Hey guys,
I'm new here. I have a quick question about the S4 w/ tiptronic fuel economy. Before you guys say anything about if you can afford the gas than don't get the car... I can afford the car, and the gas. [;)]
I've been hearding from a few sources in general, the S4 has some bad fuel economy numbers. I've also noticed that most of the people who comment seem to be driving a manual 6speed. I'm wondering what you guys that drive the tip are getting? How many MPG city/hwy, and how many miles per tank on average.
Thanks,
Pete[:D]

well, first of all welcome to the forum! it sounds like you are thinking about purchasing an s4 in the near future.
I drive a 6-speed so I guess I can't comment on the tip's mileage, but I imagine there are a lot of other differences between the manual and tip that would be higher on the list.

I have the tip and I average about 14 MPG. On the highway I get 16-18 around town 12. Let me know if you have any other questions.

JetBlue,
Do you have a heavy right foot?
The reason I ask is that I want the S4, but I would be sharing the car with my girlfriend, who happens to be a little bit of a tree hugger (not too bad). She doesn't want to buy a car that gets horrible gas mileage. The car we are replacing is a 2002 Lexus IS300, which isn' t too great on gas either (200 -250 miles per tank around town). I just want a little basis for comparison.

I have a trip on my cab.
City..I am getting about 17
Hwy..I am getting about 21 actually.
This is ALL stock mind you.
I tend to drive it a little conservative during the week.
Weekend is when the pedal goes down. :)

Nice!
Man... you guys that get 12 MPG around town must be getting every pennys worth out of the car.
I have a '04 Z06, and get around 13 MPG around town, when I beat the snot out of the car. I know I'm getting my moneys worth. :D

I definitely drive hard. I am always in sport mode and I turn off ESP as soon as I start the car. Cappy's gas milage is probably closer to what most people will see. I am lucky that my company pays for all my gas!

11-12 in sport mode, dips into 8-9 at the track, 14-15 city in d, low 20's in d on the highway(which sorta surprised me)
once this car gets above 2500 it just eats up the gas

i drive one way local to work and return on the freeway. the monitor has been consistently at 17.8 mpg....
I drive the tip ..
Daily i go from 4000 feet down to 2000 feet and back up .. about 21 miles .. i average daily almost exactly 20mpg. The road is a slow steady one lane (each way) highway ..
when i'm riding highway on flat land .. califronia valleys .. i get about 24 or 25 mpg ....
when in SF .. i get considerably worse .. mainly becuase of the stop lights and the stop and go and more aggressive driving tone of the city. i get probaly between 12 and 14 on a good day.
My driving manner is such that i get spirited occassionally and at very specific times / moods .. but mostly i cruise and keep my gears as high as possible ..
i mean for christ's sake .. gas out here is like $2.75 gallon.
Hope that helps ... get the car .. you'll love it .. feels great to have such a machine at your disposal ... and yes other cars have better numbers .. but most drivers ..well aren't good drivers and end up losing .if your skillz are right .. bm 7(s) .. clk(s) .. i've embarrassed them all ... though it tweren't easy ..

Thanks for the replies guys.
I'm trying to find some time to take a test drive, even though I know I'll like it. :D
MAKE SURE THEY TAKE YOU ON THE HIGHWAY SO YOU CAN SEE HOW FAST IT GETS TO 150MPH .. (OR MAYBE NOT .. JUST TRUST THAT IT GETS THERE IN A HURRY *SMILE*)
AND SOME WINDY ROADS .. IT HANDLES VERY NICE ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING WHERE THE WEIGHT IS IN THE CAR .
OK ENUFF TALKING FOR ME .. I SHOULD GET TO WORK ..
