Watch out, they are fast. Motor Trend tested the light weight EVO RS at 4.4 seconds 0 - 60 mph. They must have really abused the clutch in perfect (cold) weather at sea level to get that number, but it is still pretty impressive.

I have raced one from about 20 mph. Neither one of us could pull on each other.

The mismatch is the price:

S4 = $49,000

EVO RS = $27,000

An Evo with slight work will win

Dont hate the Evo, its an amazing car and it will beat an S4 stock for stock.

but think of it this way, most of you can afford to drive an S4 to work, and an Evo on the weekends at the track.

EVO might be faster with any mod but I'd rather be caught dead in a S4 by far anyday.

I raced one with my B5 this week...

I had assumed I was still stock accourding to the "dealer"... but what do they know...

long story short... in 4th... he started out on my ass... and I was able to put 2 cars on him from 80-120. Then I allowed him to line up next to me... dropped to third, but he had the momentum and pulled about 3 cars. From 70 (when I dropped) until 120- I made up the entire distance...

Well I guess I'm going to find out first hand. My 350Z was totalled, and I am replacing it with an '05 EVO RS as my track car in the next couple of weeks.

I drove my B6 S4 6MT sedan at Buttonwillow Raceway last Friday, and did pretty well until the clutch went out, with no warning, on my 4th run session at about 3:00 p.m. Lost the master or slave cylinder on a car with 5000 miles. I never abuse the clutch.

The Evo maybe fast, but once you see the interior you will want to throw up. That car is uglier than most American cars. I would just buy a Elise, thats a fun track car.

Well the Elise is $10K more. The interior actually isnt that bad. I worked for the local Mitsu dealership swapping cars last summer and i spent time in the entire model line, i could live w/ the Lancer's interior, its not much worse than my RSX's. now compared to an S4 is absolute trash, but compared to other sport compacts, and when you think about what its designed for its livable. besides i always said that it should be one of your weekend track cars, and the interior isnt that important when your driving around the track.

don't evo's have an issue with being all lemony? i know a guy that went thru 3 transfer cases in a year. *sigh* plus i hear that they were getting spanked left and right on the rally circuit. hehe. i'm sure they're fast, i'm just a hater. [:p]

Evo's have ben known to have transmission and transfer issues.

D0WNxSH1FT

the evo's putting out so much power that its been known to have some problems. but these problems arent from normal wear and tear. they are from people abusing the car. so no there not lemons. If you dump the clutch on that car enough times its clutch will die. its AWD, it doesnt like to be launched, and so things can break, as you Quattro owners all know.

Its a mitsu, it will fall a part in a few years.

eh, its japanese, it will most likely out live any other cars on the road. plus its got the best warranty in the business (well the Evo is excluded from just about all of it), but the rest of the fleet is covered.

as far as I'm concerned the Evo not something I would want to drive every day...(personally I think they look silly but maybe I'm just a hater) If I just wanted to go fast I wouldn't have spent the extra 15k on the S4. Besides, the V8 torque is awesome and sounds incredible.

If you just wanted to go fast, you'd get the neon with a blower.
