I don't know if I'm the only one... or if I'm missing another DC power point in my car... but that's one thing that sucks. The detector wire hits my hand while I'm shifting. So I'm going to hardwire it. Have any of you done that? Is it hard? Any thoughts? And while I'm at it... is that lighter in the console the only one in the entire car? I just got out of a Sequioa (BIG difference) and I could have my cell phone, my laptop, my Valentine One... all plugged in with an extra spot for a passenger to plug his cell into as well. Having just one sucks.

I believe Carson hardwired his V1 from the overhead lights, if I remember correctly.

I was told to take the power from the sunroof, but you need to choose either using switched power or always on. There is enough voltage to tap it.
I just ordered my V1 on Friday. I want to do mine as well.

if you have homelink
http://home.comcast.net/~carson0627/V1/Howtov1.htm
or you can just run the wire from the fuse box. Use the one that's for the review mirror.

That's freakin' amazing that I can ask a question and somebody has a web page just for it... and I've got Homelink. I love you guys.

ok I know the V1 is supposed to be the best around, but are there any alternatives that aren't dash/window mounted? or is it that none of the built-ins have rear facing detectors?
BTW thats an awesome site carson, thanks!

S4arch, no there are not. The height of where the Valentine sits in the car is the best for coverage. I researched for months before I bought mine.

Ok I did the install last night, I kinda ghetto'd it a bit. I was able to get everything in without any issues. But I could not find a good place to mount the ground, so I have it mounted to one of the light covers screws under the cover, so it is slightly hanging down. I need to pick up a self tapping screw and put in a new hole.

Cool, there is also some updates to turn x-band off and to increase the sensativity of KA.

There is only 1 alternative to window mounted radar detectors that I know of. The only one I know if is the K40 system. The K40 system can have a front and rear mounted detector and you can also add on a laser diffuser to the system. The system from K40 is called the Undetectable Dual or Single, meaning dual sensors (one in rear one in front grill) or Single (believe to be front only). The site is www.k40.com check thier stuff out, it is expensive though.

please post some pics, im really intrested in seeing what you did.
Here is the setup I did on my RS6. I've done the same sort of thing on a couple of B5 S4 vehicles, so I think the B6 S4 could be similar.
Check setup with images here (http://www.htms.org/v1.html)
