Its only a $100 for one race, but Im a little hesitant due to the fact that the legacy has 250 hp stock and he is running a chip. Its an Automatic so I should be able to get a jump on him providing I shift properly.

Im running the giac 100 octane program which should put me around 265hp and 300ft lbs or torque. Im guessing that he may take me out, but its just a friendly wager amongst friends. What do you guys think of the match up?

I hope you guys are doing this at a legitimate road course.
Because illegal street racing (endangers innocent people) and going in straight lines exhibit very low skill and is basically a pissing contest on "who spent more money on their engine".

I don't know where you live, but around here you can head out to the country so You are only endangering yourselves. Where you should always race on a track because its safe and more fun, you can determine who has a faster streight line cars out in the country.

Get a Test Pipe, full exhaust with DP and the REVO stg 2 flash instead of the GIAC and then just smoke him..........

Take out your spare tire and rear seats, and run on 1/4 or 1/8 tank of gas when you race him. Practice launching.

his giac is agressive enough to handle the job. it just cant run the TP without a CEL

Im running APR Stage 2 93, AWE Full Exhaust, Euro Code Test Pipe, Carbonio CAI, APR FSI Pump, Forge DV and my car has really transformed. I think its the ultimate setup on a K03 A4. I dont know how much faster my car can get without a bigger Turbo. I have 2 plans ahead for this car and it will be done for now, AWE Intercooler and Custom Tranny Software. I have taken a ride in a Legacy GT Automatic and it felt slow compared to my car.

I don't get the fascination with dragging and the 1/4 mile, especially with our less-than-powerful cars. It's brainless. I guess NASCAR and PINKS have been successfully expanding their audience.

If you really want to test your skills, take your car to the track...a real track with twists, pins and turns. Even AutoX would be more challenging than stepping on the gas all the way and keeping the steering wheel straight.

That said, the A4 and Legacy GT are a good match.

Just don't bog the launch. He could brake boost and out-launch you. As others have recommended lighten up your car. Don't forget to remove your tool kit, head-rests, floor mats. After that, go take a high performance driving school and see what "real" racing is about. It'll make you think drag racing is uber lame. [:)]

BTW tell us how it goes. Good luck.

Why would you get a Subaru Legacy in an automatic and then go betting people?

With a simple tune the Leggy is probably around 270 hp and 300 lb-ft, but the automatic is quite a bit slower than the manual.

Just race him already, but do it for fun.

I've lost plenty of races, and I'm won races I really shouldn't have. Who really cares, it's all in good fun because we're hobbyists.

One time I raced a 300some whp turbo Supra, only the kid just bought it and didn't know how to drive it haha... I had my 225Q TT at the time, and I killed him on the launch, had him about 3/4 of the drag strip, then he passed me at the very end. Damn that would've made a good story if I won [:)]

he'll smoke you most likely. a stock legacy 2.5GT spec B was clocked 5.1 second to 60 by various magazines, not to mention one that's chipped.

Because its a sleeper. It weighs less and chipped puts down more power. My guess is if both drivers perform well, the A4 loses.

That was in a manual and did 13.7 in the 1/4, stock.

The automatic is quite a bit slower - around 15.0 stock. With a tune it probably mid to low 14s.

Should be a fun run - make the wager a pint - that way you can both celebrate over a nice beer.

Well we finally did a few runs the other night with no money involved. Just a few safe dashes to 70mph. I pulled on the Subaru 2 out of the 3 times and the other run was dead even. I absolutely destroyed him by 3-4 car lengths when he was in standard Auto mode. It was a tad closer when he went into Tip mode. I thought the Soob would put up more of a fight, but I was surprisingly pleased!
