It appears they are impressed with a lot of the cars that we aren't getting.

The ones we are getting steer & track really well, but this part depresses me:

That means US Audi dealers will get sedans with either a 2.0L TFSI four-cylinder or a 3.2L FSI V6. The wagons will only get the four banger. All models will use a new fast-shifting ZF six-speed autobox, and only the front-wheel-drive 2.0L will be available with a shift-it-yourself six-speed with a third pedal.

That's right, just like the A3 you get the choices of
- Avant is 2.0T FWD Auto ONLY
- Sedan is either 2.0T FWD Auto/Stick, or 3.2 Quattro

Since when did Audi turn from Quattro on everything but base models to Quattro only on premium models? (I looked for this info, but everything seemed to only be rumour, where this appears to be now hard fact)

I don't know if this is entirely true. I just saw a 2.0T quattro avant at the autoshow. It was auto though. I'm a buyer on the B8 but only if I can get 2.0T, quattro and manual.

Say goodbye to record sale levels Audi!

I'm not saying I agree with Audi's strategy but they will not lose much in sales. Majority of people who buy Audi's are not on these forums and would not mind having an auto. Peace

They would mind not having Quattro available with the 2.0T regardless if its auto/stick.

I believe Audi hasn't sold the A4 Avant here without quattro since maybe the first few years of the B5, so we'll see.

I read the article and I don't know where you get the idea that the A4 sedan will only get quattro if it's equipped with the V6.

The US will get sedans with the 2.0T engine, optional quattro, and there will be a manual shift trans for either FWD or AWD.
The DSG trans will be late in coming, and it's possible that once again Audi won't have a manual V6 option at initial launch.

The turbo/quattro combination is Audi's bread and butter in the US.
I'm sure that will continue.

I guess I read that differently as well. Are you assuming when they say, "available" that it's the only option? By reading that clip it looks like quattro is certainly going to be an offering on the 2.0T. I also believe the manual gear box will be available with the 2.0T Quattro, here's to hoping.....

I hope I'm wrong on the above.

I found an article on motortrend which seems to confirm the beliefs and is counter to autoblog

While Audi will sell the A4 Avant with a choice of five gasoline and five TDIs in Europe, you and your fellow Americans can order it only with that 2.0 here. That's not all. You must buy it with quattro all-wheel drive and Audi's Tiptronic "fast-shift" six-speed automatic. Presumably, you still get to pick paint color. No need for import complexity with a wagon model that can't outsell Bentley here. Thus, the U.S. will see the tiny volume S4 and RS4 only as sedans.

Good news is that when the bigger A4 sedan arrives here, also in the fall, it'll be available with the 2.0 TFSI and choice of front drive or quattro and manual or automatic transmissions. It also gets the 3.2L V-6, with the Tiptronic six-speed automatic and quattro only.

Lame. I hate the auto in my Avant so much there's no way I'd buy another one. Only with a manual or DSG.

Oh well, I guess it will be a WRX STI next time around...

I think that article is all sorts of wrong. It would seem thats a step in the wrong direction and one that im pretty sure Audi wouldnt take if they want to hit their million car milestone this year. Also, as mentioned before the only transmission changes ive heard were the A4 getting DSG which is great news cause the 'box in the B7 sucks.

The avant has always come quattro with a manual gearbox. Audi won't discontinue a good thing.

Re-read the article, it says FWD ONLY FOR MANUALS. You'll have the option of 2.0T quattro for AUTOMATICS.

I really hope the article is wrong

Hah, yeah, I actually saw that afterwards

The A4 is Audi's bloodline, it'd be suicide to not offer quattro for all trims

You should be able to order one soon. Earliest delivery is around September.
