I have been officially hooked on HPDE's.[race] This year I have decided to set up the car as a track car, and remove all unnecessary parts. This includes a diet, and some upgrades to make the car a stronger track car.
This build isn't as big as some of yours, but I thought it would be interesting, and hope for some input from all of you.
First off is my coilovers, they have been on the car for years, and the spring perch's are frozen on. I ordered new parts from H&R Germany including bump stops. I also ordered the 034 upper strut mounts. These aren't the perfect track coilovers, but this is a logical step as far as my budget goes. Now I will be able to corner weigh the car and also sell them as a good used part when I do upgrade.
Next off are the control arms. After much thought on this I decided to go with the 034 full arm kit with the spherical lower control arms. I wanted adjustable uppers, but the Stern arms still use rubber inner. I figure I would wait for the 034 uppers to come out.
Brakes, I upgraded the rears to B7 S4 with the 034 kit last year. The fronts have been Wilwood 4 pots with 13" two piece rotors for some time. My original intention was to order a rebuild kit for them, but after talking to Wilwood tech help, I changed to 1.75" pistons at only $113 each. This should help with the bias issue I have had.
While spending with 034, I also ordered the rear diff carrier mounts and Apikol mount.
For weight savings I stripped the carpet and entire sunroof.. I removed the stereo harness from the system I had years ago, as well as the factory Bose harness, phone harness and airbag harness. these are all separate and easy to find and pull out. I lost the use of the airbags years ago when I want with aftermarket seats. Yes I could have put resistors on those wires and fool the system, but feel I don't need it. I also pulled the airbag computer and passenger side airbag.
I made a negative mold of the factory sunroof out of fiberglass, then filled it with fiberglass sheets to build an insert. After several days of hard labor and about $100 worth of materials, I find the Fiber Images carbon insert for $275. Now to convince my wife to up my budget.[>_<] I have a good 3/4 of my fiberglass one done if all fails.
To add weight back in I ordered the Auto power "track" roll bar. This includes a harness mount, so I don't have to run the harness to the rear seat area any more. Rear seats are gone.
I modified the seat brackets to help stiffen them up, and also move them forward. I bolted them in with all grade 8 hardware.
For power, this year all I did was upgrade my PC-16 file to flash, and add the race fuel file. As some of us already know, its not just power on the track, its keeping momentum, and these upgrades should help with that.
these are crappy Iphone pics but it was the easiest thing at the time.
