Before I get bashed and flamed, its in a V6. Im not trying to be fast here, In total I added 23lbs.
I used real inter-locking wood flooring, not that pergo shit that doesnt stay together. One box which was 18 sqft cost me $40 and I have a few pieces left over.
I just pieced the wood together on my living room floor upside-down and then laid the carpet from the trunk over it. Simply traced the carpet out-line and numbered the pieces before cutting them with the jig-saw. When I was done cutting I just layed the pieces in the trunk OVER the old carpet they interlocked together and fit perfectly.
I went to the junkyard and pulled a cargo net from a Dodge caravan. Went to ACE and bought 4 suction cups. The net is in the trunk and I can pull it out without leaving a mark. Just incase I ever actually make it to a meet or show :(

Is that hard to get to stay tight i have laid it down on quite a few floors now and it doesnt always stay tight especially with out nailing it down. Is it just floating there?

I purposely made the fit tight between the rear seats and the back of the trunk so it wont shift vertically, the side to side fit is so tight that theres about .5" of gap between the flooring and the trunk side liner.
It didnt shift on the way to work today but I guess Ill check it in a few days and Ill let you know.

Not my cup of tea but nice work. I have put in many hardwood floors (in houses) and it can be a pain.

I would have expected that more from a Passat owner, but I'm pretty sure I like it.
Any other bits in the car match it? Armrest lid in Cherry would be tits.

I have enough wood left over, only problem is that I havent found a trim that is clean enough for the sides of it. That and my arm rest is Mint lol. But Im keeping the wood Audi 100S shift knob and the spare wood to use it somewhere.

I love how it turned out and have been thinking about doing the same thing with oddly enough Brazilian cherry. How easy is it to get in and out? Im a little concerned with being able to access the spare. Have thought at all about placing flat aluminum down about 8 inches apart to help protect the floor? Im not sure if its necesary but something that popped into my mind.

Not something I would have ever thought of or would ever do.
Good job nonetheless. [:)]

It was actually easy to put in and I imagine it would be just as easy to take out. It was just a pain in the butt putting the pieces in while following the number system I used when I was labelling them. It was just time consuming.
Like I said, I just bought 4 suction cups at the hardware store and used them to secue my cargo net to the floor, I have my tool bag (as seen in pics) and my paramedic satchel back there as well. They both are pretty heavy and they havent torn the suction cups free yet.
I checked the trunk today when I got to college and so far there hasnt been any shifting of the wood, all the seams are still tight [up]
I tried to use pergo but I just didnt have any faith in the joints holding, that and it was flimsy and actually bowed into the spare tire well. I like real wood much much better.

well yes it may be real wood but, anytime i see the snap in flooring it never stacks up to the real deal.... Still looks good and if you used real hardwood it would probly weigh a ton. I would know i made a roof box out of quatersewn white oak and it weighs quite a bit but looks nice... Anyways rant over good job[wrench][up]

Not really feelin it, however I think it would look 10000000x more amazing with something done to the sidewall liners as well, maybe box them with something as well?

Hmmmmm, IDK about boxing out the trunk, that would just weigh too much. PLus I owuld have to buy an entire case of wood to finish it. I might have enough to do the seat backs though. Its snowing pretty hard, if classes are cancelled Ill do it.

I'd be impressed if it was solid marble. Seriously though its pretty cool.
You know what its missing?
On the edges you need some kind of trim to cover the gap between the flooring and the side carpeting. Maybe some kind of felt trim piece or....I know! Hot glue some high quality looking marine tow rope around the edge. The braided old school kind, but not really thick. That would be ballin.
Also is there a way that you can re-cut that flooring so there is a pattern to it? Or maybe make it so you don't see any cut marks, just one solid piece for each row. I think thats throwing it off a bit.

Well I got a good laugh at all of my buddies with WRX's and STis at a local meet lastnight. They were quick to point out that it is different compared to all of them who think its unique to put a set of Hella Supertones on and call it a day.

take your last dyno sheet and subtract about 1 HP from it, then ask yourself, "was it worth it?"

Wow.. Absolutely AMAZING! It's this kind of stuff which makes us appreciate Audizine, and Audizine sure is full of it!
When are you going to replace the seats with custom seats made from treated cedar!? Might suck for road trips, but hell it'll look AWESOME, and think of how many people will be impressed. DO IT UP!

You're right. It might be the punchline to a long running joke the original poster likes to tell - "I've got wood in my trunk" or something to that effect. [:D]
Ok, ok.. I'll admit to trolling [;)]

Update: Still holding up great, lay cardboard in the trunk to protect it. Pieces are still staying tight together too.
