Is the engine in the 2005 s4 the same one found in the RS6 (w/o turbo)?

Basically it is the same, the difference is, that the compression is much higher on the S4 because of the N/A setup. They had to use different cams, and valves on the RS6 because they needed lower compression to offset the high boost.

I would assume some other internl mods for strength as well.

Actually the RS6 block is the older engine, the belts are still in the front of the engine. The newer block has a better BHP, due to its internal changes.
to fully understand?
Are you saying the S4 engine is a new block or the rs6 engine is newer?
I will go check my engine bay .. and see if i can verify where the belts are ..
thanks for you help .. if you could explain a bit more that would be great ..
thanks

The RS6 had the motor first, then in order to fit in the S4, they had to move the belts to the back of the engine for clearance.

Same block with the accessory belts moved for a more compact design.
