Hey guys whats up, I really like the new S4, I currently own a 01 E46 M3 and i really like it but i think i want a S4, my

Questions are
there any problems with the new S4 or any recalls?????????? I have been through a lot of B.S. recalls with the M3 and I am sick of it!,

Also are there any problems with the S4, If i get this car I am planning on keeping it a long time so will it be reliable for the long run???

I don't know much about the Audi's so any info would be great, also are there any former M3 owners here that could recommend the S4

Is the gas milage really that bad i currently get low 20's with the M3 could i get that with the S4??????????

how many times can you launch the car on the stock clutch, and are there any good clutches out?????????????
Thanks

Kevin

To answer your questions:

I have had no problems with my S4 or recalls of any kind.

As for reliability, this motor is not nearly as stressed as the M3. It is ubiquitous throughout the line (S4, A6, S6 w/Twin Turbo, Allroad, A8) so the reliability needs to be there.

There are a lot of former E46 M3 owners here that could give you a good comparison. If you look through the posts below there was one recently. The cars are very different though.

The gas milage is not pretty. I drive around town a lot and get 13 MPG. On the highway I see about 18. As for launches, it would be very hard on the car as you need to slip the clutch A LOT since it is 4WD. It is not really designed for 0-60, but more for 5-60.

I was looking to buy an M3 when I got the S4. Overall I liked the interior much better and thought it was more suited for day to day driving than the M3.

I had an '04 E46 M3 (BBS LM wheels, ground control full double adjustable suspension, Borla exhaust) and got rid of it a couple of months ago and just bought a 2005 S4. I haven't really opened it up yet but I like it so far. They are just really different cars. S4 is a lot smoother and seems to be a lot more powerful in the low end and driving around town. I am not necessarily saying it is better, again they are different, but I needed something all-wheel-drive.

The early 04's had massive engine and trannie issues. I had my trannie replaced twice. However, when they put the trannie that comes in the 05 in my car, no further issues. Infact I have not heard of any issues with the 05 car as of yet.

check out 'cruizinKO's post! I drove both before choosing the S4 and decided that there was just way more potential with the V8. and the sound is awesome!

Hopefully, you are right about the potential. I thought that a lot of the performance mods for the B5 came from companies trying to come up with performance parts that would mimic the RS4, I heard the RS4 engine setup would be different so it would be possible to mimic the performance mods as easily without a very expensive overhaul. Again, hopefully they come out with some good stuff to peak out the 8's potential.

I had a '95 E36 M3 that I kept for 8 years and drove 90,000 miles. The B6 S4 runs circles around that car -- no comparison. I have never driven an E46 M3, so I can't help out there.

I had my S4 clutch replaced on warranty at 5000 miles. Pretty weird. But no other problems.

I drove 4 new BMWs over a 14 year period but just couldn't face buying one of those fugly Chris Bangle cars. Get the S4, you'll be glad. [:D]
