I heard the WRX's in WA are both yellow. In OR, I'm not sure. I also got pulled over in WA by a black 02-03 F150. Looked completely stock, surprized me....

Yup. Oregon State Police

I've seen most of the unwrapped cars except the WRX's. Tigard even has a Dodge Stratus (light grey).

Got pulled over in North Bend from a Chevy full size Blazer in metalic blue and all windows were tinted. Had pop down lights(red & blue) on the sunvisors. Bastard! Smart tho.

With all of the vehicle changes I would think that eventually it will hurt the WSP and OSP credibility. Follow my logic if you will....

Non-standardized vehicles

Increased variety in non-standardized vehicles

Public confusion as to who, what, when, where, a police officer exists.

With the recent increase in road rage it could easily be argued that an unmarked car was misconstrued as an aggressive road rage driver flashing brights at you. I honestly think it is just a matter of time before this is fought before the courts and some kind of regiment is established for the police. It is a matter of police identiy. Afterall it is against the law to represent yourself as an officer of the law if in fact you are not. I for one find this to be more a safety hazzard than a benefit.

Some old lady sees a car speeding up behind her flashing his lights. She does not see the typical markings of a police vehicle. She moves out of the way of the vehicle and the vehicle (unmarked police car) continues to pursue her. She freaks out and miss handles her car driving it into a barrier killing herself. Who is liable? I say it is the law inforcement agentcy for breaking the very laws that serve to protect the identity that it is unlawful to represent.

Recent gravitation of speeding violations are not sought for public safety but more as a revenue gathering pursuit......this is my main concern......it is not about justice, it is about money and that is wrong badge or not.

Here is some food for thought for those of you in Washington who may be fighting tickets from "unmarked" vehicles.

"RCW 46.61.024
Attempting to elude police vehicle -- Defense -- License revocation.
(1) Any driver of a motor vehicle who willfully fails or refuses to immediately bring his vehicle to a stop and who drives his vehicle in a reckless manner while attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, after being given a visual or audible signal to bring the vehicle to a stop, shall be guilty of a class C felony. The signal given by the police officer may be by hand, voice, emergency light, or siren. The officer giving such a signal shall be in uniform and the vehicle shall be equipped with lights and sirens.

(2) It is an affirmative defense to this section which must be established by a preponderance of the evidence that: (a) A reasonable person would not believe that the signal to stop was given by a police officer; and (b) driving after the signal to stop was reasonable under the circumstances."

"RCW 46.37.190
Warning devices on vehicles -- Other drivers yield and stop.
(1) Every authorized emergency vehicle shall, in addition to any other equipment and distinctive marking required by this chapter, be equipped with at least one lamp capable of displaying a red light visible from at least five hundred feet in normal sunlight and a siren capable of giving an audible signal."

I am not one who would seek to harm another person by my actions on the roadway. Nor am I someone who doesn't have a healthy respect for law inforcement. But I have to be clear if I am bound by law so are they. "Distinctive Marking" how many of you have seen these vehicles without such a marking. I have.
