Well it look's like apr released a chip for the S4.
it produces 351hp on 93 octane.
If it really work it's not so bad.
You can go to their website and check it out.

Am I missing something. That doesn't seem like much .. how much does it cost .. i will admit i'm pretty much an amateur .. but 11 hp and more difficult to find gas?

11 HP sounds right to me on an NA car. Price?

APR used to have good software, but people have reported problems with their B6 stuff. Their chips are usually more on the mild side.

I personally wouldn't go with APR, but thats me.

Remember those gains are on 94 octane. Expect even less in Ca if you go with this chip. I imagine the price is between 500-600. Less than 10 hp on 91 is not worth it to me. Should be able to get a little more power out of GIAC, with a better overall program.

I miss domestic car/truck upgrages. Used to be able to get 20hp with a chip on a NA truck for about $300. And you could adjust the programming for gear ratios, wheel and tire size, oct., ect. Funny how the domestics are years ahead in programming. Guess its a larger market.

nope not years ahead... just more basic in building blocks.

you can go further with timing because of the simplicity of the engines.

a 2v or 3v per cyl engine can be stressed further without detonation.

Very true. Our engines are far more sophisticated and difficult to tune.

What I was trying to say was the technology was out on domestic years before our cars.

I am pretty sure that the APR chip is tuned for 93 octane.

Either way, no good for people in Ca. 91 octane is the highest here.

I'm pretty sure that the APR website states 'no gain' on 91 octane for B6 S4. GIAC sounds like a better deal to me....

Is this a physical computer chip, where you remove the stock chip and insert the apr? That's really old technology. In my (now deceased) 350Z, I had a lot of N/A mods (cams, headers, hi-flow cats, true dual exhaust, pulleys, intake, plenum), and got a custom ECU flash from a tuning wizard named Tadashi of TechnoSquare. He uploaded a customized computer program to my ECU by hooking up a laptop and changing the fuel mapping, removing the speed governor, raising the rev limiter, etc. It really worked great. I think the Japanese tuners are light years ahead of the Germans and the Americans.

Thats how GIAC works, its just a flash.

APR tune????? the fuck are you thinking? skip that shit. The JHM tune has proven itself over and over again against every tune. its not as conservative as the APR and Giac products. JHM is the one that is devoting itself to the B6/7 S4 world. they are the ones building bolt-on S4's that are running 12's in the 1/4 using their tune.

From what i have seen. APR and Giac approach to N/A tuning: Dump more fuel, alter throttle input levels

Agree with Richard, I am having a hard time spending that kind of coin on something I can't mess with. Just doesn't make much sense. I can go and get a Yamaha YEC Full Race Kit ECU (Not a re-flash) with Software for ~700. That gives me all kinds of tools, Fuel add/subtract in 250rpm increments and at 5% throttle position points, Timing in the same increments, Velocity Stack Tune, Over Rev management, 2 different tunes I can move to on the fly, Soft Redline management as well as a Pit Speed Limit function. And I can keep multiple tunes on my laptop for different conditions. There's more too, but you get the picture.

I'm sure there is less of a market on the YEC stuff, why are we having to pay this much for less functionality? 300 bones, is about what I'd spend on a static reflash or piggyback.
