Just to let you know as promised.....

Thanks again for coming to VAG the A4 (and thanks to Keith for lending it) on short notice. It's in the garage now, retired for now. Pretty white knuckled ride up the Sunol grade and back home, as it sounded like I was driving a WRX the whole way back. Hope it's nothing major...[confused]

oh man I remember having to drive home from the bay area on 3 cyliners..i was good until i hit the grapevine. Semi trucks where passing me!

I couldnt figure out what it was when i was up there turned out it was a 4 dollar pin that broke on the wire that goes to the coilpack

Yeah, figured it may be ignition related, but never had it this severe. I could smell fuel the whole way home. Well, gonna pull the plugs tomorrow and swap coilpacks, hopefully to isolate the issue.

BTW, Ted, how's the Z?

Hey Mike, are your power door locks broken by any chance? I have that same fault code...run time exceeded, possible leak, and my locks aren't working. I can hear the pump running in the trunk, but no air is making the locks move. Just wondering...

Good luck with the car. What happened?

The locks work fine, but the driver's exterior door handle takes two pulls to open, rather than one. I'm wondering if that's a preempt to another issue as well.[rolleyes]

As for the motor I'm almost 99% certain it's ignition related. I'm taking it into DSR within the week. It's long overdue for a tuneup, anyway. Probably going to replace and add some new parts in the process.
