So I went to Columbus, OH today just to do some shopping.
Parked at a meter and paid for 2 hours.

Came back in an hour and a half, and got a parking violation on the windshield...for, get this: not displaying my front plate.

Wtf?

Since when do the "Green Onions" issue a parking ticket for missing front plates?

I didn't get a ticket for time expiration, or parking in a red zone, or any illegal "parking" related issue, but cause my front plate wasn't there?

My rear plate is clearly visible, all stickers up to date, and this anal-retentive asswipe of a parking officer writes me a ticket for not displaying my front plate!

He/She was lucky I wasn't there when they wrote the ticket, I would have shoved it up their...well, where the sun don't shine.

Talk about being hard up for money...a warning, I would understand.

Guess this economy is hitting everyone worse than I thought.

Time to write a letter disputing the charge regarding my plate falling off while driving 2+ hours to Columbus for the day...what luck!

What would you guys do?

Yeah, I live in Columbus Ohio, Front plates are required. Sucks =/

Sadly my A6 isn't drilled for a front plate, and I'm not going to do so myself! lol

that and I have 15% tint all around, and 50% is the legal limit on the drivers/passengers side windows =/

Man, I only drove down to Columbus from Cleveland for the day trip with the wife.

I haven't had any issues up here at all with no front plate for almost 2 years, and the one time I go to Columbus I get hit with it.

And it was from a parking ticket officer, not a regular street cop. That's perhaps why I feel kind of cheated.

And that Gem and Jewellery Show by the COSI wasn't worth the trip.

Easton Town Center was great though...huge outdoor mall...enough pretty things to look at while the other half is shopping.

Lol...

I remember when I got a ticket for no front plate when I was eating at a nice restaurant in downtown Chicago. I was kinda pissed off too. I mean what kind of asshole cop/parking cop/whatever writes a ticket for something that is against the law [rolleyes]? You know what I did to show them how angy I was? I paid the ticket and put my front plate back on. It's amazing now, for 4 years I haven't had to worry about getting a ticket for that.

The economy? C'mon man, you can't be serious. Maybe you should threaten the person that did it again in your letter when you write it, just like you did here? I would pay the ticket and stop crying. You broke the law. Be an adult and deal with it.

You've never got a speeding ticket reduced/revoked or just a warning because either you gave a reasonable explanation or the cop never showed up at the trial?

At any time have you gone to the parking office to pay an extra dollar because you or someone you know parked for free an extra 20 minutes at the meter and wasn't ticketed for it?

Never asked for a break in any situation?

Your insults are somewhat inappropriate and surprising. When you received your "no-front plate" ticket, you weren't upset at all? I mean, of all the things you could be ticketed for, "no front plate" was what was cited and you felt that was reasonable?

This is not about being an adult. It's about people exercising appropriate judgment regarding the extent to which laws should be applied, and the consideration provided for each situation.

How many parking officers do you know of that walk around each and every car checking for plates, broken tail lights, etc.?

Should they also check all your mods to ensure they meet DOT regulations?

Most typically walk and check the meter, if it's green and paid, they move on.

If every parking officer performed their duties in exactly the same manner, then undoubtedly everyone would try to avoid situations when tickets were commonly handed out, including violations for no front plate.

My point was simply to express concern that perhaps this parking officer's strict application of the Ohio law (and displaying both plates is not the law in every state) was a little overzealous. A notice stating, "Warning: Next time you'll be ticketed for not displaying your front plate in Ohio" would have been sufficient.

That would have shown that although there is a possibility that there was a good reason that the front plate was not attached (like it fell off during the drive down the 71 to Columbus), it is still a violation in Ohio such that I would need to remedy it lest I get ticketed for it next time.

Gets the point across rather nicely, and without incurring contempt for either party. And the officer is still performing their duties as required. This shoot-first, ask-questions-later mentality doesn't seem to me to be the best way to conduct oneself in a civilized society.

But I'm glad that you, Stampy live your life so righteously and are legitimately certified to judge someone as an adult or otherwise.

Perhaps Obama missed the mark in appointing someone else Attorney General.

You should write your Congressman about it. When it's approved, pass it around and I'll sign the petition.

Cheers.

It's funny how we all get pissed when we get a ticket for something wrong that we did, but like Stampy says, just suck it up and move on.

Yep, it was totally my fault that the front plate fell off during the drive down from Cleveland to Columbus. I should have secured it more tightly than just using a store-bought front plate holder and the provided screws.

I didn't even notice it missing until I read the ticket.

I guess some people would have advocated to return back to Cleveland for 2 1/2 hours, and then drive back down to Columbus for another 2 1/2 hours while looking for my plate on the road, shoulder, or median area wherever it may have ended up, re-attach the front plate and then try to enjoy what was left of the day in Columbus before driving back 2 1/2 hours at night so that I could be a law-abiding adult.

Staying overnight wasn't an option due to commitments the next day.

But it's all good. I just wanted to see if anyone else had run into the same situation and how they dealt with it. Wasn't looking for any type of character judgment, even though one was provided.

What's funny is that Stampy felt compelled to respond somewhat sarcastically.

He could have just said, "Yeah, that happened to me. I just paid the ticket, re-attached the front plate and called it a day. Sucks because our cars look a lot better without the front plate. But oh well, can't always get away with it."

But perhaps it made him feel better about himself to insult me.

If so, then great. I did my good deed for that day.

I mean call me crazy, but you do state that you have been knowingly breaking the law for 2 years right? Now you are trying to portray yourself as a victim to some petty parking cop, that is obviously below you in your world.

I was 23 when I got that ticket for that. I was angry that night. I was angry at myself because I knew it would eventually happen. I was able to act like an adult and take the blame. Maybe you should consider blaming the person staring back at you in the mirror. That person probably is never wrong though in your world...

I have two cars. Hence...ah, you're big enough to draw a conclusion from that.

And although you're trying to showcase some sort of maturity by advising me to blame myself for this incident, let's review this shall we?

I have two cars. One with front and rear plates. One without.

I drive the one with both plates to Columbus, lose one plate and get ticketed.

Yet throughout the past 2 years approximately, I've driven the one with only one plate daily for work and not been ticketed at all.

Do I blame myself for driving the car off which the plate fell? Or should I blame myself for not driving the lucky car with only one plate that hasn't been ticketed?

Your statements of "growing up" or "be an adult" are more akin to something you should teach your kids at home (if you have any), rather than an "adult" forum where members look to each other for assistance and support for common, or even uncommon concerns regarding their vehicles.

Nobody is on this forum looking to be insulted or taught a lesson that their upbringing hasn't already introduced to them.

I'm sure none of the threads you've ever started were meant to invite the response you provided here. So why respond as you did?

If you didn't have anything positive or supportive to state in a manner that allowed us to maintain a "friendly" environment for discussion, why post at all?

I don't know you, nor do you know me. At least not enough for me to dictate to you what you should do to be an "adult."

Maybe you just had a bad day and accidentally used this opportunity to vent on someone. We all need an outlet sometimes to release some frustration. So, I've no hard feelings about what you did in this case.

But I do have one question: Do sarcastic statements and insulting someone on a public forum constitute a requirement for being an adult?

I didn't think so.

Cheers.

You win. You are better than me and everyone else. I'm out of your thread about how your feel you are above the law. I'm sorry for offending you so deeply. I only hope that our younger readers will learn from this. Hopefully they will now blame everyone else for things that they did too, and realize that the law only applies to certain people..

Cheers

Apology accepted.

Just to clarify, I've not made any reference to being above the law or otherwise. That was strictly your doing. If anyone has attempted to infer any type of hierarchy, it was you with your hasty determination that I was not being an "adult." Or do you not see that, being the "adult" above us lesser "wannabe" grownups?

In any case, good luck to you in your quest to continue expressing how much more mature you are in comparison to the rest of us. I'm sure you'll win many more friends as a result of your superior demeanor.

Cheers.

Yeah easton is GREAT for that! lol I was kinda let down when they made it a town center and not a shopping mall like originally planned, the winters around here SUCK for shopping there!

I'm just counting the days till my first plate ticket, I know it's coming... it's just a matter of when.. I'll pay it, knowing I should have put it on in the first place =)

Any takers on what I'll get a ticket for first? Tint or front plate?

I actually was pulled over for speeding in Circleville... the cop asked me to roll all my windows down to see inside the car, I wasn't trying to hide anything so I had no problems complying. That and he wasn't being a dick about it... and technically I was breaking the law (Speed and tint)

He just wrote me a ticket for the speed and let me go, didn't mention the tint.

As for the eye candy, you should stop by my work... it's a Large Retail company, nothing but girls clothes, and I work at the Home office.

the ratio is 1guy per 5girls... and 90% of the girls are HOT! lol

My wife wouldn't like it so much if I came to visit.

But looking doesn't really break any vows, does it?

Lucky you, to have choices. It's a lot different when you're married.

Well, actually you just have to be more careful. Lol.

Columbus has a lot more scenery than Cleveland, I must admit. Probably just cause The OSU is there. All I remember from visiting is a lot of head-snapping left and right while walking around.

Btw, where do you go to get work done on your car? Stealership, or do you know of a reputable shop somewhere around your area that does great work and is reasonable?

I can't seem to find a good, reputable Audi certified tech outside of the dealerships here in Cleveland. The ones I have been referred to are either outrageously priced, or their work is less than stellar.
