Help me out here-
A friend of a friend has the exact same S4 I have ordered for sale. It has everything except alcantara seat which I could have put in. 12000 miles. Perfect condition. The person is a conservative driver. They will take 40K for it. Do I buy a used one and have enough money for HRE's, coilover, and alcanta inserts or wait for the new one. I'm thinking I should get this used one but something in me wants the brand new one.[confused]

Get the used with the upgrades. That way you will not take the hit on a new one.

The more I'm thinking about the more I think I should get the used one. I would only end up financing 8k of it with the used one.

That is definitely the smart financial move. Plus you get to drive it now! Let me know how much the alcantara upgrade is. I wanted it on my car, but was too impatient to wait.

depends on how much of a deal you're getting for your "ordered" one. when did you place your order? how long did it take/is it gonna take?

definetly buy used, i did and payed cash for my car (B6 A4) and have no car payments, i also payed what a dealer would've paid for it. Because of this move i'm planning on trading in my car in the next 6-9 months and getting an S4.

I placed by order in August and they are giving me Dec 27 as the delivery date. $50900 including the $1700 gas guzzeler tax. Basically $1000 off MSRP.

I would suggest getting the used, especially since you could save so much on what you have to finance. I would have done the same but there was NO way I was going to find what I wanted used back then.

definitely the used one. there is absolutely no change in style or options (except bi-x). if you get the new one, it will be just like used in 3 months anyway.

another option is find a brand new 2004. friend of mine got one over a month ago for $44k......

i think you just want that new car smell ;)

i'd say go used if it's exactly the same thing. just make sure the records don't show anything unusual...

You should be able to get a new S4 for invoice. I just bought a 2005 S4 a couple weeks ago and argued until they gave it to me for invoice. Almost every car right now, no matter what the make, is going for invoice!

If you buy used you also have to keep in mind you will be paying a higer rate to finance and you can probably even over finance the car and get them to effectively roll in your mods when you finance. For example, sticker on the car is $51,750 and you pay $47k. Finance the $51,750 and get them to cut you a check for the difference ($4,750) and use that cash to buy your mods. Meanwhile they are financed in with the car.

I would tell your friend you would give her $750 above what the dealer is giving her and you will go with her and "buy the car from the dealer" (do what's called an "in-and-out" at the dealership for $300) and that will get her tax savings on a $40,000 trade-in.

Just some things to think about.

I ended up finding a different used one. 9300 miles and every single option available. 42k with the extended warranty. It ships next Monday and should get here by the following Monday. After throwing a tantrum on the phone I may be getting my deposit back from the dealer here also.

Dealers can't legally keep deposits (at least in TX) unless you have customized the car in some way, shape or form that is different than a manner that can be received directly from the manufacturer.

I don't know what the law is in Nevada but I'll get my money back one way or another.

I did it and no I can't sleep! It will ship next Wednesday. It will probably take a week to get here. In the mean time I'm on a shopping spree. I ordered springs. I'm holding off on coilovers for now. I have appointments at a tint shop and the upolstery shop. As soon as production starts on the HRE comp series I'll be ordering those too.

There is a ton of snow already. It's snowing right now. I'm always at Boreal, Alpine Meadows or Mt Rose. Almost every day.
I called HRE last week and they said probably early Dec they will start production. As soon as they start I'm getting a set.
