These lights blinked during a trip a few weeks ago. Plus the "beeeeep" sounded. Now, tonight, the lights came and STAYED on! Any ideas as to what this is? My brake fluid level is full and I recently flushed out the old fluid. THe braked perform fine. I have not tried to activate the ABS by stomping on the pedal. I just hope that it's a simple, inexpensive fix. I just hope that it's not the ABS computer![eek]

Have you had the car checked? Or has the problem not reoccured? If you still see the brake and abs lights you likely have an abs problem and the rear wheels could lock up under heavy braking. Be sure and check your owner's manual, but I believe it recommends you have the car towed, or if driving, you should drive slowly to a repair station and begin braking very early avoiding panic stops. Good luck and be safe...

How did you flush the old fluid? Did you use a VAG tool or vacuum pump? Or did you just pump the brakes and bleed out thru the caliper bleeder valves?

If you did the last mentioned method, you may have blown out the seals on your brake master cylinder.

Sounds like ABS control unit. More often than not that is the issue with this sort of behavior.
Good luck.

Check the fuse for the ABS first. I know it sounds simple and lame, but I had an A4 that had a brake sensor problem that made the ABS go on every time I stopped. I took the fuse out to disable the ABS and both the ABS and Brake lights stayed on. Maybe it's a fuse. That would be cool. If not then sensor or ABS control unit.

it is ure abs controller module. very common problem. how many miles do you have? i have this problem also....you can get a new controller for about 1000 at dealership or have it rebuilt for about 350 with a 5 year warranty.

The dealer diagnosed the issue as an electrical short. But they'ed have to track it down which could be costly. The car has 160K miles on it. The brakes still seem to perform normally. I have yet to check out all ABS sensors at each wheel.

Thank you to those who have offered suggestions and advice.
