show or a move etc.. i asked a mechanical question on the difference between two similar motors, why is that not appropriate for the normal a6 s6 section?

ahh i see.. thanks man, just wasnt sure.. and it would be really expensive to do those kinds of upgrades to the a6 v8.. new cams or ecu.. plus the stuff to go with it tuning wise or whatever.. gets wayy deeper then my pockets go[wrench]

Probably $15,000 deeper. Might be best to just do an engine swap. Saw the post of the guy who did the 6spd transplant on his 4.2, and thought he had gotten an S8 or S6 motor? Or thought he got a better drive ratio or torque split than what he actually did. Got hosed on the deal-miscommunication.

You guys forget about two small details that play a factor in the difference in the C5 4.2 and the A8 4.2
1) The A8 is a lot bigger and wider so it allows for better packaging of the motor...more directly the exhaust is able to be given a more free-flowing bend vs having to be more cramped in the A6 nose.
2) The A8 also uses the FSI injection system. So it shoots fuel directly into the combustion chamber instead of behind a valve that then has to either use gravity or compression to suck the fuel/air mixture into the cylinder. Plus this also allows for higher compression ratios.

Nice. Also this shouldn't be in the chatterbox because it's about car engines and stuff and it is a question. If it was I couldn't give Kemer rep for his post [:)]

I think he was meaning the pre FSI engines. The new ones still don't make much more HP,
300HP A6 vs 310-340-360HP A8/S6/S8-'00-'03. 2004-06 make 335, '07 350HP. And yeah, the ECU has mappings for higher air intake for exhaust.
Won't feel the 10hp diff anyway.
But get a chip and a custom free flowing exhaut to get a few more ponies and better throttle response.

gigi, i have no resonators in my exhaust as the preveious owner had them removed, and i just bought a set of magnaflow mufflers, im going for a deep rumble not a loud sound.. what size piping would you reccommend from the cats back? 2 1/2?
2 1/2 is common, I wouldn't go over 3 or you may decrease performance.
Heard the chip does make the throttle response crisper though it only adds 12-15 ponies but am no expert. If you have a tip, you could get VAST stage 3 tip chip and their ECU tune too, heard they both do wonders to the 4.2

hmm.. maybe ill look into that.. the throttle response may be better in its self, ik awe has a tip chip that people claim "makes the car shift like a superbike"

Superbike:) no way! actually someone with a S4 did test with and without the GIAC TIP chip and found no noticable acceleraqtion gain.
Not sure myself, but never heard really complelling stories for it.
I did hear great things on the VAST Tip and ECU chips from A6 4.2 owners, I think they ahve a Video on their site. CHeck it out and definitely call Kurt to ask him details on how the tip chip works... they are great for cust servioce
