Where does the funk switch go?
http://oempl.us/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=60_71&products_id=545
As can be seen here, the only free slot I have is between the passenger air bag light and the hazard switch. Will it work there?

FUNK means Radio in German. The switch is used mostly by police or taxi operators to enable/disable the radios (and other power-intensive equipment) in their cars.

Oempl.us, do you have any switches with pigtails that will fit in position #2 in the picture above? (Completely flat sides)
What about for the position all the way to the right, to the right of the ID card tray? (Rounded upper right hand corner)
These would need to have the chrome accents.
Thanks.

Back from the dead.
Is this just a normal on/off switch? Looking at that photo it looks like there are only 3 wires. On, off and ground?
EDIT:
Looks like it's a momentary switch so no on/off action.
Anyone care to decipher this (http://www.edn.com/contents/images/102804di.pdf) article? Electrical engineering is not my good side at all.

Any way to wire this so you can turn the 640 relay (servotronic) on/off without having to disconnect it? I like the steering without it but in traffic it pretty much feels like there is no power steering at all. Don't know if disconnecting the relay while the pump is running would mess it up or if that would make the ecu go nuts. Any suggestions?

If its a momentary switch you should be able to use it for anything as long as you can figure out how to wire it up.

I too am in need of a wiring pinout for this switch.
Never mind, I unplugged the harness and there are numbers both on the pinouts inside the switch as well as the pigtail harness itself.

Which one is pin 6?
Bottom left when looking from the front which is bottom right when looking from the rear. Don't you have one? It should have a number inside where the actual pins are.

Yeah the pigtails aren't coming out with too much ease so I thought I would just ask haha. I want to use the switch without the led, all I would need is pin 6 right?
Yeah, that little harness is in there but good. Use a little flat head screw driver to gently pry it out while pushing on the small tab.

Are you sure that's even a momentary switch? It's also missing the indicator LED, probably the coolest part of the Funk switch.
Have you seen it in an actual car because that looks like photochop to me. If it exists it's probably a one-off custom and I don't see Audi selling anything like it.

Back from the dead again....
The FUNK switch is not momentary, it is a mechanical latching ON/OFF switch, that changes state with each button press. The three leads are connected to the contacts inside the switch, one is Normally Open, or OFF, the other is Normally Closed, or ON, the third is the Common for both contact sets. When the switch is OFF, the LED is off, the contacts inside the switch are Open/Not connected between the NO wire to the Common wire, and the other Normally Closed contacts are Closed/Connected between the NC wire and the Common wire. When the switch is ON, the contacts change state from Open to Closed, and Closed to Open, or OFF to ON and ON to OFF.
The linked article describes a circuit to provide electronic switch latching function using a momentary switch to control the latch state changing to either ON or OFF, with each press of the momentary switch, according to the electronic latch switch state when the momentary switch is pressed.

Yes, that would be easy to do. Switching the Servotronic ON/OFF while driving will not effect the power steering pump.

Why would you bump such an old thread to add misinformation? I installed one in my own car shortly after my post here and I can say that it is indeed a momentary switch sending the SAME signal with each press and NOT a latching on/off switch that has essentially two positions with a mechanical latch. The OEM FUNK switch is a MOMENTARY switch.

No pigtail harness is included. I just used 2 wire connectors like the ones below to wire it as the on/off switch for my subs.

You guys might carry a different version of the FUNK switch if yours isn't a momentary switch and if you're using it to enable/disable an amp it must be on/off unless you're running a relay between them.

From my understanding there seams to be two different types - the one we carry that is more of an on/off switch. Then there's a momentary switch like the one posted earlier.

I want to order that part from ECS so bad, but there is just no way I can justify spending $10.75 shipping on that little button. You guys taking profit off of shipping costs is really irritating. I just shipped 20 lug bolts and a wheel hanger to someone for $5.3x shipped with USPS flat rate shipping. There is no way this costs more to ship.

Our shipping prices are a direct reflection of our costs from UPS, that being said if you cant justify that shipping price next time you need to place an order for something where we offer free shipping add the funk button to the order. You can then avoid the $10.75 to ship that part by it's self. As long as the weight on the order with free shipping isn't more than 2 lbs over what the item weighs that has free shipping we'll honor it.

No worries, just figured I'd throw that out there so everyone can take full advantage of the parts we offer with free shipping. With the 2lbs leeway you can actually add quite a few smaller things to the order. Every part we stock is weighed so you can see exactly how much the weight goes up with every part you add to your cart. [up]
