Hey guys, im picking up my 01 S4 tomorrow, and im looking around at options for summer rims/tires. Im going to have michelin pilot sport a/s's mounted on the stock rims as winter wheels, and i was wondering how ssr comps would hold out for everyday driving. i would get 18x18.5. i have heard on some other forums that ssr rims tend to be a little soft and are prone to bending. Does anybody reccomend not going with these? Will i have to use spacers to clear my stock calipers?
Also, it says that the weight of each rim is 16.8 lbs on the tirerack site. mounted with tires (pilot sport ps2 possibly) will these be lighter than the stock 17's?
Thanks in advance, i know im asking a lot of questions

I think the stock S4 wheels weigh 28 pounds. So yeah, you'll be saving a lot of weight. I've read that the SSR Comps are really soft. Maybe you can get away with it if you have really good roads where you're from.

I have never seen a SSR wheel that did not stand up to normal driving. They are a great forged wheel. Keep in mind, that any wheel can be damaged.

I was looking for a set of SSR Comps myself not too long ago but decide to give-up that route. It is the lightest and probably the cheapest one piece forged wheels I can fit on my A6 2.7t. I had my eyes set on the 18's because it looks better and not much weight and price penalty. My other option is the much more expensive 19's Volk LEs but decided it was not worth it anyways.

But after much research on Audiworld and other forums, I have found at least half of the 18's owners damanged their rims and some even said they didn't even feel any impact was significant enough to bend one. On the other hand, some stood by their wheels and was lucky enough to not bend one. For me, 50% chance is too much to take. So I was seriously torn on wether I should get 17's or not. It is only a bit lighter but looks way too small and most owners are very happy with them and didn't read too many problems(at least not posted anyways). Well, I am still shopping now but choices are limited so I am looking around the classified now. good luck with your search, i hope the info helps

thanks for the input guys, pretty much what i expected. The roads around me are not too bad, but they are not great. PA roads suck compared to most other states. i still may give these a try, because le's don't come in 18x8.5, correct?

They come in 19X8.5. Some shops has order them that way directly form Volk that surface around Los Angeles and some other guy in Miami. Depend on where you live it might be hard to get your hands on them because they are special ordered. But they are some of the nicest looking and on top one of the lightest and strongest rims around. There was just a set sold in the for sale forum.

If I have not heard of so many horror story about SSR Comp bending I would be all over those nice looking and light rims already. They are also very nicely priced. I know a place that sells them for $399 each.
