Ok guys, i saw a thread like this over on E46Fanatics.com and i thought it'd be cool if we had something along the same lines. since we don't have a specific "evolution of my car" forum, the Admins suggested this is the next best place, so here goes!

that is one sick lookin b6. the thing i look at is that b6's looks like they are HELLA heavy. and the b5's stock are slow. what do you think of the stock b6 preformance?

yoogene83
09-24-2004, 01:19 PM
thanks for the compliment. [:)]

actually, they are about the same weight to a B5 as i've heard, but i have no info to back that up, so i can't really say much.

however, your statement about them appearing heavy is true. when i first bought the car it felt a lot more nimble than what it looked like when it was stock. As for performance, it's peppy to say the most. It's not very fast or quick, but it gets you there with some fun. It's nothing like driving a WRX or Evo, but the luxury is second to none. [cool]

car went back into winter setup this past week...plastic mat covers, stock wheels with all seasons, extra warm clothes in the trunk along with deer musk spray to keep the stupid rodents away from the ever so luscious oil sensor wires.

http://edition719.com/forums/photos/get-photo.asp?photoid=140

i put in the HID foglights from Overboostpsi this week. it would have been nice if i didn't have to pull off the entire bumper just to get at my fogs, but it was worth it.

relocated the placement of my turbo timer to below my armrest. i like it a lot better here as it isn't distracting when i'm driving at night and it still serves its purpose.

howd you get that guage to be in the corner of the dash like that?

care to share? and whered you buy your caractere front from?

yoogene83
02-28-2005, 11:57 AM
thanks for the compliments Brrman. i've seen the caractere for the B5 and wondered what went wrong...or right to make the b6 ones look better...

I just got some double tape. it's pretty flimsy as you can see in the pictures, i still need to work on that...just been busy with other things.

i got the bumper from bobby@modsport.

With all that money why not an s4?

yoogene83
03-10-2005, 07:58 PM
because i never intended to go this far. most of my mods have been for aesthetic purposes rather than performance. in addition to having to pay more for insurance/gas/payments, i wouldn't be able to do half the things i've been able to do to my a4. besides, no need to go fast if you can look good going slow. :)

Now all you have to do is take off that damn graduation tassel that's hanging from your rearview mirror. [:p] Other than that, sweet ride. [up] [:D]

yoogene83
04-14-2005, 10:13 PM
hah, that thing is over 4 years old. the only reason it's still there is because i have this fear that the cross necklace i have hanging from my rear-view will cut me if i ever get in an accident. it kinda helps it from swinging. if i can figure out something better to hang from there, i'll put it up...i'm open to ideas too.

very clean ride. how about an FK grille?

yoogene83

yoogene83
05-19-2005, 09:15 AM
alright! time for an update...

i finally got an aftermarket grill to sorta match my caractere bumper and i got a pretty decent deal on a Kamei that was painted, so i picked that up April 05
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/DSCN1939.jpg

then i was on my way to go buy an intercooler and this happened Late April 05:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/Picture69.jpg

the fender got pretty tore up, and the tire was in bad shape too. so, $1500 later, the car is finally back May 05
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/VW_s_on_the_Green_047.jpg

i finally had a chance to pick up a Megan boost gauge from Hyperspeed to better match my interior, and better match it did May 05:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/DSCN1996.jpg

I also picked up a Dension Ice-Link to hardwire my iPod, but i'm still working on the custom install on that one, so that'll be up soon

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/subenclosure.jpg

then over the course of 3 months, picked up parts for my turbo upgrade (Again). decided to go with the GTRS Eliminator kit with REVO/ecode software

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/CIMG0969.jpg

everything i got when i decided to put it in
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/kit.jpg

i also had some other things show up in the mail while in the process of installing the hardware

Southbend OFE SS clutch good up to 450lbs of torque

Neuspeed Turbo inlet pipe with GTRS velocity adaptor (waiting on the adaptor)

Ecode Test pipe

unfortunately i ran into some snags with the installation with the oil feed fitting stripping the threads and not being able to lock down properly. so i am i currently waiting for ATP to send me the proper fitting so i can get jasmine running again. [wrench]

After 2 weeks of downtime, i finally got the GTRS up and running. in hindsight, i would have just paid eurocode to do it for me, but, i figured i could gain some more insight and knowledge from doing it myself. i gained both, but at the cost of lots of aggravation.

i'm sure you all have seen pictures of this setup, but one more can't hurt, right? [:p]

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1030.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1033.jpg

then i made these custom tools in order to tighten the nuts on the ATP manifold. if you want to borrow them for your install, just let me know and i'll ship them to ya [wrench]
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1036.jpg

had to shave them down pretty low too
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1038.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1041.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1044.jpg

i also stripped the oil feed fitting by overtorquing it (rated at 17ft/lbs, i did like 30)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1049.jpg

i ordered a new one, but ATP sent me the wrong one
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1050.jpg

so while waiting for the proper fitting, i made these special tools to get the stripped brass out of the turbo fitting
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1048.jpg

i even broke this 3/8" adaptor wrenching on shit too
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1051.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1052.jpg

All in all, however, i'm glad i did it, and glad i had AZ's help (especially Greg's) for all my questions. I tested the car yesterday with just the turbo and manifold and felt that it wasn't doing much better than my k03 BI file. i did notice that it was only boosting max 15psi.

i got the GTRS velocity adaptor yesterday and put it in today and this made a HUGE difference. since the turbo can actually get some air into the compressor, the car just RIPS! it sounds incredible as well. I'm putting in the Test pipe today as i had wanted to make each mod gradual so that i could gauge how each mod benefited to the entire application. i am sitting pretty happy with the current setup though. ok, i lost a lot of stuff over the crash, but here's my shot at recollecting everything i did since then.

April through August...

I had the testpipe put in somewhere in April. noticed very slight changes in spool up, but more noise than anything else. it was cool for a week until i drove through a echoing neighborhood and found it sounded like shit.

I then blew some more money that i didn't have and got the following
Got a Kerscher CF lip for my Caractere front to add a little depth and contrast and the outcome turned out well
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/lip.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/lip2.jpg

Got it from DTCDesigns.com and had Val hook me up cuz of the Audizine membership. props to them and Michael over at Emotion Autowerks for helping me out with his lift and air tools.

Also got an RNS-E to satisy my hunger for navigation in the car. this unit is utterly breathtaking. you have to experience it to understand
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/nav.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/rns-e.jpg

Thanks to Scott at Rival (German Driver) for hooking it up. extremely happy with the outcome.

I finally put in my OFE SS Stg4 clutch as well. clutch feel is fairly stiff, but engagement is immediate and low. it's taking a little aclamation, but it's doing well so far.

I got a 3.0 cover for the driver side of the engine bay to clean it up. it took a little dremeling, but it turned out well.

i'm running the Escort 7500S, but i would recommend getting the 8500 or a Valentine 1 because the one i have keeps going off with false alarms and the radar picks things up later than the newer models.

unfortunately i don't have picts of the install, but it took a little bit of dremeling, a little bit of filing, and a lot of glue. haha, i just got a hardwire kit for Escort Detectors and tore the remote apart and put the chip inside the piece. PM me if you have any more questions [wrench]

yep. something sqweeks now, so i have to figure out what's going on, but they're still going strong.

Dante, i never put the blades back on, as i didn't like how it broke up the lines of the car, so i ended up selling them. i will admit, however, they did serve a purpose in that it helped deflect the rain/snow from the front doors. if you're adamant about it, put them on, you can always sell them later [up]

so i was perusing under the car last night trying to figure out what was making the inordinate amount of vibration noise in my cabin at 2.5krpms when i stumbled upon this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1840.jpg

that wouldn't have been an issue, except when it was actually connected between the turbo and N75, this is what you could see

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/turbo%20install/CIMG1842.jpg

although nothing that's gonna break the car in the immediate future, it was still something that needed to be rectified. i went to Autozone this afternoon and picked up some 1/4" fuel line to replace the old hose.

Driving impressions noted after putting in the new line was that i was immediately boosting LESS than what i was before with a butt dyno of about -10hp. why? i too pondered this and came to this conclusion:

the hole in the hose creates a vacuum in which the n75 regulates the amount of boost that the turbo can send to the intake mani, however, since there was a hole in that hose, it would allow air to leak out, thus, making the n75 think there was less boost than what was actually being produced, which in turn led to the n75 actuating the wastegate to allow for more boost. I always noted that was i boosting ~22psi on b7t5, which should have been around 20psi spike with a 18psi hold. i just thought my car was badass and thought nothing of it. little did i know, that the additional boost was from the leak and was also creating a lean condition, which is bad joojoo.

car drives fine now, as well, although a little less boost, it's feels quicker in 1+2 gears, but 3+ seem to have slowed down. oh well

car is almost at 60k miles. no plans for a rebuild or more motor work as of yet; i'm pretty pleased with it's level of performance. the only thing i have on the plate is a Timing belt job which i should be doing within then next 5k or so...that and i need new front rotors and pads since mine are warped to all hell and i'm sick of the amount of brake dust created by the stock s4 pads. i will update with those things as soon as i have the spare cash to purchase the parts

driftin' stylez

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/drift.jpg

the latest round of changes took away some of the overly aggressiveness of the audi. got rid of the 4" Magnaflow straight edge tips, the kercher CF lip and the oettinger wheels brought the car to a much more subtle, VIP style look that the Audi needs. now it's just sweet, fast and pretty.

thanks for the kind words guys, hope to keep her around for quite some time and gotta make sure she's good to go!

swapped in new motor mounts as part of my 65k mile overhaul. I heard a bad clunking noise from the front passenger side of my car and became pretty convinced it was my motor mount. so i swapped them for the ones from 034 motorsports rubberized constructed ones. they're $45 a pop and better than OEM s4/rs4 mounts since they don't have any fluid in them.

http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data/500/1910CIMG2056.JPG

and can be purchased here:
http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=25_66_74&products_id=772

Stage 3 cars have the turbo VERY close to the mount, a K03 or K04 may have more working room. there is a 13mm nut inside the red circle. you can go at it several ways, but i just did my best with my socket set and some crescent wrenches and crow's feet wrenches

http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data/500/1910CIMG2062.JPG

http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data/500/1910CIMG2063.JPG

If you do this however, make sure your car is on ramps, and NOT jackstands! the pressure will shear the bolt and ruin your sway bar as you can see, i know from first hand experience.

http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data/500/1910CIMG2064.JPG

make sure you just LOOSEN the endlinks, and only do so AFTER you have taken the bushings off the lower frame mounts. i broke the bolt holding the end links and now have to buy another bolt and figure out how to get the leftover bolt inside the sway bar out.

Took me about 2 hours...the passenger side took me 1.5 hours and the drivers took me 30 minutes. the top nut is a bitch, the rear bolt is a bitch, and the damn lower frame didn't fall down all the way so you had to finagle the mount in and out.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

driving impressions:they are AWESOME.

drove the car to work this morning; no more clunking and the slop between shifts is gone. car shifts smooth as butter now and i don't have this horrendous noise when i downshift from 4th-2nd without double clutching.

HOWEVER, i did blow my "coilpack cherry" yesterday on the way in to work. it was the first time in 3 weeks i had been able to really drive the car and after i got on it from first...to second...then third...then massive misfires, hesitation and blinking CEL. pulled over, shut the engine off and turned it back on; turned off my water/meth injection (which had been off since last summer) and drove a little bit. car started sounded like a WRX with an exhaust so i pulled into the next shopping center and started swapping coilpacks. i thought it was either cylinder 1 or 2, but ended up being cylinder 3. then went back home, checked the code and confirmed cylinder 3 and went back to work.

i haven't really gotten on the throttle since because the temp gets to 100*F by 820am so i'm taking it easy to prevent massive pre-detonation and knocking. OTHERWISE though, the car runs smooth as silk; shifts are smooth and the car got considerably quieter after the timing belt change. almost sounds like stock. almost. hehe

le sigh...

in this rollercoaster of modding i think i've come to the point where i'm done.

i had a nasty crack in my ATP manifold and took it a bit of work getting it replaced under warranty, only to try installing it but breaking a bolt inside the turbo, hence a $550 bill to repair the damages from this piece of shit.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Urbamworm/IMG_3001.jpg

so i got fed up with all the performance stuff, so i sold off the Water/methanol injection kit
bye bye snow performance!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/CIMG1337.jpg

also sold the Oettinger RZ's. it pained me to do so, but i wanted to free up some cash and it was the easiest thing to part with, so farewell Oettinger!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/PICT0015.jpg

and i'm back to semi-stock.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/CIMG2169.jpg

perhaps there will be other 19's in the future, but seeing as i have bigger things on the list of things to buy, ie. house, grad school, a truck, the wheels will have to wait.

not to mention the car feels much quicker without the big wheels and the stock manifold. quicker spool and more fun since it's cooling back down.

**there was positive reinforcement out of this though. the girlfriend and i got out of dinner one night and she saw the car on stock 17's and she lamented "wow, that looks like shit [after the oettingers], i should get a second job to put some proper wheels on that car again". haha, guess i made the right choice with this one!

if you bent your wheels already then m-classics won't be any better. they're a cast 1-piece wheel, so they won't hold up much better than your rs-10's..

Very badass story, i only dream of doing the same thing to my ride someday. Very nice looking b6 though, If you are wanting to get new rims, in my opinion i think some black wheels would look steller, and it would match the black roof.

Why you changed your 2871 to rs turbo?

well, i originally bought the GT28R, but i had other things come up that needed my financial attention, so i sold it off. I never got around to installing it as i was piecing the kit together.

I got the GTRS soon after it was proven as a fairly successful turbo upgrade and went about getting that kit together. When i finally got everything, i put it on and it's been a fun ride ever since [up]

Since last, i managed to pick up a set of RS4 sway bars to round out my suspension components. There isn't a huge difference over stock, but the car does become slightly more neutral during turns, but still has a heavy nose for understeer.

I didn't notice the greatest difference performance wise, but it did give me a pretty sweet injury to my thumb.

did you install the boost gauge all by yourself or did you go to a shop? If so what type of shop did it?

The boost gauge was pretty easy to install. You just tap the intake manifold vacuum/boost pressure then run the line to your dash through the firewall. You can then tap a line for the 12V switch power, which can be used via the homelink system if you have it.

Just do a search for Boost Gauge DIY and you'll find tons of threads [up]

Farewell iForged Senekas! You will be missed very much!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/wheel%20disassembly%20and%20repair/26.jpg

I got what I was asking for in terms of price, so I have deemed it time to move onto something different. In the interim, I'm just hoarding all my money into my bank accounts so I can buy this damn house. Hopefully after I move in, I can start modding again. Ugh

I do know one thing though, my next set of wheels will be 20" big, step lipped, with gold bolts. you'll just have to see what I have up my sleeve for 2009!

I hate you for selling those.

Nothing too crazy. Just a custom tail tidy, dual light driver, heat wrapped exhaust piping, tank cover and that's all i can think off of the top of my head. It was a damn fine motorcycle that i still miss dearly. Oh well, at least i got to experience it!

You wrapped it because the undertrail exhaust was cooking you through the seat, or for other reasons?

I just picked these up from a local deal, but they only came through because of the 5x114.3 bolt pattern. They were for a Lexus GS fitment, but the offsets are perfect for the b6. Those rear tires, however, will probably have to go, and i'll throw the 245/35/19 Yoko's in the rear and get a set of 235/35/19's for the fronts.

First things first, gotta order them wobble bolts and enlarge the holes to fit the 14mm bolts.

If I work it out with the fiance, i may be able to keep them, but as of right now, they're on the chopping block to go to another buyer. I'm crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath ;\

Wow! what you did with a sedan is awesome! My favorite part the red brakes :) they look Porshe like.. fast and yes if you look good who cares how fast! I also love the blue intake does that make it fast?

No pedal mod ? I want to switch my pedals to a nice metal set.

I have a 2007 black on black sline cabriolet..getting it next week traded in my Landrover 2008 and thrilled to be in a sporty car again. Any ideas..

thought it would be nice to tie in with my silver trim interior :)

I am hoping for easy install .. I am a girl with limitations[:)]

thanks! i actually did the RS4 pedal set as I wanted a quality set of pedals that would still give good feedback for heel-toe shifting. I liked the red brakes for a while too, but went back to a silver finish because i didn't really want to show off a set of stock brakes, yanno?

best of luck with your project though!

Staggered Work VS-XX's with a race gold face and Polished lip:

F: Work VS-XX 19x8.5 et. 31 (2" lip) wrapped in Yokohama S.Drive 245/35/19
R: Work VS-XX 19x9.5 et. 45 (3" lip) wrapped in Yokohama S.Drive 275/30/19

I haven't measured the hub sizes, but i'm sure it'll fit over it since the GS is a 60.1mm hub

well, some devastating news. I was planning on putting on the Works after several months of talking about it, but i finally gave it a trial fit and found that they won't clear my B6 s4 brakes. Therefore, if i want to put them on, i'd have to redrill them and run a 3mm spacer to clear the brakes. le sigh...oh well, i guess that's that.

I did get a chance to mod a little bit though, and picked up nine1twoinc's (John's) old A-pillar gauge pod. He hooked me up with the passenger side too since they were wrapped in black fabric ala S-Line euro style.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/DSC_0213.jpg

It's much better than having the boost gauge flopping around in the corner like it used to...it just took a little while to get it in there.

A lot of my modding has slowed down primarily because of the arrival of a newborn and fixing all the random things in the house. I can now see the benefits of renting again...anyways, i've been busy clearing up the garage, but it's getting there. This was also the main reason for my buying the house, the extended garage and driveway was a definite bonus.

haha Thanks Vin. Luckily for me, the wheels sold for what i was asking, so i can't complain on my part.

BIG update coming over the next week or so. Stay tuned....[wrench]

yoogene83
10-15-2009, 10:32 PM
9.30.09 - day before my bday, i have the fortune of rear-ending a lady who decided to slam her brakes in oncoming traffic.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/9031_538780886873_25202963_31936565.jpg

Luckily my insurance covered myself, the other driver, and handed me a check for $4,900 to repair the vehicle. I know I shouldn't be surprised, but holy crap, these parts were expensive! I needed a new hood, bumper, passenger headlight, grille, front clip, radiator fan/shroud, AC condenser, radiator, and all the accessories.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/DSC_0129.jpg

So I decided to take the opportunity to get the car resprayed and get a couple things done to finish off the exterior. I took it to a local body shop that came highly recommended to me and so far, they've been more than accomodating to my needs. I'll be sure to list them as a referred shop as soon as I see my car upon completion.

nah, I worked out a deal with the body shop to cover my deductible and get a full respray instead of blending if i brought in a new bumper on my own. I just took the opportunity to match up the sideskirts for the new bumper and get the roof spoiler I've been wanting for awhile now.

It doesn't help that we have a lot of extra bills to take care of this month either...

A little update...it's taking a little longer than originally anticipated due to the inordinate amount of work that came from the fiberglass bumper. Although I was able to get the bumper at a discount, the amount of man-hours required to make it look reasonable far outweighed it's benefits.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/DSC_0015-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/DSC_0027.jpg

BIG BIG Thumbs up to Desert Inn Auto Body for literally polishing a turd. the lines on this bumper matched up horribly and had tons of waves, but they were able to salvage it to look proper.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/DSC_0029.jpg

Hoping to pick her up either tomorrow or Tuesday. The roof spoiler came in from Parts4vws.com and they had a great special going on for legitimate Caractere parts. Update to come following a shoot!

More progress:

Went down there Tuesday and found that the car was resprayed and they were in the process of polishing and buffing it out

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/progress.jpg

I was supposed to pick it up today, but they took a long time polishing the rest of the body and making sure it was absolutely clean. I can't complain though, because they were serious about making sure the car was good to go. Unfortunately i didn't bring the DSLR with me so i'm stuck with iphone picts

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/3-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/2-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/yoogene/my%20rizide/1-1.jpg

They discovered that the car had a rough idle and wouldn't really run right and noticed that my turbo outlet pipe had a big crack through the hard-pipe. I was pretty surprised it caused such an issue, but they're getting it up on the lift to fix it tomorrow morning. It then goes in for an AC recharge and i'm supposed to be picking it up in the afternoon.

I've got my fingers crossed...i just want to drive the car again...

I've been lagging...for good reason. Our kid was born on 12.29.2009 at 7lbs flat, 20" and has consumed most (if not all) my time since. He's a pretty cool dude, always seducing the ladies!

http://www.audizine.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=10882

So, besides not having any money for mods, I've been stuck in a boat with just making sure that the audi stays running. With 85k miles coming up and the front end making some wicked clunking noises, I hopped on the FCP Groton GB for the control arm kit. The car had been misfiring and had a real bad idle, so I decided with everything else going on, I might as well do a full service; NGK BKR6E-iX, new Coil Packs from the recall, fresh oil change and a good washing.

http://www.audizine.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=10879

Also got hooked up with some OEM jack blocks from Jordan (CO_Avant) and was finally able to get the car in the air without worrying. I had to drive up on a few 2x4's before hand, but definitely worked out better than before

http://www.audizine.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=10880

I only got to the basic maintenance this weekend before time ran out, but more to come as i install the Control Arm/TRE kit later this week!
