Just average price for about 40k miles. Wondering.
No other major mods.

Generally you have to find a buyer that wants such and will pay for it. Your normal buyer will want nothing to do with a modded car. So with that said, add about 2-4k to your blue book value and go from there.

It will take a little while to sell but it can be done. Just focus on the correct market like here and Audiworld or other enthusiast web sites. The whole process will take a bit of time so if you need quick cash trying to sell a modded car for a decent price is not the avenue to go.
I bought my k04'ed car from a guy on AW and it was great. I know he was an enthusiast so he took great care of the car and he knows I'm also an enthusiast so I'll continue to take great care of the car.
The way to go is to start 4-5k over blue book to see if you can get a buyer and then slowly lower the price. This will take a good bit of time though, the guy I bought my car from had been advertising for about 2 months.

Well to be honest, I want to buy one myself...
I'm looking to see if it's plausible so I can start setting money aside.

Well look at the blue book price and go about $4-5k more than that.
The really hard part is finding one that you like.

with 40k miles I would say around 29k would be a decent price to get.

Well how reliable are the stock turbos? Some people blow them at like 5k miles I've heard I can't risk that kind of garbage....I wouldnt be able to afford it. All I know is I want a KO4'd S4 because it's 1.) redic fast, and 2.) somewhat reliable.

It is actually pretty reliable. You'll have little problems like with any german car really but you don't have to worry about the turbos going which is the biggest maintenance headache. You could go for a preowned S4 but any mods you do will get you in hot water with AoA.
Your stock turbos will blow at some time if you plan to keep the car for any significant length of time.
Try to get a K04'd S4 done by a good reliable shop with a name behind it and you'll be all set.

Yeah but that costs like 6-8 grand in labor I heard. What if I kept it stock or chipped til they blew, put it back to stock, and then asked them to do ko4s and I pay for the turbos? Or just buy the turbos and take them there when they blow and be like "here."
Or...
How hard is it to lift the engine yourself? If you've done an BMW swap, 2.5l to M3 swap, you think you could handle the Ko4 change?

Not true about stock turbos blowing. i have 140,000+ miles on mine, yes its chipped w/ down pipes. no turbo timer, i never warm up and never cool down....i only change the oil when i get around to it.....NOTHING has ever blown or broke.....very very dependable car.

You just are very very lucky with the car and probably one of the %.1 of S4 owners in this situation.
I certainly wouldn't bet on being able to do this.
There are people at either end of the spectrum, some running 140k miles chipped on stock turbos and some going through two sets in 10k miles with stock cars. Most are probably in the middle.

If is car is among the 2001.5 or 2002's its much more likely to have long lasting turbos.
Installing the new turbos isn't quite as expensive as mentioned above. I can't see why anyone would need to charge more than 20 hours to complete the installation. That's about $1600 + parts.
Installation prices probably stay the same if you're adding intercoolers, etc as well - so long as you get ones that fit right in. If you want FMIC or maye some something uniqe while it's all apart- then there may be more time to deal with making everything fit.
Given the option, I'd probably order the parts and install it myself. That said, I don't suggest this for a first time project.
Finally, Audi doesn't exactly have the best reputation in the reliabilty department - but then, there are reasons to get an Audi S4 over the ever popular Honda civic.

I was recently entertaining offers on my car and had a few in the $36-38K range. My car is a full Stage III + car and in excellent condition. 2001.5 w/ 62K miles.
In order to sell the car you have to have someone who knows a little about it and realizes what they are buying. For instance if you bought a stock 996 turbo used for +$100K and then got your ass handed to you by a modified S4 what would that S4 be worth? You catch my drift?
It is not so much what the blue book says but rather what it is worth to the person buying the car.....IMO.
I was looking at a C4S for awhile but, backed off......I am no longer entertaining selling my car......

If that was recent that would be a great sell for you. I've seen full stage 3s going for 26K

I bought my stage 3- S4 with 70k miles on it for $24.5k. That was a great deal because the seller was trying to get rid of the car quickly for a down payment on a house.
Mods will never pay off and I'd expect a modded car to go for about half the price of the mods over blue book at best.

with that amount of mileage i would say that is a fair price. 36-38k for a heavily modded car with 62k miles is a little much. 24-27 is what i have seen them go for, they generally start real high and then drop real fast when no interest is generated.

I agree that it might have been more than some of you would have paid. However, I say again it is what it would be worth to the purchaser. After discussions with several interested parties the aformentioned amount was the result.
I think some people who sell their modded cars are usually selling they in a hurry....not a good idea if you want the most for your mod dollar. Not to mention the fact the some modded cars have been driven like there was no tomorrow and the new owner will inherit the potential mistreatment by the previous owner.
Items were included withmy price discussion:
- Laptop with custom tuning program and VAG-COM
- Current tuning at +450whp on 92 octane & +500whp on race gas.
- 2 - sets of wheels (MAYAS (19's) and Superlegerras (17's))
- Stasis Morotsports
- K16/K04 ZC - ported/ceramic coated Turbo's
There are so many mods on the car it would be easier to tell you what is doesn't have. I would venture to say the only considerable modification worthy of mentioning that is not on the car is the RS4 body conversion.
Not that it matters, becuase it is not being entertained as an item for sale, but, I wanted to put the pricing in perspective.

no kidding. where have you found some Stg3 S4s to look for, and how was the condition of the car?

I found it on Audi World. Well actually it sort of found me. The buyer needed to sell the car and saw that I had totaled mine and wanted another so I had money and was in the market for a new car. He sent me an email about the car, I fell in love with it and bought it a bit later.
The car was in absolute excellent condition, you could count the number of paint chips on one hand. The interior alcantara was a little worn but nothing a razor couldn't fix.
I found some other stage 3's on Audi World in the classified section, though the one I bought was the only stage 3 within 4 hours of me.
