Is the 2000 A6 2.7 notorious for any specific problems or issues?

I bought a used 2000 A6 2.7L with only 37K mi on it in Jan of 2004. I now have 47K mi on it. I have had numerous problems with the car that I have had to fix: water pump, timing belt, replaced all 4 tires, cam shaft adjuster and assc valves, etc,; transmission seal, rear brakes and rotors, and I think that's abt it for now. I thought I was getting a great deal, but wound up inheriting a ton of headaches. Its hard to believe that this much could go wrong at only 37 - 47K mi. Caveat emptor!

I barely can believe this. Got 20K km on mine, and besides 1 liter of oil (-Shell long life-) have not spent a dollar on it.

I have to slightly adjust my reply, just found out I have to change warped front rotors :((((

I've had mine for a year now
I put in 26k miles, from 59k when I got it to almost 86k now; tires are obvious wear and tear; my brakes/clutch are perfect; only thing I had to do was change water pump
great car!

sounds like everyone else is very happy with theres though!
Have 50K on my 04... but I ma the second owner since October 2005(45k m) Just had two problems within 2 months: rear window would come back up in cold mornings and the turning signal would not blink.... Both problems addressed under warranty by Audi after 4 visits including one when they kept it 3 nights because I refused to pick it up until the replicated the window problem....

yes, they are. The calipers are the same as the A6 4.2 as well, but the rotor has a different depth in the hat.
The 2.7T motor is good and strong, but as with any Audi, its gonna take money to keep it going. Everything artfuldodger73 said, plus more when you get into higher milage. If a turbo goes bad, your looking at having them both replaced...at 13-16 hours of time at a repair shop, plus parts ($2500 easy)

yes, but at that point you are not just getting same turbos as before - you buy K04's [hail] [wrench] [drive] [a6]
how much to upgrade to K04's? and what other parts/mods should be done at the same time?

Hey I have an 02 A6 2.7T that I just got which has 45.5k miles on it. So far I've driven it about 1,500 miles and the thing is outstanding with two minor exceptions. 1 - the digital gas meter that tells you how many miles you have left is very inacurate and changes a lot. 2 - everytime I'm done using it I get this burned rubber or burned something smell. Any body know what this could be, and if it would be covered under my 50k mile warranty. Thanks

All common things we see day in and day out, although usually on vehicles with 60k+. You've done these early so you won't be plagued with these issues at 60k+.
Common things to look for on the B5/C5 cars;
Front upper control arms(4 of them)---boots tearing
Outer tie rod ends--boots tearing
Outer cv boots---tearing
Rear tranny output seal--leaking
Rear differential (final drive) output flange seal--leaking
Breather valve in engine bay--clogging
Vacuum lines fraying
Check valve T for vacuum reservoir cracking
Valve cover gasket/cam chain tensioner gaskets/cam seals leaking in engine bay
HTH a bit.

Leaves shouldn't have anything to do with it.
The chain tensioner gaskets job isn't a small task---one cam on each bank have to be removed.
Are you still under factory warranty?
