Just came back from the Vancouver Auto Show and saw an Ibis 2.0TQ Avant and a red 3.2 sedan. Though my 06 B7 titanium hasn't even arrived yet (I take possession next week), I'm buying a B8 A4 sometime next year for sure now that I've seen it in person. I simply love the car!
I liked the B8 A4 the fist time I saw pictures but still had concerns about the sloping lines through the sides and the rear end. Though I liked it, I could also relate to some of the negative comments related to design changes I've read here, all of which seem to be based on pictures. Well, all I can say is that something obviously gets lost in translation when you're looking at pictures because in person, the B8 A4, both sedan and avant, are extremely hot.
I actually like the fact that it seems like an overall larger car (though not as large as an A6) and that the front axles have been pulled forward, which makes the car look more balanced, unlike the more nose-heavy looking B7...something I'm sure will make for a better handling car (I bet there will be less understeer compared to the B7). I also very much like the fact that the car seems to have an overall lower roof line and wider body, something that I didn't pick up too much from the many pictures I've seen, making the car look very aggressive. The B8 is going to look phenomenal lowered with 20s (18s are now stock and 19s standard with S-line). Though I couldn't sit in it or look up close, the cabin also seems more ample and both the seats and console are a huge improvement over the B7. The leather quality, which I'm sure is the same as on the A5s (in which I did sit), is of much nicer quality.
So, the biggest debate for me will be whether to buy an avant or a sedan but I'm definitely trading in the B7 for a B8 next year. I love the B6 and the B7 but to me, the B8 is a huge step up and once these cars hit the dealers, I doubt there will be many that can make a reasonable argument for the B6/B7 over the B8.
BTW, for those wondering about the exhaust tips, the Avant, which was a 2.0T Quattro comes with a dual, single-sided exhaust, while the 3.2 sedan was single dual-sided. Two other noteworthy and relevant debuts were the new Passat and the VW Routan, VW's new minivan, which is the first and only minivan I would actually be okay getting caught in. Look them up.
Oh yeah, and sorry for the lack of pics, but then again, the whole point of my post is that pics don't do the B8 any justice. [:)]
