well I am tend to drive slow after two speeding tickets the first month I got it. But on thankgiving morning, since I was spending the day by myself I took the car are real early in the morning, out to the county to a long str8 stretch I know that has a hill on oneside. Got it up to 130-140ish, it scared the pants off me, especially becuase the car felt like it was going 70. Since then haven't been of 90.
Good times, but won't do it again. It was a new car and I wanted to see what it could do, especially after driving a toyota pickup since the early 1990s

the last time I was driving on the autobahn I had my ford escort deisel (yuck) WOT and when I got in the left lane to pass, some 1 million series beamer would flash their lights at me from a mile back to make sure I got out of the way. And you know what, people didn't get all pissed off about it, they just moved over. What a concept.

It's funny you say that. Last time I was in Germany I rented a Z4 and went out driving with a friend of mine. Top down and still able to maintain 240km/h on the straights. And even at this speed I had to negotiate a 140mph lane change because a coal burning Mercedes comes roaring up behind me with an elderly couple up front and another couple in the back...They must have been late for church or something. The beamer was rock solid at speed though. Pretty nice but wouldn't have the top down next time for a number of reasons.

I strapped retrorockets to mine and peaked at 750. Made an 8 hour drive in a half hour!!! But I had the throttle down moderately at best. I'm not a troll, you can search my previous posts. I've posted up a lot of information regards to technical (mostly factual and therefore helpful) tuning- especially with concerns about suspension. I haven't received any warnings in regards to my "conduct" and if I did I would obviously cut back on my sarcasm. This is a public forum- if you say something that people don't like chances are they will make it known (except in certain Communist countries where public forums have been banned by IP address anyways)

If the OP wants to go fast on the autobahn- it's of his own concern. It doesn't change the fact that speeding is dangerous- as it increases the number of risks to himself and the people around him. Not everyone is a Schumacher and the less people try to imitate him on public roads, the better. The easiest solution to potential problems is reduce the risk of it happening, so I'm just doing my part to benefit the community in general. You may not like the methods in which I do it but it's psychologically effective. If you wish to debate about my ethics then PM me about it, I'll be more than happy to hear you out (as well as not filling up a thread with pointless clutter).

The Autobahn is just a dream to drive on. Like it's been said you can be cruising at 120mph and have the most badass cars just fly past you !

More accidents in Los Angeles last year than the past decade on the Autobahn. Facts speak for themselves. Competent drivers behind capable cars with a hightened sense of the road will always prevail over the 55mph soccer mom in an SUV on her cell phone doing a triple lane change because she didn't realize she's about to miss her exit. I'll chalk this one up to common sense.

I've been like 140ish in the audi and 187mph in the Supra. Took a LS400 up to 147mph once but it didn't even come close to the ease and controlability of newer more superior cars like these. The improvement in technology between a 1992 luxury car and a 95 sports car or 03 semi sport is quite simply amazing.

Xsess - The A4 is limited in America at ~135 MPH, but they say that if you order the car with the performance tires the car will be limited to ~155 MPH. I ordered it with high-performance tires and on the Autobahn all I could get it to was ~135 MPH no matter how hard I tried. In Europe it is probably limited to ~155 MPH regardless.

INTEGRATION - You say your methods are psychologically effective. Do you have a psychology degree? I doubt it. If you did, you may realize that your methods are not psychologically effective.

element256 is right. In England they did a fairly recent study that showed there are very few accidents at high speeds. They did this study due to the fact that the Police were cracking down very hard on speeders, and the question was asked "Why?" The reason is money. One of the biggest money makers is speeding tickets. In the US we have been "blessed" with a system that allows a 16 year old to drive around by themselves and do whatever they want. Many people that get licenses should probably never have them, but not because they speed. One of the biggest causes of accidents is inattentive driving. Stupid people don't help either. Over here in Europe, they not only have to go through the class like in America, but they also have to take a multi-day hands-on class that teaches them all sorts of useful driving techniques and accident avoidance. They also have to have more driving time than America before they can get their license. Europe also has strict rules about left lane driving and a mindset of attentiveness and left lane courtesy. Lastly, if WW2 hadn't happened then we may have higher speed limits since they weren't lowered due to accidents. It's too late now though. Too many inexperienced, vigilantee, inattentive, and stupid drivers on the road.

It may be different in the US, like barkered427 says. I have driven a BMW M5 on a closed road at top speed, and it also stopped at 250.. The S4, and RS4 are the same way.
You can remove the speed limiter, but as standard they all stop at 250. Even the Mercedes SL 65 AMG is as standard limited to 155 mph.

As for the discussion regarding driving fast I agree that when on a standard road with speed limitations and lots of slow moving traffic, driving at 155 mph is not something that is safe. However I guess that most of you guys have never been to Germany and seen the Autobahns there. They are wide, straight and long.... so when in a good car it is not illegal or unsafe to test your top speed.

My B5 chipped will go from 80-110 in several seconds. I've been in several worked and bone stock mid 90's civics and they go 80-110 in several seconds. They might of had some sorta boost limiter or turned down the boost on the loaner.[drive][drive] After 120 my cars acceleration tapers off greatly due to the incredible wind resistance and the fact on our tiny 1.8s with even tinier turbos starts falling flat on its face and boost starts tapering off. Even a K04 B5 isn't gonna be accelerating as hard after 130 as a turbo that spikes at the same boost producing, the same WHP, but at a higher RPM and holds to Redline. The 2.0's are nice because they can hold power for longer with their slightly greater displacement and turbo.

I tried to take a pic but a little nervous. I have to admit that it was way smooth and didnt feel like i was going close to what i was doing. In my civic it is so loud, smooth as well but cant touch the Audi!

Guys I have lived 19 out of 36 years here in Germany. In large cities for about 15 miles outside of it there is traffic. Now understand that speed is about 85MPH. Germany is one of the remaining countries in Europe without a speed limit's. It has a RECOMMENDED limit of 130KPH Now the picture of the sign with a circle and the diagonal lines in it means, use weather and road conditions to determine your safe maximum speed. But in general you can haul balls here. Understand that the vehicle inspection is harsh here, they actually maintain the road, thus the 19% tax in Germany on everything! You can not get drive until you are 18. you get the point. I drive alot over 140mph I have gone 287 on GPS but that is in the red on RPM's here is a pic with 2 people ,tank full of gas from the other day

lol yeh 287KPH, sorry for that.But you can see at 160 MPH I am not in the red yet. Yeh it was past 270 KPH. I have noticed that the speedo is off a bit after 80 or 90 MPH. the picture shows 160MPH but I was off of GPS 154 mph. but whatever I know there are a ton of people here with awesome rides and been much faster than me. just adding to the madness.
